Best home page???
Posted on 04/01/2004 4:26:36 PM PST by my right
Just got DSL with bell south and I thought I would use them for my home page but I found out in order to get local weather etc that I had to agree to give them all kinds of intrusive info. Now I know that I have to give them my zip code but these people have a required list of address, phone# and on and on. My browser is IE and I have used them as home before but also they are intrusive. Any sugestions??

"Any sugestions??"
Yep. Give 'em completely bogus information, other than your Zip code, which is needed to give you accurate local weather. Other than that, just make up a name, address, phony phone #, etc.
I like using my porn name of "Rod Johnson". That way, if I ever get any emails for 'him', I know it's bogus and can be deleted without looking at it.

Since they are your ISP, don't they already have that info?

Are you the only one who doesn't have this website as your homepage? Sheesh, get with the program.

It's Bell South, too. The don't know where to send the regular phone bill?

Well, you have a couple of options. If you don't really want a home page, you can change it to about:blank or hit Use Blank in the Tools->Internet Options dialog. Otherwise you could use
Intellicast as a homepage if for example you wanted weather. I may also suggest using the FreeRepublic Latest Posts page...

Yes they do but I don't think they require an agreement to send you advertisements and god only knows what else.

Don't use something called 'Weatherbug', it promised my local weather on my desk top. Advertising wa so intrusive, I decided to uninstall....I swear THAT gave me a virus, and I had to take it into the shop for a clean up.

I use excite.com just for the homepage - meaning I don't use their email. I registered under a fake name and a fake address, but with my real city and zip code.
I have all my links, my local weather, TV, and movie listings, plus I get a really cool patriotic background.

I use about:blank
My browser loads faster with that, plus I hate opening the same page everytime I run it.
