BROCKTON John Gonsalves III knows the effects war can have on a family. His grandfather John Gonsalves, a U.S. Army infantryman, was killed in Normandy, France, in June 1944 during the week of the D-Day invasion. "My life was changed 22 years before I was born," Gonsalves, 38, of Wareham said. Nearly 60 years later Gonsalves is trying to change the life of a Brockton man whose aspirations to become a helicopter mechanic were forever altered by war. A construction supervisor, Gonsalves founded the charitable organization Homes For Our Troops. He wants to build the group's first house for Sgt. Peter Damon, his wife Jennifer and their children Allura, 6, and Daniel 1. Peter Damon, 31, lost both his hands in a military accident in Balad, Iraq, about 40 miles north of Baghdad, while serving with the 126th Aviation Battalion, based at Camp Edwards on Cape Cod.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Please hit your ping lists on this one. This is a very worthy cause.

I think this is the most wonderful idea for vets of Iraq and Afghanistan who as a result of their injuries, have special needs. I plan on donating to this most worthy cause.

LOL! No pity needed for me...the cats are a joy, although a bit demanding.
Last week, when I was feeling bad, they all curled up around me on the sofa while I napped. Can't get mad at them for wanting breakfast early!

Though not pets, I have 4 rabbits that call the old shed next to the house their home. They've been sitting out on the 8 foot tall snowbanks during the day time in a huddle. It's pretty cute. I don't have names for any of them yet, but the one has an ear that looks notched at the top and hangs down over one eye.
