We just bought our first gun. I never thought we would do that in a million years, but the world has changed and we still have the right to bear arms (quick before it ends). Besides looters there are crackheads and meth freaks out there who can defend themselves by saying they were under the influence of drugs. I long for the good old days when the bad guys actually got punished and there was justice. We will be prepared for all eventualities we can think of.

It seems plausible from the description of the software glitch . . .

that the threads I post involving Christianity even though about Bin Laden, AlQaeda etc. . . .

given that they tend to invariably get attacked by very strident folk probably given to screaming by pushing the abuse button--

the software thing may be ANOTHER reason to shuffle them off to chat????

I have wondered about this myself. I think if something big does occur, even if the electricity is still on FR may be hard to access. Last time there were problems someone suggested a Yahoo group as an alternative. If there is no electricity then I don't know. Nextel has those cross country two way radios.

We just about have someone from each state on this thread so we should be able to figure something out, but time may be running short.

God has declared that the evil people and other evil forces will be wiped from the face of the planet.

I long for that day but hasten and ask for as much delay as possible to help facilitate some moving from one doomed group to the Eternal Life group.

>>Get your ham radio license. Five watts output from a radio and a simple antenna can provide reliable communications under most circumstances.

Major bump to that. I'm going to look into this myself.

I need to clarify more. You will need to get a General class license in order to use the HF (shortwave) bands, which is necessary for long distance communications. The General class license is the mid-level license and requires that you be able to copy morse code at 5 words per minute (pretty easy to learn with a few weeks of practice). Besides, using morse code is one of the most efficient modes of radio communications. Please check out the American Radio Relay League for more info on becoming a ham.

Have long felt strong about this issue.

But too few feel it important enough to do something about it.

I think my old Navy Radioman speed on Morse was 18-23 w send and 20 or 30 something receive.

I typed instantly which old salts disdained because they were writing down 30 words or so behind what they were listening to. I could never get into THAT miracle!

Glad I typed 80nwpm/75 perfect on teletype.

I'm just catching up on this thread, and I'm sure somebody has already noticed this, but aren't cockpit doors shut and secured BEFORE takeoff? Sounds like someone pulling a fast one. Also, whenever there is turbulence, the pilot makes an announcement to stow personal items. Maybe that would explain loss of communication.

Thank you for your post, Quix, but I have no idea why this thread is in chat. All I can say is that I personally requested one of my own threads to be moved to the Smokey Backroom because the tone of the thread turned hostile and thus it was no longer appropriate for a general audience.

I agree. It is so frustrating for someone to get a light sentence due to being crazed on drugs, or the insanity defense. Of course they are nuts. They wouldn't do those sorts of crimes in the first place if they were sane. Sorry, insanity or drugged is no excuse in my book.

And yes, if we lose the second amendment, we have lost it all. Good for you on your recent purchase. I bet you will enjoy it. It's lots of fun (really!).

Are You Ready? We live in a different world than we did before September 11, 2001. We are more aware of our vulnerabilities, more appreciative of our freedoms, and more understanding that we have a personal responsibility for the safety of our families, our neighbors and our nation. - But we also know that we can take action now to help protect our families, help reduce the impact an emergency has on our lives, and help deal with the chaos if an incident does occur.
