REDWOOD CITY -- A ribald conversation between Scott Peterson and a woman he had just met at a trade show was so inappropriate it made one of Peterson's employees uneasy, according to the employee's testimony Tuesday in Peterson's double-murder trial. "Scott and (the woman) had a conversation that I believe was somewhat inappropriate for a married man and an engaged woman. There were discussions about sexual positions and what she liked and what he liked," said Eric Olsen, a fertilizer salesman hired by Peterson. Olsen said the steamy conversation occurred at a trade show the two men were attending at the Disneyland Hotel in October 2002. Prosecutors wanted the jury to hear the conversation, because the woman involved was Shawn Sibley, who introduced Peterson to Amber Frey shortly thereafter. Olsen's testimony marked the beginning of the prosecution's groundwork for their star witness, Frey, whom they believe inspired Peterson to murder his pregnant wife. More than a month after the dinner conversation, Sibley called Olsen with a serious question. "She wanted to know if Scott was married. At that point, as an employee of Scott's, I didn't want to be plugged into the situation going on," Olsen said. Shawn stated she wanted to set up Scott with one of her friends. The judge in the capital murder trial of Scott Peterson paved another avenue to appeal yesterday by allowing a police officer to testify about an anonymous tip, a legal expert said.
``This alleged conversation between the defendant and an anonymous caller is clearly inadmissible as evidence,'' said J. Albert Johnson, a defense attorney and former prosecutor.
Johnson was referring to Judge Alfred A. Delucchi's decision to allow Detective Allen Brocchini to testify about a man who claimed that Peterson had told him nine years earlier that if he ever killed someone, he would dump the weighted-down corpse in the ocean and let the fish eat it. .......

On Wednesday, June 23, the judge in the Scott Peterson criminal trial removed one of the jurors, Justin Falconer, and called on an alternate to replace him. After Falconer was dismissed, the defense then moved for a mistrial, but its motion was denied.
In this column, I will argue that Falconer should not have been dismissed in the first place. Although Falconer slipped up in making what turned out to be an innocuous comment to a Peterson relative, the comment itself did not indicate bias on his part, and should have been forgivable under the circumstances. .......

2:14 p.m.: REDWOOD CITY -- Stanislaus County Deputy District Attorney Rick Distaso Tuesday morning showed the jury in Scott Peterson’s double-murder trial that it is easy to leave a mistaken impression.
He asked Modesto Police Detective Al Brocchini about a tip he received from one of Peterson’s college buddies, who said the defendant in 1995 described how he would dispose of a body.
“He said he would tie a bag around the neck with duct tape, put weights on the hands and throw it into the sea,” Brocchini said, recalling the phone conversation.........

Right! One other thing that irritates me about the whole Stayner family story is the way the name of Kenneth Parnell, the child-sodomist who held Steven Stayner prisoner for 7 years, having sex with him regularly, to the point where it physically injured the boy--that guy's name is almost never heard, and he suffered little or no punishment for what he did.

No offense to Californians, but it is clear that many California girls in their 20's have a very different standard for judging what is an eligible man, than the standard which used to be common in some other parts of the country.
I've been doing a bit of reading on psychopathy...Scott has a lot the earmarks except for juvenile delinquency....He lacks deep emotions, is a con artist, manipulater, is a ladies man, doesn't form deep attachments, lies frequently, Another symptom is that he didn't take care of his business obligations...lived beyond his means?
While he could bring on the tears to neighbor, Diane Sawyer about disappearance of Laci, fake tears of loss of his mate during lie about marriage Shawn Sibley and to Amber, he seemed to miss completely the inference people would take about his continued contact of Amber after the disappearance or the emotional response from people...It shows no guilt over the affair, only fear of loss of something he wanted(living on the edge).
His capacity to really forget about the disappearance and almost certain ID once the bodies surfaced seems incredible to most people...He should have faked it better, as he is a manipulater and a con artist...
His emotional responses are mimmicked ones and perhaps he hadn't learned those...Empathy is missing. He doesn't experience fear as a normal person does, only fear of losing something he wants...then it's bound to be someone else's fault...
He must be loving Geragos's scathing indictment of the police and complaints about the media.
One thing a psychopath doesn't deal with well is criticism...and he was mad at the police, mad at the Rocha family withdrawing support, mad at the media...He doesn't feel he has done anything wrong.
Perhaps he was simply thumbing his nose and living on the edge again...Thrill of getting the car and telling the owner his name was Jaqueline!, thrill of assembling the camping supplies, getting ready for escape?...Thrill at showing the police he knew he was being followed in San Diego.
His lies have convinced so many people through his life, his charm made him so attractive to those drawn in that the hair bleached in the pool story must have been irresistable to tell to his questioning friend...(I believe they have the person who dyed his hair ready to testify. Sick lie?)...
He might only be a narcissist gone over the edge....He has a grandiose idea about who he is and what he deserves to have.
One site said the mystery to a psychopath might be that he has no soul.

