Laci and Scott Peterson

June 28, 2004 -- ALMOST as riveting as an Ann Rule book, tonight's A&E special, "The Trial of Scott Peterson, (A Bill Curtis Special Report)," brings us up to the second on the case that has captured the nation.

How could it not?

On Christmas Eve, 2002, adorable "five-foot nothing," pregnant-as-can-be Laci Peterson took her dog for a walk. Whether she walked into the hands of a brutal stranger or was already dead at the hands of her loving husband, Scott, is the question now facing the six women and six men jurors.

(This number is not counting, of course, the country's newest media star, bounced juror Justin Falconer who was thrown off for violating jury ethics. Why haven't they charged him with contempt, by the way — instead of letting him be flown around the country to appear on more talk shows than Bill Clinton?) .........

Peterson prosecution faces uphill climb

By Brian Skoloff
Associated Press

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- As Scott Peterson's double-murder trial enters its second month, many courtroom observers say the prosecution's case appears to be faltering.

Defense attorney Mark Geragos has used several prosecution witnesses to make his case that the investigation which led to charges Peterson killed his pregnant wife was shoddily executed and designed from the start to implicate Peterson.

Geragos was scheduled to resume his cross examination today of Detective Allen Brocchini, the first investigator assigned to the report that Laci Peterson had vanished. Last week, Geragos got Brocchini to admit to several investigative lapses.

"It's still a horse race.........

Prosecutors have been thrown off kilter by their own witnesses. A juror who was excused blasted their case.

Sure, it's been a rough week for prosecutors in the Scott Peterson double- murder trial in Redwood City, but that's no reason to panic, say legal experts. It's still early in a case that's expected to last months.

"I'm sure the prosecutor has realized that he hasn't come close to proving his case,'' said former San Francisco prosecutor Bill Fazio. "But he should start getting his act together........

Police Say Defense Got 'Missing' Details Police Say So-Called Missing Details Provided to Scott Peterson's Defense

The Associated Press

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. June 25, 2004 — Police said Friday that Scott Peterson's lawyer tried to give jurors the false impression that authorities investigating the death of his pregnant wife conspired to hide a sympathetic witness.

During his questioning Thursday of Detective Allen Brocchini, defense lawyer Mark Geragos got the man to concede that he failed to record a witness who recalled seeing Laci Peterson at the warehouse where her husband stored his small boat the same boat prosecutors claim Scott Peterson hid from his wife so he could use it later to dispose of her body.

Sgt. Ed Steele, a spokesman for the Modesto police department, said Friday that officials detailed that account in other reports provided to the defense. He said Geragos was trying to mislead the jury..........

(06-25) 13:43 PDT REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) --

Modesto police said Friday that Scott Peterson's lawyer tried to trick the jury into believing authorities conspired to hide a sympathetic witness when, in fact, police detailed the account in reports provided to the defense.

It was a blow in the short-term to the prosecution's double-murder case against Peterson because it looked like a detective intentionally deleted the witness account from his report after realizing it didn't fit with their theory that Peterson killed his pregnant wife.

But it may now work in the prosecution's favor as the trial trudges on into its second month, experts said Friday.

During his questioning Thursday of Modesto police Detective Allen Brocchini, defense lawyer Mark Geragos got the man to concede he failed to record a witness who recalled seeing Laci Peterson at the warehouse where her husband stored his small boat -- the same boat prosecutors claim Scott Peterson hid from his wife so he could use it later to dispose of her body.........

I seem to recall reading somewhere that he took Amy over to Sharon's at the end of searching that evening. He could have used the bathroom before he went home.

After that, he went with Brocchini to give his statement.

I could be wrong on this, correct me, someone, if you have other info, but that's how I meshed this info when I heard it.

I can't figure where Vandenberg AFB is on a map. Would that launch be far from Berkeley Marina?

From Court TV:

Furthermore, he testified, McGregor's alibi was problematic. A friend she said she ran into at a day spa on Christmas Eve later told police the encounter actually occurred on Dec. 23.

Ultimately, however, the detective said, he determined McGregor had nothing to do with the crime.

"In my mind, she is eliminated," he said, swiveling in the witness chair toward the jury for emphasis. "She's been investigated and I don't think she was involved."

This testimony sounded a bit contradictory and that Brocchini wasn't completely ruling McGregor out, only that he didn't think she was involved. Most likely she wasn't but this testimony could add more fuel to the reasonable doubt fire. The prosecution is going to have to come up with a little more in the way of hard evidence.

McGregor obsessed with Scott...got her friends to kill Laci?...creating reasonable doubt....It doesn't matter if she only met him on 24th, she could have observed him and developed the obsession...Sigh

Laci was already "missing". How would Kim McGregor and the Hawaiians know where to find Laci to make her go missing again?

So on Dec. 20th he planned to go fishing in the ocean south of Vandenburg Air Force Base on Dec. 23rd and/or 24th.

Hey, did everyone get that?

Yep. I heard he may have chickened out....

A loooooong way south of Berkeley. Approx 250 + miles south as the crow flies - it's near Lompoc, CA.

Let's see. His truck in the driveway at 9:49. Laci is barefoot in the kitchen with 2 mops and a bucket, after having practiced her fun flip hairdo.

She's ready to mop the floor the SECOND the word "meringue" is mentioned.

It's a relatively small floor, so it doesn't take her too long to mop and we know that she didn't put away the mops and bucket.

Then she goes to change clothes and puts on the pants she had on the night before and removes the jewelry that Scott saw her wearing while waiting for the meringue mention.

She puts on her shoes, (I wonder if she did the breakfast dishes?) grabs the leash to take the dog for a walk...

How fast can she get that all accomplished and still have time to get kidnapped?

Yeah, way far. Vandenberg is in the opposite direction from Modesto. Well, SW instead of NW.

Here is the general vicinity of Point Arguello(Arlight). You can zoom in and out to get your bearings. It's quite a ways from Modesto but who knows?

In another post, I state that the clerk may have given SP the wrong stamp. The clerk made many mistakes in issuing the license. Wrong year, wrong issue date, no name, etc. so it wouldn't be a stretch to think the wrong enhancement stamp was issued. SP definitely premeditated the trip on the water, perhaps testimony from the clerk can clear up where SP intended on going.

Actually the Ocean Enhancement Stamp was on the new license. It was a 2003 license and 2003 enhancement stamp that was issued in 2002 by what I think was a careless clerk. The Ocean Enhancement Stamp is required for fishing in the Pacific Ocean anywhere south of Point Arguello (near Vandenberg). At least while you're still in California/US waters.

RG/..They found several old licenses...I believe this one is not the license that was for the 23. 24th when Laci went missing..Click on the link Howlin gave for the pictures on CTV. Geragos introduced these to show Scott bought 2 day licenses before...
