Hearts and Minds video or 16mm color film 1975 90 mins* Academy Award winning documentary on the Vietnam War and the roots of the war in the American consciousness and American institutions. Best film available on the true nature of the war, its background, its conduct and its impact on the lives of Vietnamese and Americans. Interviews with Dan Ellsberg, General Westmoreland, Walt Rostow and others sharpen the debate. Excellent section on the role racism played in the U.S. conduct of the war. Best educational tool available to counter present-day attempts to rewrite the history of the war. It also helps correct the gross distortions of the war portrayed in films like "The Deerhunter" and "Apocalypse Now." This film may not be televised, shown commercially, shown for profit, shown to audiences where there is an admission Donation, used for fundraising or advertised in public media of any nature whatsoever without specific written permission from the film distributor. Donation A

Berkeley in the 60's video 1990 117 mins. An amazing record of the issues, immediacy and passion of a time when young people dared to hope and dream. 1980's interviews with eloquent participants in the movement are overlaid on dramatic footage of events. Excellent production quality. Age level: senior high school to adult Donation A

Where War Has Passed: The Legacy of Chemical Warfare in Vietnam video 1999 30 mins. Produced by Vietnamese film makers for an English-speaking audience on the ongoing human consequences of the war for the Vietnamese. We have often heard of the impact of Agent Orange on the U.S. soldiers exposed to it. Imagine the impact on the Vietnamese on whose land and persons it was dumped! The Vietnamese babies who survived the birth deformities caused by their parents' exposure to the herbicide are today young adults and teenagers. This film examines their lives and calls on Vietnam's government and the international community to help these courageous families. There are oceans of sadness here as these families make human contact with you. Note: some of the deformities are quite frightening, but important to see. WARNING! If you watch this film you may never be able to support another war ever again, especially one fought (as we were told over and over again the one in Vietnam was) to "protect human rights". Donation A

Remember My Lai video 1989 60 mins. In the 1991 milieu glorifying war, it is critical that all young people see this program on what war does to the soldiers who fight it and to the civilians who are dehumanized and killed. This Frontline program examines the events that led up to the U.S. assault on the village of My Lai on March 16, 1968, the slaughter that took place, the cover-up of the story by the military and the press for well over one year, the investigations and court-martials and the failure of justice. Special focus on the young guys that made up Charlie company, their background and the fact that they were barely 20 years old. The strength of the program, however, is the interviews with the few remaining Vietnamese survivors of the massacre and some of the U.S. soldiers involved in one way or another in the events of that day. These interviews will move you to tears. While some U.S. soldiers shrug off the massacre, most of them exhibit the most amazing courage and sensitivity in dealing with what they did or what they saw happen. One black veteran, whose life has been destroyed by what he did that day, is surrounded by the numerous medications he takes to help him barely function after numerous suicide attempts and the murder of his own child. The viewer can only be moved by the horrible injustice that such a wonderful man ends up having to bear all the pain and paralyzing guilt that should rightly belong to the nation that sent him to kill and now ignores the crimes it committed, the nation whose leaders deliberately planned and lied the country into the Vietnam war and continue lying us into new wars in 1991. Young people today must hear the voices of these past warriors. Donation B

War At Home video 1979* 100 mins. Finally available! The only major motion picture documentary about the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War. Concentrates on the student political activities at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Includes extraordinary footage from the times. A vivid and compelling story of how the anti-war movement grew as a genuine people's revolt. Donation A

Winter Soldier video & 16mm b&w film 1971* 15 mins.* Without a doubt the most moving testimony available on war atrocities by American GI's, testified to by the GI's themselves. Part of the Winter Soldier Hearings held by the Vietnam Veterans Against the War in Detroit in the early 70's during the height of the movement by anti-war GI's. Two versions available: the testimony of the Americal Division 16mm film format only) or that of the First Marine Division (video format or 16mm). Donation A

Only the Beginning video & 16mm color film 1971* 18 mins.* Opens and closes with hundreds of decorated Vietnam Veterans, just returned from the war, throwing away their medals in front of the Capitol Building to protest the war. Best expose of the true nature of Nixon's Vietnamization strategy from 1969-1972. Dramatic footage of the devastating air war over South Vietnam and of GI's burning villages and herding people into concentration camps. Vets testify about atrocities. Some National Liberation Front footage. Brings back the emotions that caused the uproar over the war. Narrated by Vietnam Veterans. Donation A

