Republican Congressman Jim Kolbe (Arizona) just announced that gay marriage (in opposition to the laws)is something whos "time is come" and compared the civil disobediance of gay couples getting married to the civil rights struggles of African-Americans. He went on to state that (paraphrase) 'gay marriage will be considered normal in a few years'. I heard it straight from his own lips at a meeting with him today.

The word Marriage has a definition, two men and two women cannot be married.

Well, I'm not very angry about anything. I am concerned about protection of traditional marriage and family values in order to raise healthy future generations on this planet. I don't care if They have some sort of civil union that makes their relationship legal. If its confusing to me then how do I explain it to a child. I don't want a child thinking such relationships are normal. They are far from it.
If they were "normal" we would not be having this discussion. If you know anything that I don't to clear up some of the confusion please let me know. I do plan on discussing this with the married gays I know. I honestly don't think we would be discussing this if it were not an election year.

Well said.

Statement on a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage

Washington, DC Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) today issued the following statement on a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage. I oppose an amendment to the United States Constitution to limit the rights of one group of Americans. Never before has it been proposed that our Constitution should be used to limit the rights of citizens rather than expand those rights. We must not start down such a dangerous path now. Lets be clear about one thing: an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to restrict marriages is not about protecting the sanctity of the institution of marriage. No one is suggesting any religious group would be compelled to participate in a marriage ceremony between two men or two women. No marriage between a man and a woman will be jeopardized by giving legal standing to a similar commitment by two persons of the same gender. Moreover, states have always had exclusive jurisdiction over family law since the founding of our republic. To shift that jurisdiction to federal law is both unnecessary and unwarranted. It would create an extraordinarily dangerous precedent. Marriage is an important institution, the foundation of families and the bedrock of our society. It should be respected and strengthened. Let us hold true to our principles of expanding rights for our citizens, not limiting them, and keep our sacred Constitution intact. ### |

All 27 amendments are all about some special interst social cause.
He has swallowed the homosexual agenda on this issue. The notion that the states have control of this is a fools errand. Arizona is going to have its laws controlled by Massachusetts.
Did he consider the implications on immigration? Fiance visas for homosexuals which CAN NOT BE DENIED! What if I want to bring over my 100 fiances for our group same sex poligamy? nothing can stop us.
He is also a fool because he did not consider the effect on the federal budget and social security.
This is about normalizing sex. He has been lost in the mere religion issue. How can he be this stupid?

He can't be a solid conservative and be pro-"gay" rights or marriage.
End of story.

Sorry, I disagree with you...he is not a social "conservative", but a fiscal conservative. I don't understand how so many conservatives can eliminate people based upon their stand on one or two issues? Jim is a very good man, has a great heart, and is honest with himself. I respect him whole-heartedly. If he had stayed in the closet, he would have been lying to himself. We all have issues, this is one that he has. He has chosen a different path that I would, but on the things that are most important to me, he is right on. His constituents love him and overwhelming re-elect him year after year. If he were to retire/switch parties, that district would be very hard for the Republicans to retain.

Or it says, moderates go away and don't hit on the butt on the way out. The Republican Party, in the past, has been a coalition of lots of ideological groups/factions. In the 90's it was dominated by the Christian Coalition and a lot of fiscal conservatives stayed home, switched parties, or voted for the lesser-of-two evils when it came to their candidates. Now the Republican Party is gravitating more to the center as the Democrat Party has swung dangerously more to the left. This is why nationally, the Republicans have been winning elections. We see examples of this in history, Goldwater (far right), McGovern (Left), Dukakis (Left)....Clinton (although many would not want to admit it) straddled the middle ground well enough to get elected twice (okay once with a split of two fiscal conservatives in 1992). Bush is straddling the middle ground which is what he needs to do during election years to get elected. If he swung to the right, he would lose the middle grounders who he needs the most to win. Kerry swung hard to the Left (although he didn't have to go too far left as he is already a socialist and opportunist), Dean/Sharpton/Kucinich/Gephart/Edwards were forcing him hard to the outer-limits of left. Dean especially got the Party gravitating harder and harder left that Kerry had to pull all stops to win this election. Now, Kerry is going to have a very tough 8 months swinging back to the middle ground to get elected. Bush is already in the center...he has to keep his coalition of right-thinking conservatives, centrists, and fiscal conservatives to trust in his and his team's leadership to win. If the economy keeps on this path and Iraq is more stable, he can win this thing, but it will NOT be easy as we live in a world of "victims" and "entitlements" who vote lock-stop with the Dims.

His constituents love him and overwhelming re-elect him year after year. Again, you speak from ignorance. His constituents HATE him. HATE him. 6 months ago when he came through the area with his town halls, his constituents were very vocal in denouncing him in the meetings. In January when he held his town halls, every single one of them was protested by conservative Republicans fed up with the RINO.
He is not welcome in Cochise County at Republican Party events. There have been several this year and last year and he attended none of them. Likely, he was not invited as he is a lightning rod for controversy and is generally hated by most Republicans here. At last month's Lincoln Day Dinner, mere mention of his name prompted boos and jeers from the Republican crowd.
Two years ago he was afraid to even step foot inside the Cochise County Republican Party HQ. I have not met a single Republican in his district that supports him beyond a small cabal of RINOs that are infesting the party down here. I don't know who is voting for him in the primaries because no one I know wants anything to do with him.
His fiscal conservatism is questionable. His social conservatism does not exist. He does not, in any way, reflect any traditional Republican values. He is a RINO of the first degree. He is so bad that his Republican brother just recently came out against him in the newspaper and declared that Kolbe does not represent Cochise County, Rep. Tom Tancredo does.
Follow the embedded links. They help tell the story. Kolbe must go. He does not represent the people of his district and is a despicable individual.
