Geragos deconstructs prosecution's case against Peterson

Defense attorney: Fetus was born full-term therefore defendant's not responsible for murders

By Jason Dearen, STAFF WRITER

REDWOOD CITY -- Scott Peterson is a cad not a killer, his defense attorney said Wednesday as he began an assault on the very essence of the evidence against Peterson -- when his wife and child died.

In the scenario cast by attorney Mark Geragos, the child was born alive weeks after Christmas Eve 2002, the date prosecutors say his mother, Laci Peterson, had been killed.

"If this baby was born alive, clearly Scott Peterson had nothing to do with this murder," Geragos explained to the six men and six women of the jury. .......

Peterson's lawyer attacks investigators' work

By Brian Anderson

CONTRA COSTA TIMES

REDWOOD CITY - Saying Scott Peterson was "stone-cold innocent," defense attorney Mark Geragos blasted the police detectives Wednesday who investigated the murder of Laci Peterson and the thin case he said they cobbled together against her husband.

In his first chance to lay out his side of the case, Geragos said Modesto police believed early on that Peterson had something to do with his wife's Dec. 24, 2002, disappearance and they worked to prove only that. Through slipshod detective work, lies and far-fetched theories, they built a laughable case from circumstantial evidence that led to the prosecution of an innocent man, he said.

"The evidence is going to show beyond any doubt that not only is Scott Peterson not guilty.""......

REDWOOD CITY -- The same gravity that is holding together the "12 galaxies" apparently had enough pull to draw San Francisco's eccentric sign-toting icon, Frank Chiu, and others looking for a little collateral publicity, to the Redwood City Courthouse on Tuesday for the start of the Scott Peterson murder trial.

Parked near the courthouse in a van covered with biblical and anti-abortion messages, Ronald Brock of San Diego sought attention for his message that killing an unborn child, through abortion or any other means, is a crime.

"Murder is murder, give Conner justice," read a banner on the van. Conner was the name Scott and Laci Peterson planned to give their unborn child before a pregnant Laci disappeared in late 2002. Her husband is facing two counts of murder for their deaths.".....

Geragos: Peterson didn't do it

1:23 p.m., PDT: REDWOOD CITY - Scott Peterson had nothing to do with his pregnant wife’s murder - and his legal team will prove it, defense attorney Mark Geragos declared dramatically this morning during his opening statement.

“The evidence is going to show clearly, beyond any doubt, that not only was Scott not guilty, but stone-cold innocent,” Geragos told jurors.

Peterson, 31, of Modesto, came under media and police scrutiny after Laci Peterson vanished Dec. 24, 2002. But Peterson had no opportunity to kill her and their unborn son, Conner, Geragos said.

Evidence will show the baby was born alive, the Los Angeles lawyer announced in a series of revelations. They include:

Laci Peterson knew that her husband bought a fishing boat shortly before she vanished - and “was in the boat Dec. 20.”

The Petersons didn’t talk about the boat, even during......

Did you hear that Mark now says that the boat was for Ron? When I read this, it turned my stomach. Shows the lengths they are going to go, thrust more daggers in to Laci's family, no matter the cost. This is only the second day.

I'm more convinced they will paint Laci as a sweet, but needy, spoiled woman, someone who needed pricey items and Scott was doing everything he could to provide for her, yada, yada, yada...

IF the boat was for Ron, why was there no mention to anyone else? IF they were so thoughtful of Ron as to buy such an expensive item (what were they giving each of the other parents, btw?)because of his love of fishing and Scott so loved to fish, why did Scott repeatedly refuse to fish with Ron?

This is going to get very ugly, and the Pettysons are going to love every minute. Someone was murdered? Hell, that was nothing when Snott is in jeopardy, according to Jackie's priorities.

Regarding Henry Lee, I guess you won't be watching his new cable tv show called something like "Mysteries from the case files of Henry Lee". No kidding I saw an advertisement for it this a.m. It's going to be a series starting soon, not sure which cable station it will be on. Didn't matter to me as I sure won't be watching.

I'm retired and I watch cable news most of the day. I can't get away from Scott Peterson on cable. Do we really need to waste FR bandwidth on this case? Or Michael Jackson?

Geeeeeesh!

Ive been seeing that for the last couple of weeks too...the promo shows him in a crouching tiger stance with the title of the show as a banner. He's quite the movie star now. Wonder where he will find the time for courtroom theatrics???

BTW, the show ABOUT making meringue was on the 23rd; she MENTIONED meringue on the 24th.

Any mention so far as to how far into the show on the 24th the word meringue was mentioned? According to Scott's timeline, he left at 9:30am, halfway into the show.

This forum has a Crime and Corruption topic listing and quite a following.
I'm sure if Jim Rob thought it a "waste of bandwith" , he would eliminate that topic.
And allot of us are monthly donors....not to worry.

Did you ever watch the MSNBC special with Katie Couric interviewing the Rocha's. In that interview, Sharon Rocha stated that at the Search centre the very FIRST night, Scott would not acknowledge her when she called to him AND I quote "All he did was talk on the phone"!! That says a lot. The guy is a murdering bum and should be treated as such. If EVER the death penalty was appropriate it is in this case. It stands on a par with the Simpson case as far as OBVIOUS guilt.!! California NEEDS to get it's act together and stop making their Justice system into a hollywood production complete with clowns. I feel that the State's Jury system is sort of riding on the outcome of THIS trial. It has a chance to redeem itself after the Simpson travesty. I guess we'll see what kind of a Jury we have. Maybe it's time for Judges to issue the verdicts. If you cannot gather 12 (18) in total, LEVEL HEADED, REASONABLE, and COMMON SENSE people in the State of California, then its system needs to be changed.

Ugh. I saw that ad several times. It's Court TV. I laughed out loud when he squats down and tries to act like that fool who plays Horatio on "CSI Miami".

Oh I know, remember Jackie Peterson talking about their little romantic trip to Carmel in November, I think? Her words, "they were so loving, it was just wonderful"! GAG - Snott was calling AMBER from Carmel while he was on his romantic interlude with Laci and HIS parents. Are these people sane???

Did you watch the Hannity & Colmes segment tonight regarding today's testimony? Sean doesn't seem to get it. This is the second time I've happened to catch a daily update segment, and he seems to either: 1. not believe scott did it, or 2. not believe the evidence will convict him. Maybe I'm reading him all wrong, if someone else has seen these segments, I would like to know your opinion.

His hat full of rabbits have turned out to be skunks lately. He has been the Forensic witness in a couple of cases recently where HIS side LOST. eg: Michael Peterson and I forget the other one.
