It is a crying shame that these quarterly fundraisers have to be done. From past history, we can expect that in some days, the funds will be raised. Always have.

I have a dream.

That the folks who benefit from this site will recognize that Free Republic is not free from paying bills.

I have a dream.

That the folks who benefit from this site understand that there is no free lunch; someone pays for lunch.

I have a dream.

That that from every corner of this world from Bangor to Baja; from Miami to Montana; from Tokyo to Toronto; from Moscow to Madagascar, patriots and lovers of liberty will arise.

I have a dream.

That in the next two days, we will celebrate Independence Day, 2004, with enough monthly donors to make this the last Freepathon ever.

I've contributed hundreds of dollars to FreeRepublic, but I won't become a monthly donor. There are a lot of new people coming to this site every year. They should also be reminded that this isn't free. If we didn't have the quarterly Freepathons, they wouldn't get the same message that there are people making financial sacrifices to make this work, and that the new people ought to do their part too.

I know it's a royal hassle for the people that have to do all the hard work, but I think the Freepathons send an important message to people on a regular basis of how much it costs and that somebody has to cough up the cash to keep this running.

But, if out of the thousands, we had hundreds giving regulary, they have gotten the message, If more cash is needed beyond operating expense, then Freepathon; but every four months makes us look "fly by night."

I didn't get that feeling when I found this site. I got the feeling that it's not funded by some big company or wealthy individual, but rather by regular folks digging into their pockets on a regular basis.

You are a better person than I. I might plan to send in a check and resolve to do it; then would most likely put it off to do something else.

I find the monthly cc donation the best way to go; never had a problem with the security issue; and Jin sends me a thanks each month.

Who could ask for anything more?
