Need Help From Freeper Females (vanity)

Some of the guys and I are presently at the camping lodge and we’ve got a problem that requires the help of a sensible woman. My brother-in-law managed to get something in his hair this morning, and he wanted to wash it out. I can’t tell you what that something was, because he’s refused to divulge that to us thus far (I suspect that he fabricated the “tainted hair” theory to save himself some embarrassment.)

My brother-in-law believes that his wife has, at some point, told him that peanut butter is a useful household hair cleaner / conditioner. His wife animately denied ever saying anything about peanut butter, and thinks that he must have confused it with mayonnaise. Anyway, this guy has gone from a docile gentlemen to a ranting idiot and he’s now in a state of full blown panic.

Please provide us with any suggestions that you may have for removing peanut butter from hair. If possible, we’d like to know of any “home remedies” that may work – we’re in a fairly remote location and nobody is willing to go to the store. Besides looking ridiculous, he smells horrible. Here’s what we’ve tried so far:

A) Tried to “melt” it away by pouring very hot water over his head. This basically resulted in mild burns to his neck and scalp.
B) Made a makeshift shower cap out of a Wal-Mart bag, taped it around his head to make it watertight, and poured beer in a small hole at the top. He let it soak for about an hour to no avail.

Anything that you can suggest would be most appreciated.

Jaysun

I hope it wasn't chunky peanut butter.

Peanut butter is used to remove gum from hair.

Remove peanut butter from hair ? sometimes using something with the same properties will work. try peanut oil.

My best friend was a hairdresser.
Do NOT add any more water to the PB. It is high in oil. Any oil can be taken out with Dawn or liquid detergent. I did mayo on my kids hair during a lice scare. Pure oil. Straight shampoo will take it out, but since the shampoo is gone, any liquid soap or detergent. NO water before you get alot of detergent on, sudz it up as much as possible then rinse and repeat until clean.

Honestly, PB is not bad in a pinch. It takes stickers and gum out of kids hair, baby oil works better.

Please ping me with the results.

I don't remember ever hearing of anything like this. While I went to beauty college and thought I had remedy's for anything to do with hair, this one throws me. If he has used all of the shampoo, surely you have regular bath soap? If so, I would suggest he just keep washing it using soap until it comes out. It is because it is oil that is making it difficult. Rub, rub, rub that bar of soap on it!!

Tomato juice does work for skunk odor.

I agree that a dishwashing soap like dawn would cut the grease.

But vinegar is also effective at removing stuff, or lemon juice might work to cut the grease from the peanut butter.

By the way, mayonnaise is what you use when your kid has head lice and nothing else will get rid of them.

What seems to be the major concern? What was the result from the hot water? Too oily? Try patting cornstarch on the hair. NOT into it, onto it. Then shampoo, Prell might work best but can be too drying so afterwards you might need a conditioner.

I don't have a clue, but I did a Google search and what little I found also suggested, as some here, to use dishwashing liquid.

Put dishwashing liquid in a bowl, have him soak his head, wash, rinse, repeat. He may have to do this a number of times, depending on the amount of peanut butter in the hair.

Mayonnaise is a good conditioner, but so are raw eggs.

Oh now you've done it. Now he's going to have peanut butter, beer, and raw eggs in his hair.

Add a little flour and they could have some hairy cookies to snack on.

Wasn't there a Simpson's episode about this? What ever you choose to do, capture it on video and you are sure to make a small fortune later. Meanwhile, try axle grease for its solvent properties ... no, wait ... WD-40 (I just noticed some stucco men using it to clean up the soffits of a house going up in the neighborhood). Just keep away from the woodstove when doing it ... unless the camera is rolling :)