For a while I didn't think he was a psychopath (not that I didn't think SOMETHING major was wrong with him, though). I knew he was a narcissistic personality.
But now that I've heard the tales of womanizing, and realized that he never stopped doing it, he sounds like a pscyhopath.
I've said this many times on here, but the very best book I ever read on the subject of psychopathy was The Mask of Sanity, by Hervey Cleckley, a psychiatrist who made a study of it. If you haven't read it and you can get a copy, get it, because you won't want to put it down!

& OJ as being similar. From my

classify them as Sociopaths, most

Well I reread some of the narcissism sites and one had the 9 types of narcissism and how they can overlap...!
I believe sociopath and psychopath are used interchangably by some..and some describe the criminal versus the "secondary psychopath".
I always had hesitated calling Scott a psychopath because of no prior criminal behavior, known juvenile delinquency. He did finish college, did open a restaurant with Laci and get a job when they moved, though he was reported to not be tending to business...
Known: He lied, cheated on Laci, used women, was grandiose, liked to indulge himself (golf membership, boat ,hotel suite with Amber just before becoming a parent)..
He did seem to love risk....His treatment of Laci as far as time away from home having an affair was selfish, risky showing no regard for her....He fooled his mother in law...I don't know if he fooled Laci.
His calls to Amber after the disappearance indicate lack of conscience or concern for Laci or for Amber....His actions about the search, the vigil, interviews...lack of conscience...Inquiries about sale of house, sale of Laci's car...very strange....One might even think he knew she was not coming back.
His new used car bought giving his mother's maiden name, filled with camping gear,food, multiple cell phones almost 15,000 in cash and his brother's ID ..signs of flight from prosecution.
Bodies washed up where he admitted he fished....thought no one ever find the bodies and/or no one would believe him to be so stupid? (grandiosity in overdrive?)
I think he was expressing what he wished for in his "lost wife" lies...and he made what he wished for come true..I don't know when the final act was planned...It could have been started by the accusations of being married complicating his double lifestyle, after he had the means of disposal (boat purchase), or 3 minutes before killing her..
.Why did he tell Amy he was going golfing on the 24th, even offering to pick up the basket, when he had bought the fishing license for the 23rd and 24th?...tis a puzzle.
OJ thought he owned Nicole and wasn't about to be humiliated... OJ was known to be abusive.
I have heard Scott used to belittle Laci, but I believe he simply wanted out of the fatherhood, married life..There is no way you can convince me he loved her...she was inconvenient, was carrying an expensive, needy baby, child support wise and was disposable...I think impending birth of the baby/need to be free triggered him...When we'll never know.
I think y'all have Scott pegged right on.!! Scott Peterson as I see it, feels absolutely NO GUILT about this horrible murder. His main concern is getting his "life back". It leaves me speechless.
I had forgotten all about her ex boyfriend (Gain?)...longtime relationship through high school and I believe early college....He is lucky he didn't kill his girlfriend, got 15 years for shooting her in the back.. "and they all thought he was such a nice guy"....
Laci got out of one relationship with a potential killer and landed in another one that ended her life ...IMHO....

