Iran seeks swap of Brits for suicide attackers

Report says 40 Revolutionary Guard 'volunteers' held by UK

Iran apprehended British military personnel and Navy vessels earlier this week in order to secure release of 40 "suicide operations volunteers" held by the UK, according to an Iranian Revolutionary Guard source.

The source told the London Arabic-language daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat that the British Army command in Iraq received the demand from the Revolutionary Guard, reported the Middle East Media Research Institute.

According to the source, the content of the message was very simple: "Release our comrades, whom you are holding, and we will release your soldiers."

"Should we believe them if they said they had no nukes?"

No, but they don't say that anyway. They claim to have them. We should believe them. I was just wondering if that article was a window into what happened in Jordan, which seems to have been blacked out now.

"Free Speech" Allows Grisly Beheading Video to Stay On Line

The last two beheadings of innocent victims by Islamic militants have been shown on the free web site pages of a hosting company called www.hostinganime.com.

Citing free speech (and now backed up by a court victory in another case), the operators of Hosting Anime continue to make available at

www.hostinganime.com/iraqnews1/index.html
the gruesome beheading video and still pictures of 33-year-old South Korean translator Kim Sun-Il.

Hosting Anime also hosts a number of other terror related sites. They include:
www.hostinganime.com/gim/GIMfaroq.htm, www.hostinganime.com/neda2/page/new.htm,
www.hostinganime.com/neda3/sout/index.htm  and www.hostinganime.com/meshawir/aljhad.html

Pictures of engineer Paul Johnson after he was beheaded are still prominently displayed on
www.hostinganime.com/neda3/sout/index.htm, and www.hostinganime.com/neda2/page/new.htm is a web site with the same design and graphics as an al Qaeda site formerly known as www.alneda.com.

There is also www.hostinganime.com/abuhagar/abuhager.htm, and www.hostinganime.com/meshawir.

Hosting Anime has also hosted other terror sites that at the time of writing were not online. They included, www.hostinganime.com/kataeb and also www.hostinganime.com/battar–dealing with the Al-Battar military camp - an on-line military magazine of the Saudi supporters of al-Qaeda.

Interestingly, there are also a couple of sites used by Sudan’s foreign minister located at Sudanese Foreign Minister, Dr Mustafa Osman Ismail, located at www.hostinganime.com/salahamza/book6.html and www.hostinganime.com/salahamza/book4.html

According to its registration information, Hosting Anime is located at 8939 S. Sepulveda Blvd. in Westchester, CA 90045. However, the building manager for that address said that  Hosting Anime is not located at that address.

In addition, the telephone number provided for that address is not a Westchester area code  – which is 310.

The Internet name registration service for www.hostinganime.com is provided by www.namecheap.com, a service operated by Richard Kirkendall. Name Cheap also lists its address as 8939 S. Sepulveda Blvd in Westchester,Ca.

Kirkendall’s mother Irma Hernandez said her son lives part of the year in France and could only be reached by e-mail, but she explained the location situation by saying that the  Sepulveda address is a mail drop she rented for her son’s business.

Both Irma Hernandez and Kirkendall’s father Sergio Hernandez said they were unaware of any connection between Name Cheap and Hosting Anime. As far as they knew their son was not involved with Hosting Anime, they said.

Hernandez said a telephone number listed for contact information functions as a message retrieval service for Kirkendall.

Hernandez said that once her son discovered the content of some of the Hosting Anime sites he cancelled the domain name. However, she said, Kirkendall was subsequently contacted by the FBI and asked to reinstate the site to help authorities track its activity. That was disputed by Special Agent Jim Jensen of the FBI Phoenix Office.

Kirkendall did not immediately respond to an e-mailed  request for information for this story, nor did he return messages left at the contact number.

There is  no listing for Hosting Anime or Name Cheap in California state government business records, and no listing in the Lexis Nexis database under either American private or public companies and international companies.

If insurgents stay true to form, other beheadings appear likely to follow and perhaps even be featured on one of the Hosting Anime sites.

However, Jensen  said he is fairly certain that no one in the United States had anything to do with the beheadings. Both Hosting Anime and Cheap Names were “used,” he said.

While Hosting Anime did not respond to repeated messages asking for comment about the group’s apparent hosting of these sites, a company official did comment on a Hosting Anime Forum site; http://forums.hostinganime.com/viewtopic.php?t=176

In that forum, Hosting Anime was asked on June 18, “Did you know your services are being used as the official web page for the group that beheaded the American in Saudi? I would hope your company is smart to remove this site from your database.”

A Hosting Anime official initially thanked the individual for bringing fact that to his attention. When the site remained on line, another letter was written to Hosting Anime, (sic) “This is ... pathetic. Delete it already. Block the freaking IP address. QUIT ALLOWING TERRORIST WEBSITES TO BE HOSTED ON YOUR SYSTEM FOR DAYS BEFORE YOU GET RID OF THEM. Block this IP, find all other ones, block them. You are American? Quit letting them spread their message unless you agree with what they do.”

He received a shocking response ( http://forums.hostinganime.com/viewtopic.php?t=176 ) from Hosting Anime.

