Everyone is forgetting the clergy, always considered one of the professions. Some would add the military. And a few Freepers are confusing David Brooks (good guy; token conservative at NYT) with David Brock (evil renegade).

Teachers are considered wealthy? Remind them of that next time they whine that they are underpaid.

"For one, the choice of the word "professionals" is a mistake. IIRC, true professionals are only doctors, lawyers, and ....forgot the 3rd...lil help?"

Engineers. ;-)

Didn't Brock disclose his own, um, er, predilection?

Eh? New York? Who said anything at all about New York? Not I.

I've loathed this type of phony for decades, going back even to before attending college (at which there quite a few specimens, and it wasn't in New York, either).

No confusion between Brooks and Brock, or at least none here. I can't recall ever reading as much as a paragraph of Brock's writings directly, although certainly one sees them cited from time to time here on FR.

This is a sideways look at Isaiah Berlin's description of Foxes and Hedgehogs. Foxes digest all the details of various points of view before making a decision (if ever). Hedgehogs know one or two or a few things instinctively and can make decisions easily by means of this internalized knowledge.
Clinton is a classic Fox. Reagan a classic Hedgehog.
'Nuff said.

David Brooks, examining his upper-middle navel yet again.

The antillectuals are making the assumption that the military will continue to fight World War III for them after being stabbed in the back by the Kerryite Left.

It's a truly foolish assumption.
