"WASHINGTON (AFP) - Several members of the House of Representatives have requested the United Nations (news - web sites) to send observers to monitor the November 2 US presidential election to avoid a contentious vote like in 2000, when the outcome was decided by Florida.

Recalling the long, drawn out process in the southern state, nine lawmakers, including four blacks and one Hispanic, sent a letter Thursday to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan (news - web sites) asking that the international body "ensure free and fair elections in America," according to a statement issued by Florida representative Eddie Bernice Johnson, who spearheaded the effort..."

Here's the list of the 9 Representatives who wrote to General Kofi Annan at the United Nations pleading for United Nations oversightintervention in our country's upcoming Presidential election November 2, 2004.

Thanks to B4Ranch who obtained this list by phoning Congresswoman Eddie Johnson's office in Texas.

Please alert any interested Freepers who live in the following States: Texas, Florida, Indiana, New York, Illinois, Arizona and California. It's letter writing time.

Great idea, Sal.

Do you know any Arizona Freepers who might be interested in this?

Great question and comment, Bay.

While there is a slim to none chance this band of 9 will have their wish for UN intervention in our upcoming American Presidential election, it's beyond belief they had the gall to write the letter.

I don't know yet. I'm a very recent CA escapee to northern AZ. Mike Honda used to be my elected misrepresentative. I did a search and found his opponent's name and office # on the web, and I left a message for him on the office recorder.

Unfortunately, I think Honda is pretty safe and he certainly is the one with the name recognition in that race. OTOH he and the other 6 "silent partners" haven't been trumpeting their support publically--at least not yet. Hopefully his name will be recognized in a new and more revealing light from now on.

Raul Grijalva IIRC is the rep from way south in the Tucson area where he is a great big reconquistador-wanna-be. The Rat governor in Republican AZ(Janet Napolitano) supports him in his "humanitarian" (NOT) efforts to help illegal immigrants and I hope to contribute to helping her out of a job when her time is up.

Unfortunately, I think he's pretty safe too (much more so than she is IMO). OTOH the more he and the others are exposed as acting against the interests of these United States of America, the better for us and the worse for them and other pols who support them.

At the very least, the less safe pols--those who have to appeal to a wider base, those like a gubernatorial candidate--can be asked about their support for someone who wants to turn America over to the UN. Pressure can be applied even if it has to be indirect.

I have to wonder about the voters who put them into office in the first place.
