This is the differance between the mighty mighty Marine Corps and the obsolete US Army (of course, take the ribbing to heart Army...:) yes, I know, we are part of the Department of Navy, but it is the Mens Department.

Nope, it doesn't stand for what you think. My initials caused me a lot of exercise in Basic. I hope that I can retain just a little of that respect you had....

Bump! The marines main task is amphibious assault, take the beach head, secure it and then turn it over to either the USA or the USN. They are the small elite fighting force that the Navy requires so that the Navy can deny an enemy the use of bases (islands, ports) in war.
The main task of the USA is to defeat/invade and occupy enemy nations. Entirely different tasks and both do thier task extremely well.

That sure seems like a waste of resources. Not only would efficiencies be realized by combining the supply lines, but you would also be able to concentrate more personnel on winning the fight!
Of course, being a low level enlisted soldier, I am not privy to all the tactical decisions. I very well could be missing some very good reasons.

I know some Combat Control and PJ folks that would be quick to differ with you on that one. They will be more than happy to tell you about folks that were prior Marines, Rangers, and Seals that did not fair well in their training pipeline. Then there are Combat Weatherman, who often spend time with guys like 5th Group.
And TACP and Security Force Folks who send folks to Sniper School and Ranger School.

No...I assume that means Birth Control Glasses. He's not wearing them...but even if he were, we all wear them. He does have quite alot of hair though. Usually portends Navy...but I have seen some Marines [non 03 types] who have a little more hair then usual.
Regardless, he isn't in the Army. BTW: His uniform is nicely pressed.

That's why I like to wear my uniform on Halloween. It's usually a big hit with the ladies! How dare you!
Former service members honorably discharged are authorized to wear the military uniform ONLY on special occasions and national holidays, (i.e. Independance Day, Veteran's Day. etc.), and Halloween is NOT one of them!
To wear the uniform for the purpose you state is disrespectful. Cease and desist this practice.

Hey Marine, I think you need to hit the OPFOR class again.

I do have a problem with the PFC on the left.
He is not wearing a single ribbon [he should at the very least have a ND ribbon[?]. And he is not wearing any shooting medals...neither rifle or Pistol. Even if he were a boot [quite possible] he would still have a shooting medal [rifle].
Of the two...the Marine on the left is unsatisfactory.

I have to disagree -- and I'm a long-term Army vet.
Our dress greens are simply ugly. The Marines have the best uniforms. I've grown so disgusted with the direction the Army has taken over the past few years (berets for all, co-ed basic training, etc.) that -- if I had to do it all again -- there's no way I'd go into the Army today.

With all the talk about the Marines (always capitalize that word) being part of the Navy, don't forget that the Coast Guard is part to the Navy also in time of war.
As for inter-service humor - here is one I like in part because it is not insulting to anyone: Remember it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.
The Air Force are French Poodles. The poodle looks pretty, sometimes seems a bit pampered, is expensive to maintain, and always travels first class. But don't ever forget that the poodle was bred as a hunting dog and in a fight it's still dangerous.
The Navy are Golden Retrievers, good natured and great around the house. Kids love'em. Sometimes their hair is a bit long. They point out and fetch the food for the folks back home. They go wandering off for long periods of time, and they love water.
The Army are St. Bernards: Big and heavy and sometimes seem a bit clumsy. Takes a lot to feed them. But St. Bernards are also very powerful and have lots of stamina and you want them around for the long haul.
Marines come in two breeds, Rottweilers and Dobermans (big and mean and skinny and mean). They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat. They can find their own food if they need to. Some people don't want them around because they are afraid of them, but you NEVER want them on the OTHER side in a fight.
To: CSM
One good reason is that the Marine like to get thier supplies, relying on another service to deliver them is not a good idea.

The Ribbing is in good sport. Maybe folks who are not familiar with the military should be exposed to the joshing that goes on. They would see the sacrifice....that sometimes, for our troops, it can suck...and they need the humor to get them through with a smile.
Nobody's career in the military is gonna go far without a good sense of humor. I have heard that said many times.
To: ma bell; Poohbah
Plus the Marine on the right has his ear plugs with him.
That one on the left is on point. Uniform pressed and starched, boots shining. Mind you he does have his cover off center but he is relaxing and apparently looking at something. Between the two, he is just as squared away.
