Republicans have Democrat Sen. Zell Miller speaking at their presidential convention, and now the Democrats have landed former President Ronald Reagan's younger son to speak at theirs.
Ron Reagan's topic, naturally, will be stem cell research. He and his mother, former first lady Nancy Reagan, along with such Republicans as Sen. Orrin Hatch, favor medical research that destroys human embryos.
"Ron Reagan's courageous pleas for stem cell research add a powerful voice to the millions of Americans hoping for cures for their children, for their parents and for their grandparents," said David Wade, a spokesman for Sen. John Kerry. Reagan, 46, will have a "prime-time" speaking slot during the July 26-29 convention, Wade said today.
Reagan told the Philadelphia Inquirer: "If they had asked me to say a few words about throwing George Bush out of office, I wouldn't do it. This gives me a platform to educate people about stem cell research."
He could start by reading a little-reported article the Associated Press offered last month, in which scientists said research on stem cells was not the priority for curing Alzheimer's and other diseases.
We have Zell Miller speaking.
They have Ron Regean.
No contest.
Did Ron P. ever vote for his father?
Ron Jr. is a major disappointment. However, his speaking will do absolutely NO damage to the Bush/Cheney ticket and will not help Kerry.
That is another interesting perspective. Sometimes, I think that Hollywood and California environment ruined a lot of kids. It didn't matter who their parents were. It is probably why actors and actresses like Dorothy Lamour, Robert Vaughn, Alan Alda and several others didn't want to raise their families in California. Red Skelton lived in Palm Springs because he said once in an interview he wanted his daughter to be a "normal teenager" and didn't think that would happen in Hollywood. Bob Hope and his wife, must have taught their kids some values because it seems that his kids turned out to be straight.
I think Ron the Lesser is wildly jealous of W. After all, they are both president's sons -- but George is president and Ron is a failure. Even his step-brother Michael is outrageously more successful than Ron. I honestly think this is all about envy, if it wasn't stem cells it would be something else. Ron the Lesser won't rest until he has done as much damage to W as he can.
Where was this punk when his father needed him?
Ron Jr. will do anything, IMHO, to get air time. At 46 he needs to grow up. Evidently, it's not going to happen.
God Bless Nancy Reagan, she has suffered enough without her son becoming part of the DEMS 3 ring circus. Doesn't Jr. "get it"? His Mom purposely did not invite DEMS to President Reagan's funeral!
To our late, great and dear President Reagan.....don't toss and turn too much about this event. You can pick your politics but you can't pick your relatives.
There won't be enough combined stem cells present at the Democrat Convention to create a cure for boredom, never mind research capablilities. He's an idiot.
You'd think the guy would quit trying to kick his dad in the nuts now that he's gone, but I guess he still feels the need.
Buckley vs. Reagan (Jr.)

Excerpt: "Buckley and his National Review magazine were in the forefront of early Reagan supporters. In his newly published "Miles Gone By: A Literary Autobiography," he paints a picture of a Ronald Reagan who "was zestfully concerned for the comfort of others." Nobody has better credentials than Bill Buckley to deliver a point-by-point rebuttal to the errant offspring [Ron, Jr.]. Those who know Nancy Reagan say she fully agrees with her old friend."
Don't forget that the late Maureen reagan was also a staunch conservative and did her father proud. Its the SECOND batch that turned out weird.
My guess is that RWR was so busy with his political career that he didn't give as much time to the latter two as he should have - then again, they are children of the 60s, when rebellion became the swanky thing to do. To be fair to RWR and Nancy, this has probably more to do with how they turned out than any of RWR's failings as a father.
Feel sorry for Patty in particular - she's wasted her life - no kids, no contribution. At 50 a couple of years ago she fessed up that she should have sought a man "like my Dad". But by then, (family wise), it was too late. And she was cute as a youngster, too. Knew that marriage to that Yoga instructor would not work.
We should be proud...we are being quoted on the Pravda (the Communist Rag):

Wake up! It is done in a petri dish or test tubes, not in a uterus.
Excuse me???
