Kerry left Vietnam early after getting three dubious wounds. Does anyone know the fate of the guy who took his place?

He voted for the war, but insisted there would be no dead bodies.

Elect this man for what!?

He got some medals in Vietnam. How many thousands did likewise? We can hardly elect them all president! The criterion for a president is the capacity for wise high-level leadership.

John Kerry's distinction is in his leadership after he returned from Vietnam--his antimilitary activism and his career in polics, now in his twentieth year in the Senate. What has that leadership meant to the country? It meant more abuse for American POWs in Vietnam, and ultimately it meant the triumph of Communism in Cambodia, Laos, and South Vietnam. And that meant killing fields in Cambodia, and reeducation camps in Vietnam--and how many thousands or tens of thousands of desperate people set out to sea in small boats and no real chance of sanctuary?

John Kerry didn't accomplish all that single-handed, of course, but that is the direction in which he led us.

After Vietnam there finally came a turning of the wheel, and the election of Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan's leadership got the country going again, whipped inflation, ended the energy crisis, and transcended Communism--and he did it all via programs and policies which he instituted over the opposition of John Kerry. History shows that following John Kerry's leadership is a fool's errand.

Why did he succeed in leading so many? Because of the folly of Lyndon Johnson's wartime leadership, and the defeatism which that engendered in American journalism. Under Johnson's maladministration "objective" journalism became committed to the "Vietnam Syndrome" template of American military futility--and journalism "objectively" adheres to that same defeatist template several blitzkrieg victories later.

If John Kerry is the nominee Vietnam Syndrome--and the Walter Cronkites past and present who continue to peddle it to America--will be the real issue.

Excellent post - every bit of it!

This stands out . .

"And that meant killing fields in Cambodia, and reeducation camps in Vietnam--and how many thousands or tens of thousands of desperate people set out to sea in small boats and no real chance of sanctuary?"

I can't remember the name of the Vietnamese man who survived them, but there was a movie out in the early 1980's about the "Killing Fields".

It was genocide every bit as potent as Stalin's or Hitler's.

John F***ing Kerry for president - of South Vietnam!