Setting the Record Straight: Vietnam Veterans and the Peace Movement video 1996 36 mins. These moving 1990's interviews by the Lexinton Oral History Project with Vietnam veterans who participated in the Vietnam Veterans Against the War open up new insights about the war and the experiences of soldiers returning home from the conflict. Helps torpedo the commonly held view that the peace movement opposed the soldiers by making it clear that many veterans led the peace movement. And there's much, much more here too, about pain and about compassion and about courage. Very moving stuff. Donation A

Guns, Drugs and the CIA video 1988 60 mins. A probing expose by PBS on how the CIA has used drug lords and drug money to fight secret wars around the world for the past forty years. Shows that these same drug dealers have used the CIA's money, equipment and protection to increase the flow of illegal narcotics. Focuses on two of the CIA's largest covert operations: the secret war in Laos (1960 - 1973) and the Contra War in Nicaragua. Interviews and shocking footage document this whole story that has been hidden from the U. S. public. Highlights the hypocrisy of proclaiming a domestic "war on drugs" while the U. S. government aids and abets drug running. (The real jewel here is the documentation of George Bush's connection to it all, using some of the same witnesses Bush uses to prosecute Noriega!) An absolutely amazing program. Donation B

Straight Talk: Vietnam Veterans Speak Out video 1990 30 mins. A production of the Veterans Education Project in Greenfield, Mass. which works to educate students about the realities of war which are obscured by aggressive U.S. military recruiting tactics in area high schools. In footage of classroom presentations, the veterans are unrelentingly honest about their role in the war, life in the military, how they felt before they were drafted or enlisted, how they felt in Vietnam, and how they felt afterwards. Shows the interest students have in what the vets have to say. In addition to providing students with a new understanding of war, the Education Project has given the veterans a new sense of self-worth because they have an important story to share. May be especially valuable for educators considering veteran visits to their classrooms. Good quality of information and production. Age level: All. Donation A

No Longer Enemies: Healing Wounds in Vietnam video 1996 19 mins. The U.S. sprayed over 12 million gallons of dioxin-laden Agent Orange on South Vietnam during the Vietnam war to defoliate the countryside and protect their soldiers from ambush. U.S. soldiers from that war and Vietnamese residents now show symptoms of that exposure: cancer, neurological disorders, birth defects and psychological disorders. In 1993, a group of U.S. veterans returned to Hanoi to share medical information and begin a process of reconciliation with the Vietnamese. This video documents the history of Agent Orange, the U.S. suppression of information about its detrimental effects, the movement toward reconciliation in Vietnam and the U.S., and how openly investigating the dangerous consequences of Agent Orange to citizens of both countries can lead to medical solutions for their suffering. Excellent quality of information. Good quality of production. Age level: college/adult. Donation A

Citizen Soldier: The Story of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War video 1997 57 mins. An updated history of the role of Vietnam veterans in the movement against the Vietnam War. A "must see" for seriuos students of the war. Donation A

Vietnam: The Secret Agent video 1983 56 mins. A shocking program on U.S. chemical warfare during the Vietnam War. Actually, one of the best programs on U.S. military systems used in the war. Donation A

Beyond Vietnam: Lessons Unlearned video 1992 55 mins. A Veterans for Peace Production that is excellent for raising questions about the meaning of the Vietnam war and examing the reality of combat and psychological wounds veterans must endure. A narrative by Vietnam veteran and Counselor Steve Bentley is credible and compassionate and the excerpts from popular and official media drive home his points with emotional force. Good for use in high school age through adult. Donation A

Different Sons video 1971 54 mins. An important historic record of the beginnings of the Vietnam Veterans anti-war movement that all young people should see. In the late summer of 1970, one hundred U.S. soldiers - recently returned from Vietnam - marched through the towns and country-side of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Their purpose: to tell spectators of the atrocities they committed in Vietnam and to arouse anti-war sentiment about the immorality of the war. Along the way, they enact scenes of the brutality they engaged in while in Vietnam. Interviews with the soldiers communicate deep insight into the war and the humanity of the Vietnamese. They are confronted by pro-war residents and praised by those who oppose the war. Interviews with pro-war spectators really communicate the racism and rampant anti-communism that was the bulwark of pro-war, pro-Nixon sentiment of those days. Excellent for undermining revisionist history that claims the anti-war movement rejected the veterans. Shows that it was the pro-war people who rejected the soldiers as losers while they were embraced by the anti-war movement. Combines somewhat boring footage of marching with some of the most profound statements about the war and the humanity of the Vietnamese that you will find anywhere. Makes you feel proud that these young soldiers of peace are your fellow citizens. Donation A

