WOULD YOU ENLIST TODAY, TO JOIN THE WAR ON TERROR, IF THE MILITARY WOULD HAVE YOU?
self | 6-29-2004 | self - vanity - poll

Posted on 06/29/2004 1:44:09 PM PDT by BagCamAddict

If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.

Sure, I'd sign up, especially if they'd let me do psyops. I'd tote a rifle if they really needed me to, but they'd really, really have to need me because I can't hit the broad side of a barn. Literally. I know, because I tried and missed.

I'm 53, my brother is 50. We contacted the recruiter after 9/11. He said we were too old to reenlist. My wife is an Army vet as well and would love nothing more than to "man" a 50 hunting terrorists.

We will go where Bush sends us tomorrow if he needs us and we will do that because we think that the only way to protect our grandkids is to hunt them down and kill them.

I finished my twenty years, thirty two years ago this October. I'm 71 and my wife is 77, we are at that age where we realize what it means in the Bible, "they two shall be one". We figure that both of us combined are almost equal to one person, mentally, physically and energy wise.

If I should reenter the Military, it is certain that after Basic training, I would become the first troop to ever arrive at the front line in a body bag.

I do have a few weapons though, and will stand up to any enemy that attacks my neighborhood, providing they don't attack too early in the morning, or after my bedtime.

I am so proud of our troops I could burst, and thank God for these gallant young Patriots. I pray for their safety , for their LOved ones and for the Victory over terrorism, that the survival of civilization depends upon.

May God Bless them one and all.

Gave 12 years in the Air Force and would go in a heartbeat. Unfortunately they say 67 is too old. I think there is something I could do to help, but then what do I know.

"Can't run as fast as I used to, but can still shoot straight."

Age 65, I can't run as far as I used to, but I can still shoot straight too!

Last month, I put 12 of my 20 shots in the "X" ring from 600 yards.

Yes in a heart beat, age 39 have a staple in my knee from surgery so they would not take me, but I am or was a great shot (though do not believe women should be in combat).

It looks like the same boat as most of us, to old but willing. If ever needed it looks like there is plenty of people willing to take up slack even if only stateside.

At my age, they wouldn't want me, but I have a lot of years of valuable job experience and would still be able to serve in an admin area.

Can I go fight Terrorism in France, the Beer and the Broads in Iraq suck. Much rather fight the French.

Oh, I better not say it. But the punchline is, I still can't imagine anyone wanting to go to france.
