During his daily media briefing at Islamabad on December 26, 2001, Kenton Keith, of the US Embassy there, distributed a chart showing the present (according to the US) hierarchy (brains trust) of the Al Qaeda organisation with bin Laden at the top. - snip - six were shown as 'killed in action' (KIA) and two under arrest. Those shown as killed were Osama's deputy Muhammad Atef, his aides Muhammad Salah, Assadullah and Tariq Anwar Fathy, the organisation's operational coordinator Abu Saleh al-Yemeni and a trainer, Abu Ubaida.

Ameer Hussain Abdullah Al-Misri, an Egyptian national,

An official requesting anonymity said: "A man has been identified as Ameer Hussain Abdullah Al-Misri, but his name can be different from what is known now. He may be among those most wanted Al Qaeda men wanted by the US government."

He said that though the name of the suspect did not match the one included in the most wanted list, the investigators were trying hard to establish his real identity before finalizing their opinion. "If he is among the most wanted, it would be a great achievement for us," the official said. He said that the agents of the Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI) were likely to join the local investigators sometime on Tuesday.

KARACHI, Jan 20: Seven suspected members of Al Qaeda, picked up on Sunday, were shifted to Islamabad early on Tuesday morning, intelligence sources said.

They said that the suspects were flown to the capital by a special aircraft. One of them, identified as Ameer Hussain Abdullah Al-Misri, was likely to be handed to the US authorities in a day or two, they added.

The sources said that Al-Misri told the local investigators that he was in contact with Ahmed Omar Saeed Shaikh, who had been awarded death penalty for killing American journalist Daniel Pearl.

They said that Al-Misri had obtained militant training in Afghanistan and also learnt flying. He was a graduate and had a command over English and Persian languages besides Arabic. He left Afghanistan, as the Taliban regime was toppled. He entered Pakistan through Chaman border alongwith his Afghan friends. Later, he shifted to Karachi, the sources claimed.
