Everybody think back to their childhood and try to remember how anybody over 30 was then enemy. The libs great utopian plan of brainwashing the utes of America is starting to backfire on them. You can get away with lies until the kid becomes an adult and sees that everything that he was told as a child was a big lie, than comes the backlash. It was the conservative 50's that created the radical 60's.

I don't disagree with your assesment.

It is , however, hard to equate Clinton invading Iraq with Bush invading Iraq simply because the reasons underlying the invasions would be day and night different.

For example, why in the hell did we send troops to Kosovo? I'm still not sure, but I do know that we most likely fought on the wrong side, and are still there years after Clinton promised our troops would be home.

Come on, when I was a democrat, I still loved my Country. Dems believe in the expansion of the State, and by all indications, so do a lot of Republicans. That never divided us into bitter camps, until more recently. JFK democrats aren't that different from current Republicans. I don't hate all dems, they're my fellow Americans too, and I know many that fought for their Country and no doubt are presently too. Not all Soldiers are Conservatives and/or Republicans. The wingnuts on either side of the spectrum though, I don't want anything to do with.

Well you're certainly right about the implausability (sp?) of clinton getting the Kosovo thing right, and he is a bad comparison model, for sure.

To be honest w/you, I never fully understood what the Kosovo thing was all about. Senator Dole was instrumental in garnering my support for the effort, manily because I trused his judgement, and not because I had done a thorough researching and analyis of the issues governing the conflict.

"Seems negative campaigning as part of commencement addresses isn't going down too well this year... There have been a number of similar stories."

YES! Isn't it wonderful! I'm daring to think there is some sort of counter-revolution emerging on our college campuses. Maybe our young folks are sick of the appeasement monkeys who would let terrorists kill us all.

Would it be fair to say that our founding fathers would also be considered isolationists by you?

No. The first declared war of the US (Tripolian Wars, 1801-5) was against state supporters of Islamic terrorism AKA the Barbary States/piracy. Washington would have gone to war against them except that the US was too weak in his presidency. While the general principles of Washington's farewell address are good, they have to be interpreted in light of our now being the world's greatest power and thus the the world's greatest target. Washington was inflexible on morals but willingly consider changed circumstances.

I think this is true. It is also probably the case that today's students wouldn't much like a humorless slashing attack on the Dems at commencement either. Politicians now have to make their commencements addresses actually appropriate to the occasion rather than trotting out a tired stump speech.

Not to get in the middle of somone elses good discussion, BUT I thought i'd toss this one thing in re Come on, when I was a democrat, I still loved my Country.

I'm assuming that you are no longer a Dem............did the change have anything to do with love of country? That's something worth thinking about.

A second point occurred to me. With few exceptions,Dem LEADERS are not patriotic, and it could be strongly argued that they don't love America. By way of example, nearly all Dem leaders are putting party above country during this time of war.

I'm a registered Conservative, really don't like being married to Party, as 'sometimes Party asks too much' (JFK quote).

The thing that made me change affiliation is the downward moral slope of the dems. Everything from sex with 10 people to sex with your dog (sorry, I'm confusing the dems w/the French here) is ok. Also, there love of factionalization: man vs. woman, black vs. white, native american vs. native american, etc. is a very dangerous National game to play. And there hatred for a true liberal education is another reason I find them abominable.

I admit there are exceptions to every "rule". Notice I spoke specifically of the "leaders" of the Democrats. I do not denigrate many rank and file Democrats...but the "power" in that party is disgustingly anti-Constitution.

The best I could ever say for Biden is that whenever Ted Kennedy sneezes, Joe gets whiplash.

The best that is said in our house is that he is still alive --- courtesy of ME.

Hubby still reminds me of how I made him hit the brake instead of the gas pedal when Joey walked out into the street on the Green in Dover about 10 years ago.

when he reminds me of that I remind him that had I let him have his way I would still be visiting him in Smyrna - he claims he would have gotten off on justifiable homicide.