“We will look into this manner when we have time, this is a free hosting company, and there are no profits being made, so that we can afford to sit and review all emails/abuse reports as this takes a large amount of time. Please give us time to get that done, in the mean time, please take the first amendment into consideration, free speech, just because you don't like the content of a site does that mean it should be shutdown?
“An email sent to me this morning I think is worth posting on the subject:
“‘Hey, screw those people that didn't like the site. They didn't have to go there to begin with, and whoever accused you of supporting terrorism has totally lost it. What about us who want to know why these people think the way they do and act the way they do ??? It's about communicating and I think it SUCKS that you cave to a few that would rather just throw a blanket over their head's and hope when they lift it off themselves, everything will be just fine. It makes me SICK !!’
“As stated, we will take a look into this site and see what can be done in good time.”

In response to a further complaint, the Hosting Anime System Administrator wrote, ( http://forums.hostinganime.com/viewtopic.php?t=176 ),

“Thank you for your additional comments on this matter, nothing can be done at this time, we will review the site and decide what is best.
“If you have looked at some of our users web pages, you will see that there are no banners/pop ups on our users pages, that means no income. If you don't want me to use that excuse, what excuse would you like to hear? It's either I lie to you or tell you the truth, I have told you the truth, if you don't accept that, feel free to imagine whatever you would like.”

Jensen said the FBI has no power to force a company such as Hosting Anime to remove the images. “These are First Amendment rights issues and regardless of personal feelings we just cannot shut down a site based upon our personal dislike,” he said. “People have a right to say what they like, even to the disdain of everyone else.”

Jensen would not provide contact information for the owners of Hosting Anime.

With evident frustration in his voice about how his hands are tied when it comes to dealing with this sort of  “free expression,” Jensen talked about the case of Sami Omar Al-Hussayen, a 34-year-old Ph.D. candidate in computer science at the University of Idaho

On June 10, the Associated Press (AP) reported, a jury acquitted the Saudi man of charges that he used his computer expertise to help Muslim terrorists raise money and recruit followers.

The case against Al-Hussayen, the AP reported, was seen as an important test of a provision of the Patriot Act that makes it a crime to provide expert advice or assistance to terrorists.

Al-Hussayen set up and ran Web sites that prosecutors said were used to recruit terrorists, raise money and disseminate inflammatory rhetoric, the AP reported. Prosecutors said that the sites included religious edicts justifying suicide bombings and an invitation to contribute financially to Ha-mas, a militant Palestinian organization.

However, Al-Hussayen's attorneys argued that the material was protected by the First Amendment right to freedom of expression and was not intended to raise money or recruit extremists, the AP reported.

“I hope the message is that the First Amendment is important and meaningful in this country,” David Nevin, the defense attorney for Sami Omar Al-Hussayen, told the AP.

Jensen added that it would be easier to shut down sites like those hosted by Hosting Anime if they provided step by step instructions on how to commit a crime. Even then, he said, “nothing could be done about it till something happens.”

Hosting Anime appears to host its terror sites by renting space on the servers of the Houston based Everyone’s Internet, which has hosted sites in the past for groups such as the Hamas.

Everyone’s Internet did not return an e- mail seeking comment.

This is chilling. Cheif Dallas Epedimiologist found dead.

Houston tightning up it's ports as part of new Homeland
Security Measures.

Thursday was the first day of stepped-up inspections at U.S. ports, including Houston, which for the past eight years has led the nation in the amount of foreign tonnage.

Under the new guidelines mandated by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002, officials may verify security of ships before the vessels enter ports and deny access to those that are not in compliance.

"Our plans are designed to be comprehensive and continually tested, revised and updated," said Tom Kornegay, the port's executive director.

He said all facilities at the port were in compliance with the new federal law. A security management team at the port spent six months developing a security plan that was submitted to the Coast Guard late last year.

The plan remains under Coast Guard review and has not received certification although port officials said it was expected soon.

"The Coast Guard is confident that the port authority's intense efforts will significantly strengthen security by measures to deter threats and provide a framework for response to a significant safety or security incident," said Capt. Richard M. Kaser, who commands the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Office for Houston and Galveston.

The Coast Guard will board every foreign-flagged vessel that sails without paperwork into the world's sixth-largest seaport, which also is the nation's largest oil port.

Officials are calling the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, or ISPS, the biggest security crackdown since World War II.

The port, part of the 50-mile-long Houston Ship Channel that connects Houston to the Gulf of Mexico, is home to the busiest container facility on the Gulf Coast, more than 400 petrochemical plants and two of the nation's largest oil refineries. Tankers comprise about half of the 40 vessels coming through Houston on a typical day.

The new security rules in the code require measures in place to screen crews and provide waterside security. Ships and ports must also have security plans, as well as programs to limit access to vulnerable areas.

Dirt Underwear Causes Bomb Scare

By The Associated Press
(6/28/04 - ERIE, PA) — A man who soiled his underwear and tried to dispose of the evidence by tossing it over the fence of the city's largest reservoir has been fined $5,000.

Want more? Check out the Bizarre-chives!

The city bomb squad and hazardous materials crew responded after an Erie Water Works employee spotted a black bag near the 33 million gallon Sigsbee Reservoir last month.

The reservoir was shut down for several hours while the bomb squad X-rayed the bag and hazardous materials crews waited to test it.

Police tracked down Troy Musil, 18, of Erie. He told police he'd been ill and soiled his underwear. He changed at a friend's house, then climbed over two barbed-wire-topped fences to ditch the skivvies.

Musil pleaded guilty last week to defiant trespass. The judge gave Musil a 90-day suspended jail sentence and ordered him to pay $500 a month for 10 months to the emergency agencies that responded.

If he doesn't pay, the judge said Musil will be jailed. A telephone number for Musil couldn't be found.
