Backup electrical systems failed to kick in

A mysterious power failure at Logan Airport that delayed dozens of flights for more than five hours has still not been explained – six days later.

Airport officials insist airline security was not compromised during the blackout Monday at Logan International's Terminal E, but backup electrical systems failed to kick in as they are programmed under such circumstances.

"Don't make the mistake of exaggerating Al Qaeda's power."

Don't make the mistake of underestimating it either.

Also, remember in Instanbul a terrorist was arrested
and told authorities of his plan to fly a glidder laden
with explosives into a hotel there were President was
staying for the NATO confrence.

Glidders, Hot Air Balloons, Weather Balloons or Parachutes
are not picked up by radar.

Senate leaders urge speedy CIA nomination

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee urged the White House on Sunday to quickly nominate a CIA director, saying the country cannot wait until after the November election given the current terrorist threat.

The CIA's temporary chief, John McLaughlin, is "very skilled" and brings a lot of experience to the job, said the committee chairman, Sen. Pat Roberts.

"But he is an acting director. Yes, I think we ought to have the administration send somebody up. It's going to have to be an extraordinary pick," said Roberts, R-Kansas.

TERROR AND THE T

With loudspeaker warnings, the MBTA puts citizens on alert and wary passengers report an outbreak of the heebie-jeebies

By Deborah Fineblum Raub, Boston Globe Correspondent  |  July 11, 2004

Taped announcements warning of "suspicious behaviors" and cautioning everyone to "stay calm" ricocheted from the catacomb-like walls of the Park Street T station. My fellow travelers and I cast furtive glances at one another, potential terrorists all, even the elderly woman with the shopping cart full of -- groceries?

Sadly, we were the very same people who'd been exchanging smiles and even the occasional pleasantry minutes earlier out in the sunshine.

Since the MBTA's "See something? Say something" campaign, launched May 4, such warnings over the public address systems at T stations have become commonplace, running every 10 minutes or so day and night.

"It was weird at first to hear them, but it was weird the first time I had to take off my shoes going through security at the airport," shrugged Bill Davidson of Brookline, passing through Park Street. "Pretty soon I guess we'll get used to it."

Well it might not be something on the level of a nuclear attack that has them worried. It could be something as (relatively) small as a few bombs on trains in one city just before the election like Spain. An emotionally charged atmosphere might cause the ever-present "undecideds" to throw their vote to someone they would not have otherwise voted for. Furthermore, if whatever-it-is happens on a city-wide scale or affects several large cities, there may be great difficulty in arranging logistics for the election in those particular places. Sure the rest of us could still vote, but then what do we do about everyone else? Let them vote later, after the results have been reported for the rest of the country?

I can see some rational reasons for delaying the election. Doesn't mean I'd be happy about it though. Who's to say that under another administration a localized natural disaster wouldn't be grounds for a delay. Or under a particularly corrupt administration, that a "disaster" couldn't be manufactured to buy time for a candidate for some reason or other.

Something to ponder.

Cell Phones In Virginia Keep 911 Lines Busy

MELODIE N. MARTIN
Courtesy of Times Dispatch

Emergency calls from cell phones are plaguing local 911 centers in Virginia, forcing them to hire more dispatchers, buy more equipment and juggle more tasks.

Local emergency centers became increasingly busy in 2002 when state police handed the responsibility for the wireless calls to local dispatchers. Suddenly, local 911 centers were taking about 1.5 million more calls annually.

Thought just occurred to me as I watched FOX about threats to WALL ST. . . .

We'd be ahead to bite the bullet and block off X blocks of crucial sites and buss people in from outlying parking places

NO MATTER THE EXPENSE to build the parking lots and block off the streets.

The expense would still be LESS than cleaning up as well as dealing with the chaos after nukes in such areas.

Alas, I don't think there will be sufficient will nor foresight to do it.

Yes, 2 weeks ago a weather balloon was found in a
yard and to my knowledge, no one has claimed it.

Woodbury is fairly close to the NWSFO (National Weather Service Forecast Office) of the Twin Cities. The winds today appear quite favorable to have carried the balloon due East from the office to that area. Doubt it is anything other than a normal launch.

Thank you for the EOM post.

Please continue to post those that You feel say something.

In the past, his choice of words, have led to finds in google, it was such as this that got me started doing the
'granny' google searches.

I can't read most of the sites that they are on.

Please post all of them.

I don't know if he is real, but I do know that googling him is often a payload of info.

Dear Quix-

I was thinking about that too, but if the nuke comes from the Harbor- they need to do something different- blockade the harbor and screen all ships coming close to the city

Yeah, I believe so... I do not recall the exact information though.

Either way, Balloons are launched from every NWS office 2 to 4 times a day to take atmospheric readings for weather forecasting models.

It does make me think about the quote from Osama's Revenge though, “They also discovered illustrations running the length of the room that showed how high altitude balloons could be used to release large quantities of anthrax and bubonic plague bacilli over major metropolitan areas.”

In any event, I am pretty sure it is nothing to be concerned about.
