FOR WHATEVER PURPOSES THIS THREAD WAS STARTED, IT EVOLVED INTO A VERY POTENT FORCE FOR THOSE INVOLVED IN IT AND A VERY POWERFUL POTENTIAL RESOURCE FOR VAST NUMBERS OF OTHERS.

IMHO, that's nothing to be sneesed nor sneered at.

Ah, well, beauty and significance . . . as well . . . evidently as kosherness and newsworthyness seem to be as much in the eye of the beholder as other things. Their loss, personally. Sadly.

Now, this thread is a favored institution, tradition, living room, refuge, alert center, zomfort zone (I started to correct my spelling to comfort zone but hey--this thread is special so how about a special word for it?). . . YEA for this thread.

Not sure what to add. I for one hope it lasts until Jesus comes.

I suppose we could pray for the . . . what . . . parochial short sightedness that seems to influence thread allocation sometimes a bit much?

why the heck is everybody (some) complaing? What is wrong with being moved to chat? The other thread was to big, it was annoying other freepers because it was always there. Some people would try to read it and some wouldn't. It's not a big deal.

So,

are we continuing the old thread on the old thread or on this one?

Or is the answer:

Yes!

The SM said above that he probably could have given some heads up. But frankly, if that's the worst faux pas we make in a day, I'll take it.

Like it or not, there were fewer occasions where we needed to pull posts from that thread. Besides, it wasn't until very recently that we knew that when we were moderating these threads it was causing systemwide slowdowns.

Have a good one, it's time for me to hit the sack.

Gen. Franks: WMD Could End the Constitution...

The Constitution is pretty much gone anyway.
I'm beginning to seriously doubt this whole business.

Frankly, I can't believe that if the AQ gang is real, they didn't manage an attempt on the State of the Union. What more could they want, than everybody in one cozy spot?

I've always thought that our external enemies would never prosper without help from within. We, here on FR, saw that help revealed during the Clinton years, when the supposedly staunch republican, Ken Starr, was unable to push the treason angle because he was as filthy with Chinese cash as everybody else in Washington.

The Senate colluded in the Clinton's treason as well.
The current administration has continued the coverup and destruction of the evidence.

We may be hit and hit hard by the Jihadis, but our own government will be at least partly responsible, if not more so.

SANAA, Yemen — The Yemeni wing of al-Qaida, in a statement published yesterday on an Islamic Web site, vowed to attack the United States to avenge the 2002 killing of its leader by a CIA drone aircraft.

The statement, which could not be authenticated, said Osama bin Laden's network had over the past year prepared a "devastating and crushing blow in the United States that will happen soon" in retaliation for the death of Ali al-Harthi, who was killed by a missile the pilotless CIA aircraft fired at his car in eastern Yemen.

'Computer bomb' intercepted en route to Tel Aviv
Jerusalem Post ^ | Jan. 26, 2004 | Margot Dudkevich

Hidden inside a computer screen, explosives that were to be used for a suicide bomb attack in Tel Aviv were retrieved by Israeli security forces operating along the Green Line, near the Israeli settlement of Elkana.

Acting on intelligence information received from a Palestinian terrorist captured last week in Nablus, Israeli security forces operating near Kafr A-Zawiya on Sunday retrieved the bag rigged with explosives, hidden inside a computer screen.

Ahmed Ibrahim Ashker,18, a Tanzim fugitive arrested by security forces on January 21, was to have perpetrated the attack which was planned by head of the Fatah Tanzim in the Balata refugee camp, near Nablus, Hisham Abu Hamdan, 22.

At least one weapon of mass destruction - a sodium cyanide bomb capable of delivering a deadly gas cloud
Okay, now I have to interject something. JP, re: your mention of cloud, and Pro-bush, your mention of "Clouds Enterprise" (and Clouds Enterprise was mentioned earlier many posts back by someone).

Found that the term clouds in islam refers to one of the 4 ancient elements, which we in the West called Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. In islam, "clouds" is the term for "air".

I don't know if it means anything, or even what it could mean, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

This link has a little explanation of clouds and the quran.

SOUNDS LIKE a

FUNCTIONAL house keeping problem, evidently.

Software but sort of a mechanical software problem in that protecting the news section from such a popular, rapidly growing huge thread requires it to be in chat for lack of a better place to put it, evidently.

Guessing.

I have never observed John Robinson nor Jim nor any of their tireless unpaid assistants to do arbitrary things for squirrelly reasons.

I'm sure it was the wisest way they knew to handle a problem if the facts are remotely close to as presented. And I believe them to be straightforward, as stated.

