MATT DRUDGE TO BE HONORED AT ACADEMY AWARDS? (2004 OSCAR poster features "retro" reporter in fedora)
www.OSCARS.com ^ | February 28, 2004 | Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (and RonDog)

Posted on 02/28/2004 11:57:44 AM PST by RonDog

WHO did the Academy have in mind
when they created this year's Official Poster?

From www.oscars.org:

Poster size: 27" x 40"

Last year was about the history and elegance of our diamond anniversary. THIS year is all about the fun and excitement, the flash and pizzazz of Oscar Night. To capture that vibe, the Academy commissioned pop artist Burton Morris to create the official poster art for the 76th Academy Awards. Be part of the scene and order yours now.

And, from www.drudgereportarchives.com:
We report, you decide. :o)

My observations about the inspiration behind this year's Official Poster are, of course, entirely speculative. :o)

BUT, in what may even MORE of a surprise, it appears that the nice folks at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences actually DO plan to honor the U.S. military at this years's event.

Like millions, Helen Chambers of Happy Valley will be tuned in with her husband and family to Sunday's glitzy Academy Awards ceremony on TV.

But it won't be the Hollywood stars, or the ceremony itself, that will command her full attention.

For her, the real stars of the night will be her son, Brian Aria, and his wife Kayla, both 20.

Aria, a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, will be spiffily decked out in his dress blues representing the Marine Corps at the Academy Awards and will be accompanied by his wife, an Enterprise High School graduate.

"He's pretty excited," said Chambers, 44. "He thinks it's pretty neat."

So does mom and her husband, Scott Chamness.

Details are still on the vague and secretive side, but Chambers said her son, an Iraq War veteran who was selected by the Marine Corps for the prestigious Oscar night honor, will be stationed somewhere along the red carpet outside the Kodak Theater in full view of the TV cameras and paparazzi.

And, he's ready for his close-up, Mr. DeMille.

Aria, who attended Shasta High School, joined the Marine Corps almost two years ago and fought in the Iraq War from February to August.

"A year ago, he was a 19 year old going to war," she said. "Now, he's going to the Academy Awards."

A writer for TV Guide has even interviewed him, she said.

Aria, who is stationed at Camp Pendleton, and his wife are being chauffeured from the base to a Hollywood area hotel, where they will stay before being whisked off to the Academy Awards.

Chambers, a Shasta County Mental Heath social worker, said her son, and another Marine, were selected to represent the Corps due to their sterling gung-ho records.

"He's a very determined young man and a model Marine," she said.

And her son has always been driven to excel in just about everything he does, she said.

An Anaheim native, Aria is the son of Steve Aria of Red Bluff and the youngest of two other brothers, Chris, 23, of Happy Valley and Kevin, 24, of Redding.

The family relocated from Riverside to Red Bluff in 1984 and then moved to Shasta County in 1990.

After Aria joined the Marine Corps, he participated in the invasion of Iraq and served as a mortar man and as security during his duty there, where he had "some close calls," his mother said.

And, she said, there's a distinct possibility that he might have to return there in the not-too-distant future.

But in the meantime, she said, her son will enjoy basking in the Academy Awards spotlight, rooting for "The Lord of the Rings," to win Best Picture and attending an ABC-sponsored party where he and his wife might rub shoulders with Hollywood's beautiful people.

"He's looking forward to partying with the stars," she said.

Don't understand why the USMC would post a LnceCpl in blues on the red carpet area. This would allow all the entering Hollywood types to spit on him as they walked by.

Drudge being horoed? By these America-hating, ultra-left wing, neocommunist traitors? Very droll!

Are yall going again this year?
You bet!
So far, we expect:
TED HAYES, and some folks from the Dome Village
Cinnamon Girl
DoughtyOne
ALOHA RONNIE
Outraged
Rockitz, and his entourage
FIT-AIM-ACT-1 and FRiends

and possibly
Jessamine
daviddennis
Bob J
hole_n_one
...plus anyone ELSE who would like to join us:
Sunday, February 29th
We will be forming our line of defense for our beloved nation
on the corner of Hollywood and Highland around
3:00 PM.

Bring flags, signs supporting our country, the troops, the President etc.
I plan to park where I did last year - in the underground parking lot at the Galaxy theater on Syracuse:
Grant Parking at Galaxy
It is just WEST of the Kodak Theather, and can be accessed from the NORTH side.

It should cost about $5, and is less that a mile to walk.

Ted says that we will be able to be where we were last year - at the NORTH-EAST corner of Hollywood and Highland.
DoughtyOne, FIT-AIM-ACT-a and I plan to get there around NOON - to confirm our position.
The TV cameras should arrive around 3 pm (California time), and leave by about 5 pm - when they all go INSIDE...

Expect a few awards to go to some actors who were vocally opposed to the war (and possibly living outside America even though they won't renounce their citizenship).

I think that the military invite was to try to protect their image to some degree.

Awards, Honors and other Hollywood Nonsense (Foot In Mouth Awards)

Greats of old, decorum reign at the Oscars
By Joanne Ostrow
Denver Post Media Critic

Chalk it up to the flap over the recent excesses of live television.

Hollywood was on its best behavior Sunday night, not even testing the five-minute delay during the Oscar telecast.

Not rowdy, downright respectful. In several ways, it was throwback to years past, a night of honoring Hollywood stalwarts and respecting tradition...

-- snip --

After-action FReep Report:

"Hollywood Resistance Force" battles massive crowds,
horrendous traffic, INTENSE security,
and widespread apathy to FReep the 2004 Oscars

(Fortunately, there were NO "anti-war" protesters outside the Oscars this year,
and Michael Moore got squashed by Hobbits inside.)
What a difference a year makes!

LAST YEAR, the war to liberate Iraq was just beginning, and thousands of "anti-war" disruptors threatened to march on the site of the 2003 Academy Awards.

DOZENS FReepers and HUNDREDS of FRiends rallied outside the Kodak Theatre to support our troops. Since the Academy cancelled the traditional Red Carpet arrival ceremony, most of the movie fans stayed home. Michael Moore attacked the President and our troops inside, and we defended them outside - very successfully.

THIS YEAR, elements of the "Hollywood Resistance Force" (also known as the Los Angeles Chapter of the Free Republic Network) gathered once more near the corner of Hollywood and Highland - just outside of the Red Carpet area - to counter any potential "anti-war" protests.

The RATs stayed away.