I was just reading some of the summaries of those who have access to the transcripts. What is ACTUALLY taking place in the courtroom is much more Prosecution positive than the media are reporting. It AMAZES me how they always seem to take the Defense side of these brutal cases. The are very much Distorting what is taking place.

I think you made many good observations. The diagnositic terms/categories that you are referring to are antisocial personality disorder & narcissistic personality disorder. Diagnosis is a complex process that involves the collection and analysis of quite a bit of data and information. It's impossible and unethical to do it from afar.
The two disorders overlap quite abit. The central features of antisocial personality disorder (what used to be referred to as sociopathy or psychopathy)are deceitfulness and controlling/manipulative behavior. These are secondary features in narcissism. The primary features of narcissism are self-absorption and feelings of grandiosity (these are secondary features of antisocial disorder). Narcissists tend to be senstive, jealous, and overemotional, antisocials tend not to be. Antisocials are often impulsive and reckless, narcissists aren't. Antisocials often have a history beginning in childhood of law breaking, cruelty to others & animals, destroying property, and setting fires.
You can see a little bit both in the symptoms/behaviors that you discuss. There are subtypes...such as narcissistic personalty disorder with antisocial tendencies....and sometimes clinicians will actually diagnose more than one personalty disorder.
With regard to SP, I would like to know a little bit more about some of obsessive/compusive behaviors - constant checking, his apparent obsession with Amber, etc.
With regard to his deceit and "sloppiness" I would say that he probably used the same level of sophistication in covering his tracks that he used in the past. Apparently, he was successful for years in deceiving people, he just never had this level of scrutiny.
I'll answer more questions - but I don't want to go on and on....and get too pedantic. Also, remember, I'm not doing clinical work anymore, it's been a long time, but I did teach a section of abnormal psych last semester so I'm pretty current on basic info. Forensic psychologists really study this kind thing in-depth. When I was doing community mental health (years ago) I had two antisocials on my caseload, both court ordered. One had been convicted of manslaughter, the other of rape. It was an interesting experience. Antisocials & narcissists rarely come in for treatment on their own so we really don't know much about the disorders and we know even less about how to treat them.
Julie, I am just about to leave my office but wanted to address your above post. There was, I thought, some REALLY REVEALING testimony from Shawn Sibley on Scott Peterson. Scotty is one sick puppy. He gave Shawn TWO business cards. One was for Tradecorp where he worked, the OTHER one was totally bogus. It stated that he OWNED a European Company. He also told her that he was very wealthy and that he owned TWO homes, ONE in Sacremento. I can't recall if they said where the other home was but it was NOT Modesto. This was his first meeting with this girl. He already had these bogus business cards. This guy has lived a life of lies. I am beginning to wonder seriously if he has killed before. He's a pro at this all the way to having false business cards made up.

His company , Tradecorp, was a Spanish company..picking up someone else's business card at a conference and using it to lie is a possibility..
He said he had homes in Sacramento and San Diego. His world travels as told to Amber (from a tabloid, I believe) were quite exotic....old HB had line for the ladies...

As I understood the reporting from the girl that is transcribing straight from the transcripts, the Business card stating that he was the Owner of this European Company was NOT a Tradecorp subsidiary. Tradecorp, as I understand it is headquarterd in Spain!! Loretta on Misfits.com has listed the Prosecution case by witnesses that have already testified. It is extremely interesting to read what these witnesses ACTUALLY testified to. It is crystal clear that the Prosecution has a very definite plan. They are spending a fair amount of time on his "character" and for very good reason. On one side she gives the witness name and on the corresponding side, how each and every witness has undermined Peterson's character in a major way.
I don't know if a Socio/Psychopath has no soul but they certainly have NO conscience!! No Conscience is likely equatatable to no soul as well. His TOTAL lack of any reasonable emotion is because he is INCAPABLE of feeling any emotion for others. The only emotion SP Feels is pity for HIMSELF!! How bizarre and revolting under these circumstances. When you stop to think that as he was taking the life of this pregnant woman he was KNOWING taking the life of his OWN son!! He KNEW that as Laci was dying so was Connor!! Unfathomable to me.
