Owen, you are 100% correct, and don't let them convince you otherwise.
To: republicanwizard

That Bush and Santorum, and Toomey for that matter, are more concerned with making sure that they can win a floor vote than winning a committee vote?
Bush and Santorum could easily change the make up of the judiciary committee by giving Specter some worthless promotion elsewhere. However, a no vote on the floor is a no vote on the floor, and Hoeffel is a guaranteed no vote.

I don't know what I'm going to do yet. This was a tough loss and I'm really pissed at Bush and Santorum. But I will not vote for the dem!

and after we pick up 3 more seats in the south all that you just said is moot. and if we lose a Pa. seat it won't even matter except that Specter will be gone.

And what makes you think Specter will lose his chairmanship, other than wishful thinking? Hmmmm?
With him as chiarman, Hoeffel won't have to vote "no". Specter will see to it that he can comfortably vote "yes".
To: stevio
then write in Toomey. thats what some here have said they would do.

Vote for the Scottish shitbag.
He's vile, but you'll get 30-40% good votes out him. You'll get 0-1% out of the Dem.

If the senate is a lock, I might write Toomey in too. The more I read of this the madder I get at the Specter voters, especially the conservative ones.

Wrong again GDC.
If Republicans can win 55 Senate seats by holding Pennsylvania and picking up those three Southern states you mention, then we can add one more member to every committee. That would make Specter's vote moot since in a tie, it goes to the floor.
To: PA BOOKEND
Because I saw George Bush dump Trent Lott when Lott became an obstacle to his agenda.
To: PA BOOKEND
I don't think you understand how unprecedented that episode was.
To: dead
you don't get it, specters "maybe vote" is not needed! we are going to pick up at LEAST 2 more seats in the senate so tossing specter is a WIN!!

No. It won't. You know it won't.I'm one of those naive types who think American conservatism has something to offer for everyone, if the party would bother promoting it. But your right - if the party isn't willing to sell conservative principles it will never win in those states.
Hell eventually conservatism won't be able to win in any state.

How can Specter win if he does not appeal to at least a segment of the Dems?Does the term "Reagan Democrat" ring a bell? How did Santorum win?

I want Kyl in as chairman of Judiciary too. Badly. But not at the price of a Hoeffel. He's dangerous.

Hoeffel may not head the Judiciary Committee, but if a Republican majority isn't preserved, another Dem will.So it's the certainty of a pro-abort chairing the committee if Specter wins versus the possibility of a pro-abort chairing the committee if Specter loses.
