School play's lesbian kiss shocks parents
CBC News ^ | Apr 15 2004

A high school play featuring a same-sex kiss between two lesbian characters has caused a stir in North Vancouver.

The principal of Handsworth Secondary told the school's drama teacher to take the scene out of the play Broken Theory – after getting some complaints after the play's second show.

North Vancouver School Board chair Ginny Diebolt says the principal acted because the play featured inappropriate language and sexually explicit scenes.

"High school plays must have a broad appeal to a broad range in the community.

"And I think there is an expectation in our community that if you go to a high school play that it is suitable for a broad range in the community. You could bring your youngster, and so could I, to this," says Diebolt.

But students involved in producing the play are crying censorship – and homophobia.

"The people who have the issue with it are fighting an already lost battle because being gay is OK. And it's shown publicly that it's OK, and you can't stop it," says co-author Susan Rezai.

"Stopping children from seeing a one-second kiss is not going to make homophobia go away. It's just going to add to it."

Rezai says more than 110 students were involved in creating and performing the play.

She says despite being censored, she is still going to pursue her dream to be a playwright.

God help us all when corrupting children receives government endorsement. Let's see...it took only months for the gay marriage issue to cross the northern border. American kiddies should be performing lesbo plays any day now. I know they are already seeing this kind of thing on school videos, in assembly productions, and, of course, on television. It's a tiny baby-step to move on to having the young ones immitate the behavior themselves in school plays (and on their own). And we will ALL be forced to "celebrate." Welcome to liberty American depravity style.

"Blame Canada!
Shame on Canada!
The smut we must stop,
The trash we must smash!
Laughter and fun,
Must all be undone!
We must blame them and cause a fuss,
Before someone thinks of blaming us!"

Did you know that Tenessee Williams, who did Glass Menagerie, was also gay? I just found that out, so maybe it's for the better if we quit looking at it.

I'm so sick of these heathens thinking they are entitled to push their evil lifestyle in my face! These queers are all going to hell for their amoral lifestyles and deserve the worst. They're every bit as sick and perverted as the pedophiles, the rapists, and the bigamists.

I noticed the homophobic word too. Just because I'm not scared of homosexuals does not mean I have to accept their lifestyle.

In the 50's a girl dated someone from the wrog side of the tracks to shock and annoy her parents.

In the 60's they dated beatnicks, dopeheads, and hippies.

In the 70's it was "free love".

In the 80's and early 90's it was dating someone of a different race.

To raise the shock level yet again, they are flirting with homosexuality.

If legislators were smart in America they would use the law to create a trap for events such as this when they occur here. They could criminally charge teachers with promoting "kiddie porn" and make them all register as sex offenders!

LOL! Yes, I knew he had a likin' fer men ;) Several of his plays had veiled homosexual themes however, there was no making out and sex involved. I believe the best writing involves sublties and illusions so the reader can draw their own conclusions from the material. JMHO, though.

From a couple of years ago:

An excerpt from "Schools sued over pro-homosexual skits - Parents' orders to opt-out kids from 'Cootie Shots' overlooked"

"The Pacific Justice Institute recently filed a lawsuit, on behalf of parents, against the Novato Unified School District in Novato, Calif., for authorizing pro-homosexual assemblies without any prior notice or parental consent...

The presentations, entitled "Cootie Shots," exposed elementary school children as young as seven to skits containing gay and lesbian overtures. "Cootie Shots: Theatrical Inoculations Against Bigotry" is a collection of plays, songs and poems written by members of Fringe Benefits Theatre, a coalition of theater activists who, according to their website, are "dedicated to building bridges between gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) youth and their straight peers, teachers and parents." The United Teachers of Los Angeles and the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network of Los Angeles created a classroom activity guide to accompany "Cootie Shots" which GLSEN sells on its website...

News of the lawsuit comes on the heels of California Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy's failed attempt to prohibit the promotion of homosexuality in public schools, which he sees as infringing on the rights of parents. Mountjoy especially takes issue with the "lewd and lascivious" materials used in schools to promote homosexuality. As WorldNetDaily reported last month, instructions on homosexual sodomy and a glorified account of lesbian pedophilia are among the instructional materials approved by the Los Angeles Unified School District for use in a "diversity" curriculum being presented to elementary through high school students. The materials were referenced by Mountjoy before the state Assembly education committee...

The "Cootie Shots" show came to Pleasant Valley Elementary School and San Ramon Elementary School in Novato in 2001. According to the lawsuit, the parents were not notified of the "Cootie Shots" assemblies, which "exposed each of the children to terms that were not appropriate" and posed questions to them "regarding their personal beliefs and/or practices in sex, family life, morality and religion." The suit alleges that even after the assemblies, the schools did not disclose that the performance contained information about homosexuality and other issues that were against the personal moral convictions of the parents."

Concerned parents went to the schools after the assemblies to inquire about the use of the "opt-out" forms they had submitted at the beginning of the school year. According to the lawsuit, staff members reported that the forms were "missing..."

Homosexual Agenda Ping. Oh, this dudette says "gay is ok" so therefore it is.

Is this Star Trek, and she is Captain Picard? "Make it so" and it is?

Let me know if you want on/off this pinglist.

Parents and Grandparents - READ THIS ONE! Your kids' or grandkids' school may be just as bad as this one or worse. Would you let your kids or grandkids go to a school where a lot of the kids and teachers and administrators have TB? And are trying to infect others?

Well gosh, she outlines our "nose under the tent" argument really well, doesn't she?

I am certain that this play did appeal to some broads in the range of the community.