America Takes Charge: 1965-67 video 1983* 60 mins. Episode five of the PBS series on the war. Tremendous footage of U.S. troops in Vietnam and the nature of the war. U.S. vets that have different perspectives talk about their experiences fighting the war. An extremely important document that all students should see. Donation A

Roots of a War video 1983* 60 mins. Episode 1 of the PBS series on the Vietnam war. A clear and concise look at Vietman's ancient history, the French conquest and the struggle for independence culminating in Vietnam's declaration in 1945. Key section on the alliance between Ho Chi Minh and the U.S. during World War II. Invaluable background. Donation A

First Vietnam War: 1946-1954 video 1983* 60 mins. Episode 2 of the PBS series on Vietnam. Shows how the U.S. turned against Ho Chi Minh's government and supported the French in their attempted re-conquest of Vietnam. Follows the course of the war, culminating in the dramatic story of the battle of Dien Bien Phu. Critical historical information. Donation A

Vietnam Experience video 1987 29 mins. The music of Country Joe and the Fish is superimposed on moving footage from the war, anti-war demonstrations of the 60's and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington to provide a grunt's-eye view of the Vietnam experience. The last musical piece/segment is a moving but poltically confused presentation on post-war vets issues including MIA?POW. Good for discussion with high school students. Donation A

Lament of a Warrior's Wife video 1991 55 mins. Put the POW/MIA controversy into perspective for your students and friends with this powerful personal story that depicts the sorrow and concern among the Vietnamese for their 300,000 military and civilian MIA's. Shows how Vietnamese mothers and wives from northern and southern Vietnam dealt with the losses of sons and husbands during the war and today. Uses historical war footage and moving contemporary interviews to examine the overall human and psychological costs of the war that are borne by all Vietnamese. Includes information on U.S. MIA's and a powerful interview with the mother of one of these U.S. missing. Also shows the tremendous problems the search for U.S. MIA's imposes on a country that can barely care for the millions of its orphans, disabled and mentally ill caused by the war - never mind account for its MIA's. Even though Vietnamese MIA families express anger at the U.S. Army and the unfairness of U.S. insistence that Vietnam make a full accounting of U.S. MIA's a top priority, the overall effect of the program is to establish a solidarity between Vietnamese and U.S. families with MIA's. This is a special program that provides deep insight into the Vietnamese. Produced by the Asia Resource Center. Donation A1

Vietnam: When Night Comes video 1987 30 mins. Provides a look at Vietnam's new economic policies, the daily lives of Vietnamese and the beautiful countryside. Also gives a glimpse of the war years with a crawl through the tunnels of Cu Chi and a look at how the Vietnamese have converted war items into useful objects. Won a Gold Medal at the 1988 New York Film Festival. Donation A

Also this, which is a documentary about Operation RAW. This is the event where Kerry and Fonda spoke and were photographed together:

Good find..........there are a MULTITUDE of voters whose only understanding of the VietNam war is six paragraphs in their US History book. Many are willing, however, to recite and regurgitate what the liberals spoon feed them, in an ongoing effort to white-wash "the real John Kerry's" role in all of this. They need to see for themselves how self-serving and traitorous this man's actions really were!

Kids, for less than $25 we could have footage of Kerry addressing the VVAW from the same platform as Jane Fonda:

"Requested Donations: Donation A - $10 to $15"

Somebody better act quick, before the bad guys do and this gets disappeared.

There is a great likelihood that this would contain footage of John Kerry throwing (someone else's) medals away.

Kerry was the last person in line, it is said. So he wanted to be the most dramatic. Which was only fitting since the whole thing was his idea.

Getting that footageg would be quite a coup!

Most likely, I would think screen captures would be the way to go.

Well that was more about the hoax photo than the real photo, which when used with watermark was completely acceptable to Corbis.

But I know what you mean.

It would be interesting to hear the expressions of former
1st Div Marines about that one film.

Oh, I loved this bit of propaganda.

Racism = anti-communism.
Pro-war = pro-Nixon.

No mention of JFKLBJ's little war.

The antiwar "movement" didn't embrace soldiers, they embraced LOSERS.

Oh, Kerry = Loosner!
