I know it is a little late, but I wanted to at least post some pictures of our FReeping Vigil for President Regan.
After some rapid action and planning, we organized a small vigil to remember President Ronald Wilson Reagan. 7:30pm Monday evening (6/7/04).
The heavy rains let up a bit as we started gathering in the park. It seemed kind of fitting. As the sadness of our loss lifted, we were left to share with each other the joy we felt at having been touched by this great leader.
We looked through pictures and re-read the speeches while listening to recordings of some of his greatest ones. We were all reminded, not only of this man's greatness, but also his humbleness and strength.
hilaryrhymeswithrich was there with her husband James and her three kids. Georgiabushie? (if she would post we would know for sure) was there as well with her kids and their friends. Robert A. Cook, PE was there to round out the group.
As always, I was re-affirmed to me that FReepers and conservatives in general are a WONDERFUL group of people. Instead of wallowing in misery, we all shared stories of how this man had changed our world, what he meant to us. From college stories of alchohol induced voting mistakes to complete turn arounds of ideology, each shared a very personal connection with him.
At just after sunset, we all lit candles and HWRW's daughter led us in a fitting and touching prayer.
In the end. It was perfect!
Thank you for the report and the pictures.
God blessed our country when he gave us Ronald Reagan.
BUMP for your sweet FReeper vigil!
I can see from the pics that it was a lovely tribute.
bttt
THIS cartoon makes me weep. . .
Proud tears.
Thank you for your service and for conducting the freep.
Your beautiful and loving tribute is why Ronald Reagan was such a great optimist and loved the American people. How wonderfully blessed we are to see your homage to a great man and President of the United States of America.
Thanks for this.
I was headed over there from Woodstock and the rain didn't seem like it was going let up at all.
Can I suggest that we organize something for next year as a larger event?
