SCOTT'S FISHY FURY

SCOTT'S FISHY FURY

By HOWARD BREUER

June 15, 2004 -- REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Scott Peterson hotly cursed and threw a flashlight after police grilled him about his suspicious fishing trip the day his pregnant wife, Laci, disappeared, one officer testified yesterday.

"I asked him what he was fishing for," Modesto Detective Matthew Spurlock told rapt jurors during the start of the third week of Peterson's murder trial.

"He had this blank look for a second or so, his eyes shifted a bit. And he didn't really answer the question.

"I asked what he was using for bait, and I got the same kind of response . . . this blank shifting," Spurlock said. "He couldn't really answer. Then he said, 'a silver lure,' and he held his hands about 7 to 8 inches apart."

Spurlock said that when he then asked Peterson to leave the house, he watched as the fertilizer salesman cursed through gritted teeth and threw a flashlight to the ground.

"It sounded like 'f - - -,' like it was being said out of frustration," the cop said............

REDWOOD CITY -- The judge in Scott Peterson's double-murder trial refused to declare a mistrial Monday over surprise testimony about Peterson's use of an obscenity shortly after his pregnant wife disappeared.

Superior Court Judge Alfred Delucchi gently chastised prosecutor Rick Distaso for pulling a fast one, but concluded that it was not a gross violation of trial procedure.

Also Monday, Sharon Rocha cried as she looked away from a large screen showing remains of her daughter, Laci Peterson. Minutes later, pictures of her smiling daughter splashed on the screen and Rocha quietly got up and exited the courtroom.

And two Modesto police officers said Scott Peterson seemed caught off-guard when first asked about his solo fishing trip.

Sparks flew after lead defense attorney Mark Geragos asked Delucchi for a mistrial, in a motion that drew snickers from the audience.........

Thanks so much for an excellent thread! I hope you will keep it up. I'm a CourtTV junkie, but I'm glad this one isn't being televised, (in the interest of Justice, and so Geragos strutting and preening won't get the attention he craves), but I am interested in the daily recaps and good reporting.

Thanks again.

Peterson Prosecutors Turn to Police

Peterson Prosecutors Turn to Police

Tuesday June 15, 2004 10:46 AM

By BRIAN SKOLOFF

Associated Press Writer

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors in the Scott Peterson murder trial have turned to the police officers who first investigated his wife's death, while Peterson's defense is trying to characterize the probe as sloppy and incomplete.

Two officers took the witness stand Monday in Peterson's double-murder trial, one testifying that a few items in the Petersons' otherwise tidy home raised his suspicions almost immediately.

Officer Derrick Letsinger said Monday that he didn't smell bleach and didn't notice any signs of a recent cleaning, he did say that he became skeptical after seeing a crumpled rug, dirty towels on the washing machine and a wet mop behind an otherwise ``model home.''

Prosecutors have argued that Peterson's pregnant wife, Laci, was killed in the couple's Modesto home and her body was dumped in San Francisco Bay around Christmas Eve in 2002.

Another officer, Matthew Spurlock, said there was something else that seemed suspicious: Peterson's alibi. Peterson told him he had been fishing alone on the bay the day his wife died, but could not say what he was trying to catch......

Boy that does sound fishy. Any one I know who goes fishing could tell you not just what they were using, but how they were using it, why they were using it, and how they did.

For example, Sunday night I went out for a little bass fishing near a beaver dam from 7pm-8pm. I was using 5" moss colored senko worms rigged weedless and weightless in less than 3 feet of water. I caught two largemouth bass.

This guy sure acts like a guilty man, from start to finish. I can't help but think he did it.

I do not go fishing very often but I can always remember what I was trying to fish for-walleyes, crappies, perch, etc. You use different lures or bait for your fish of choice plus you position your boat in areas conducive to catching what you are looking for. Further, sometimes you just sit on one spot and sometimes you troll. Even a neophyte knows this stuff. I assume the jurors do too. Scott should have thought about this.

Unfortunately, I don't think any of this will come into the trial...unless Snotty himself takes the stand.