How you go about detecting pc invasions depends upon your nerd capabilities and level of paranoia? I'm constantly looking for changes. I addition to my firewall, I run Spybot, Adaware, JV16 Power Tools (for registry changes), RB Killer, and Spyware Blaster. Because I'm always monitoring my system, I have a greater chance of picking things up more often than not because things don't look right.

Re: CN&V2 bbs

Please do not ask me where I got this information, but I can vouch for its truthfulness. I was also subjected to massive attacks on my home PC as a result of being on that site. (One of the reasons for my "testiness" of late.) We are steping on some Rats tails and they are squealing, biting back, and then some as a result.

Here is what I know from a colleague in email yesterday and from another individual over the phone Saturday evening:

1) Do NOT open ANY message or post to that bbs.

2) They utilize Javascript and/or cookies that recognizes IP's.

If you want to maintain your system as it is stay away from that place! Just plain stay away!

I believe some of the prepetrators of this activity on CN&V2 are also present on Free Republic as well as the EOM and Daleel Yahoo Group. Yahoo email accounts were shut down, hacked and hijacked by this same and related activity. If moderators want this information please contact me privately. There is much more to this.

Yeah, me! I had major problems after going there. I just opened the page and a huge pop up window came up. I clicked it off and my McAfee came up and said I had a virus. I got rid of the thing as it was really only a trojan but a pain in the patooti no less! I deleted all the cookies from there, bookmarks and my cache of temporary files and don't have a problem. I won't be going back, it was turning into a smutty board anyway.

Sure are a few uptight folks here. I mean, if you aren't interested in a thread, move on. Very simple concept, really. Kinda humorous, in a sad sort of way, that they allow themselves to get so tweaked over one thread out of how many hundreds, per day! Must be some sort of control-freak mentality.

I'm so scientist and I don't even own a cellphone. This is how I figure it. A bomb encased in lead could not be detonated by cellphone or radio unless the detonation receiver was on the outside of the lead box, right? Any radiation detection device would not pick up on the receiver as it would not be emitting radiation.

Thats an interesting question Quix.

I was just getting ready to hit the rack when you posed it. Woke me straight up.

My humble opinion is that Americans who survived would be so full of fire and anger that they would burn a Grant like swath clear through the Middle East until the mullahs howled.

Now FBI says guard shot himself??????????????????

Did plant security guard make up story about shooting?

Security guard Robert House tells Eyewitness News the FBI is essentially accusing him of lying after he was shot.
By Deborah Wrigley
ABC13 Eyewitness News
(1/26/04 - FREEPORT, TX) — Law enforcement officers have ruled out terrorism as a motive in the shooting of a guard at a Freeport chemical plant over the weekend. Monday, that security guard talked from his hospital.

The indisputable fact in the story is that security guard Robert House was shot late Friday night. He says the bullet came from a man who was taking pictures of a chemical plant. Now House says the FBI is accusing him of fabricating the entire incident.

The shooting happened not far from the Port of Freeport on a gravel road near the BASF Chemical plant. A man was reportedly sitting in a truck without license plates. Contract security guard Robert House approached him.

"I radioed to my dispatch to say the gentleman was taking pictures of the lights," recalled House.

Then House says he saw a gun aimed by a man he describes as having a foreign accent.

He said, "Trying to tell him, 'No, no! Don't shoot me' when he shot me."

It was a shoulder wound. While recovering at a Lake Jackson hospital House says he spoke with an FBI agent and agreed to a polygraph test.

But then House claims the agent told him "the test was telling him that I shot myself. And I told him no, I didn't. And he said he could it in my eyes, that I was crying out for some type of help."

This weekend, the FBI's Houston spokesman Bob Doguim said, "We've got more and more reason not to believe this is terrorist related or any terrorist concerns."

As for Robert House's allegations, on Monday the same spokesman told Eyewitness News, "We already said what we had to say. We don't have the luxury of playing this out in public."

So now Robert House has a lawyer -- and he says he also has a fear.

"Actually scared whoever this person was might come back, and on top of that I have the FBI telling me I shot myself," said House.

House has referred all specific questions to his attorney. However, as of air time for this story, the attorney has yet to return our calls.

Coast Guard steps up security at Houston Ship Channel

The Coast Guard has starting giving random escorts to ships carrying hazardous chemicals into the Houston Ship Channel.

It's all part of a security precaution to prevent someone from taking control of one of the ships.

The tankers move past several large chemical plants and refineries.

Experts say any disruption in production could make the price of gas spike severely.

Officials say during the recent orange level security alert, all vessels bearing hazardous chemical were escorted.
