Bake Sale This Friday!
Posted on 03/16/2004 8:39:23 PM PST by Raymann
The University of Rochester College Republicans are finally having their AA Bake Sale this Fri the 19th. For any of you in the area, it'll be at 12:00 at the entrance of Wilson Commons. We'll be selling a few different kinds of cookies although that is obviously not the point. Prices start at $1.50 for Asians, a $1.00 for whites and so on (we're still working on that though). We're keeping this as low key as possible until we start as we don't want the liberal groups on campus to have a prepared protest. The location is right where most students go to eat so we were lucky to get that spot. We'll also call the local media outlets that morning so they can come over.
Hopefully we can get through the day peacefully but even if we get shut down (by the university or by protesters) at least we will get our point made. Just in case however I'll make sure we have a camcorder and a few cameras around to get a record of what happens.
TOPICS: Activism/Chapters; Announcements; Miscellaneous; US: New York
KEYWORDS: academia; action; affirmative; affirmativeaction; bake; bakesale; collegerepublicans; highereducation; newyork; rochester; sale; university

Just to be authentic, you should hose down a few minorities to prevent them from buying the cookies for the first few hours.

Some friendly advice from the bake sale at Columbia:
Make sure to have a clear statement of purpose explaining why you oppose AA.
Have as many facts at your disposal as possible.
Base the prices on a racial breakdown at UR.
Have a camera, tape recorder, and/or camcorder
Advertise the event.
Make sure taht your paperwork is in order with the administration.
Be prepared to be misrepresented by the school paper.

Raymann, I would add to poster rmlew's comments below: Have all this IN WRITING as a handout to be given to every cookie buyer (assuming you sell ANY!) and anyone else who asks. Especially media, who will misquote anything you SAY but might have a harder time misrepresenting your written materials.
