That ear string must have been four years' old at least and must have been very ripe. Is there a problem with strings of ears taken from Viet Cong or NVA? As I understand it the crack White Tiger Division of the Army of the Republic of Korea, took and wore such ear strings to prove their kills in case the ROK soldier was killed so that his fellow soldiers and family would know he had done well.

Elk...

Any time a person stakes out the moral high ground as his domain, the rest of us should give his remarks their just reward. This gentleman made his statement, loud and clear, and now he has to live with it.

If you will not support: Your country, the military, the leadership of the military, military policy and efforts to expunge communism from Vietnam then and Saddamism from Iraq now, you need your silly graphic appended to your eyeballs and, in any event, you leave us to wonder what on earth you are doing at a conservative website. Troll, be gone!

He founded Viet Nam Veterans Against the War to lie about our country, its military and better men than himself and to solicit others to lie with him in the "Winter Soldier" fiasco.

This is inaccurate; Kerry was not a founder of the VVAW.

The VVAW was founded by a guy named Jan Barry Crumb, who later dropped the "Crumb" part. See the current VVAW web site (which is also linked from the front page of WinterSoldier.com) for details. Note that the VVAW of Kerry's day included not only the modern VVAW, but what became the group "Vietnam Veteran Against the War Anti-Imperialist" (VVAWAI).

Those folks are seriously disturbed.

This is from the book "Stolen Valor" by B.G. Burkett:

One of them was John Kerry, Vietnam Navy veteran and aspiring politician who had been among those who organized the protest. Kerry flung a handful of medals -- he had received the Silver Star, a Bronze Star Medal, and three Purple Hearts -- over the fence. Kerry spoke later that week before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, putting a face on the antiwar movement far different from the one seen before -- the scruffy hippie or wild-eyed activist. Kerry represented the All-American boy, mentally twisted by being asked to do terrible things, then abandoned by his government.

From start to finish, the public took Dewey Canyon III at face value, not understanding that they were watching brilliant political theater. Kerry, a Kennedy protege with white-hot political aspirations, ascended center stage as both a war hero and as an antiwar hero throwing away his combat decorations. His speech, apparently off the cuff, was eloquent, impassioned.

This is posted on the website WinterSoldier.com

"during the Vietnam era that atrocities were routinely committed by America's military."

The Senate Investigations brought about by "The Winter Soldier Tribunals" failed to substantiate the claims made by Kerry and the others involved. The site has the information in great detail or links to further sites for research.

If you're concerned about the Vietnam Veteran and how he was portrayed after the war this site is vital to a more complete view than the one given out by the media - during the 1960-70's. The image of the Vietnam Veteran as portrayed by Hollywood, and the mainstream media was hugely influenced by the "Winter Soldier" tribunals. It was an inaccurate impression.

Regards,

TS

Thank you.

It makes a big difference. Our opponents will seize on any minor mistake to discredit what we're doing -- the way they're using the fake Kerry/Fonda photo to discredit any claim that they worked together on behalf of North Vietnam. If anyone finds factual errors on the site, please let us know.

"The Winter Soldier Investigation was organized by an array of celebrity leftist activists, including Jane Fonda, Dick Gregory, and Donald Sutherland. Musicians Graham Nash, David Crosby and Phil Ochs gave benefit concerts before and during the hearings, but the primary source of funding was Jane Fonda, who had already made multiple visits to Hanoi and was actively working in support of the North Vietnamese regime."

This is not true. Fonda had not gone to Vietnam by this time. This and some of the other claims on that page are not accurate.

It doesn't look like a lot of research has gone into that page. You might want to read some of the books available on the subject, such as those I have cut and pasted excerpts and photos from:

Winter Soldiers, by Richard Stacewicz
Home To War, by Gerald Nicosia
