January 27, 2004 -- EXETER, N.H. - Wise-cracking funnyman Al Franken yesterday body-slammed a demonstrator to the ground after the man tried to shout down Gov. Howard Dean. The tussle left Franken's trademark thick-rim glasses broken, but he said he was not injured.

Failed celebrities have been entering fights for money against other B and C level celebrities.

In this case, this was assault. Since he was a trained wrestler, could be with a deadly weapon.

"Then you should expect to be in court defending yourself and your bank account."

Since, I personally own no property. I'm not too concerned about the civil courts. And I'll take my chances with the police and the criminal court. You have been trained well to be a non-combatant. Going through life cowering like a coward is not for me. Good luck with that flinchy.

The "Gangs of New York" was a movie. You actually think Hollywood crapola is a legitimate source of information. All I know is that many people (usually from a dissenting minority) mouth off in society because they have no fear of the majority.

I've read a bit about the point in time in America that the movie somewhat depicted. As I said in my post "It will give you a feel for what some "American" men were like in that day." I didn't say I thought it was 100% accurate. Men used to duel in America too. It's been depicted in Hollywood movies. Maybe not 100% accurately. Does that mean it never happened?

You said "You actually think Hollywood crapola is a legitimate source of information". Do you have a habit of insulting people or do you have the need to be insulting after "X" number of posts like a small number of people here seem to have to? And I just happened to be in front of you when the wheel stopped spinning and it was time to be rude again?

I only suggested the movie because I was being nice to you. Won't make that mistake again....

Franken said he's not backing Dean but merely wanted to protect the right of people to speak freely.

This is a classic example of why liberals should not be entrusted with the keeping of our Constitution. He assaults a heckler in the name of free speech?

The dittoheads are gonna chew up this goomba on the radio and spit him out. And it will be a delight to hear.

...start mouthing off against what the majority of people believe in at these events, you should expect a crack in the mouth.

Agree with that. Question remains whether any violence against the "mouthing offer" is justified, other than that of police or others appointed to keep order by removing disrupters. Don't think that included big Al.

I think it is. I personally can't stand Al Franken. But, I would let him walk, hell I'll even buy him a drink.

"Almost without exception, social scientists are telling us that Americans are more violent than in the past. They cite statistics. Yet anyone who observe the goings on in the cities with his own eyes knows that it is not so. The American man in the street is now infinitely less pugnacious, less ready to take offense and hit back, than in the past. We used to fight in the streets, in saloons and on the job. You had to watch what you said lest you have your teeth knocked in. But just now the majority of Americans are afraid to open their mouths. They will not get into a fight no matter what you call them or do to them. They are afraid to get angry.

I maintain that it is this unprecedented meekness of the majority that is responsible for the phenomenal increase of violence. Social order is the by-product of an equilibrium between a vigorous majority and violent minorities. There is no reason to believe that the nature of the violent minorities is now greatly different from what it was in the past. What has changed is the will and the ability of the majority to react. I do not think it possible to reform the violent minorities by passing more laws, hiring more policeman or reforming the courts. We can make headway only by activating the majority."

"Mr. Franken's conduct was disorderly, but the heckler doesn't have a right to filibuster either."

I'm sorry, correct me if I'm wrong but i didn't think that "heckling" had been omitted from Freedom Of Speech.

As far as I can tell dissenting views showing up at the opponents rally or stum speech has been going on as long as there's been politics. It's part of the process.

Can you imagine if this had been a Bush rally and someone like Sean hannity had tackled a heckler? Or Dennis Miller had punched someone in the mouth for speaking up against the Persident at a rally? The media would be all OVER this! But infortuneately, like the story of Hillary's Secret Service detail ruffing up some people who disagreed with her at an event she was at. This will get no play in the media farther than what it has already.

It's going to be fun and easy radio-freeping Franken over the edge to total mental breakdown.

We freepers have the liberal moron rants down pat, we can imitate 'rats in our sleep. Getting past his call screeners is going to be a snap, then turning on him or making liberals sound like the fools they are is going to be a lot of fun.

For example: a "proud gay man" calls to support gay marriage, and then goes on to expound on his preference for Boy Scouts, and the unfairness of not being allowed to be an openly gay Scoutmaster.

Or a "pro choice" caller who graphically supports partial birth abortion in terms that would make Doctor Mengele proud. And so on.

It's going to be almost too easy driving Franken mad. (He's just about there already.)
