"If more parents acted as this father did our children would not be leaving high school unable to read ad write."

LOL, funny sentence to have a typo in ... yeah, I know what you meant to say, and agree.

Does he expect to gain her respect by humiliating her in front of classmates?

This had to do with punishing the child, not gaining the father's respect.

I believe in spanking but I think a high schooler is past the age of effectiveness for spanking. Doing it in front of her classmates makes her Dad an idiot and a jerk. You are supposed to protect your daughters, not publicly humiliate them. Good job "Dad".

That could have been a scene from my parochial grade school. The nuns had no problem turning a kid over their knee for a few whacks - in front of everybody.

That said, I think it would have been better for Dad to take the kid out into the hall or something to administer punishment. She'd still be suitably embarrassed.

Yeah, I know what you mean. He should have knocked the principal's teeth out while he was there. /sarcasm

Look. Nobody knows what she did. I do know what he did. If the problem came up in school, I think it is up to the school to deal with it. He can punish her however he chooses at home. Like I said earlier, maybe her behavior stems from his.
I once saw a grammar school classmate punched in the nose by her father in front of the teacher and entire class. Her only transgression was having less than stellar grades. School authorities ignored what happened. She bled all over herself. Months later, she came to school with a black and blue face and swollen eye. I learned she was beaten regularly. She later died of her similar injuries. Acting out with spankings to me is just a sign of some other problems which need attention.

No. He expects to change her classroom behavior.

He should also expect her to move as far away from him as possible when she reaches legal age.

He should seek counseling. For himself and his doubtlessly walking-wounded family.

No counseling is needed. And you don't know anything about the family's situation other than the fact that the father once spanked his daughter at school.

Yep, wouldn't want any humility being taught to a high school age miscreant.

She's much too old for that.

There are a lot of folks on this thread that agree with this and about as many that don't.

IMO important point most are missing, unless this kid is physically harmed (abused) then whatever he did do his daughter is none of your freaking business whatsoever.

His kid, his rules, everyone else butt the hell out. Obvious exceptions to abusive situations, which this one isn't and please no nannies need to reply to me that it was.

A little more public embarrassment of miscreants, and we wouldn't have as much trouble as we do. Remember when sin was something to be embarrassed about?

You're right. What we need to do is to herd all the sinners into the middle of the football field and throw stones at them while hundreds of their peers watch from the bleechers. BTW, what "sin" did the young lady commit? BTW also, if spanking is so effective, then why did the young lady cause a problem in the first place and why was daddy dearest at the school to attend to a situation with another child. Seems to me that the spanking stuff isn't working except perhaps to give daddy dearest a bit of excitement.

The father is a clod with no sense.

Discipline should take place by the parents, AT HOME.

This idiot has just handed more ammo to the bed-wetting libs and the litigation types.

Yeah, I'm glad that kids get less rebellious and difficult in their teenage years so a firm word is all that is needed.

Unlike when they're, you know, 6 or so.

He expects to change her classroom behavior.

Well, if that is the goal, why not just cut out her tongue?

Force now does not correct past negligence.

So we're not allowed to express opinions? Thanks for clearing that up for us...

"His kid, his rules, everyone else butt the hell out"

Thats pretty funny. This is a forum where people post articles and others comment on them. If people butted out we would have blank pages.

He is a steaming pile, not for discipline but for venue.
