Organizers have announced some of the plans for the welcoming into San Diego of the newest ship to homeport here, the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan on July 23rd.

A huge crowd is expected, including about 3,000 family members of the ship's crew and two very special guests, former First Lady Nancy Reagan and the late president's son, Michael Reagan.

U.S.S. Ronald Reagan host committee spokeswoman Faye Eason says the day's festivities will be capped off with a spectacular fireworks show.

As the hometown station for its arrival, Newsradio 600 KOGO is providing continuing live coverage, including weekly live call-ins from the ship by the Commanding Officer of the huge aircraft carrier, Captain Jim Symonds. Listen for his reports every Friday morning at 7:05am on Newsradio 600 KOGO.

KOGO will also provide special live reports from on board the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan on its final leg to San Diego in July.

On July 23rd, the day the new ship arrives in San Diego, Newsradio 600 KOGO will have live special day-long coverage from on board the ship and from various locations along San Diego Bay.

Floratina, I don't know the time of day, yet, but will monitor the local news for further info. If you live in or near San Diego, you might consider calling KOGO radio station, since they are doing heaving coverage of the ship's first homecoming and have a reporter on board.

The story can't be true - It's one of the 7 carriers off the coast of China. /sarcasm (Despite the fact that they haven't been able to pry the Kitty Hawk away from the pier for her planned participation in Summer Surge.)

I think the only way Slick Willy gets an aircraft carrier named after him is if the Dems retake congress. While that's bound to happen someday, I hope it's so far in the future that Slick Willy is little more than a dim memory and the last person anyone would think of when naming a ship.

Here you go (if someone beats me to it, won't hurt to have it twice). By the way, it is a great image:

The ship will sink from all those people aboard rocking with laughter — grin.

Michael Reagan was on KOGO radio this morning saying Ron P. will not be there. Check out what I wrote about this at the top of the thread. Also, given the nature of the event, I doubt Mrs. Reagan will bring up anything political. She has too much class. She and Michael will be there to honor THE MAN, President Ronald Wilson Reagan.

I'm excited about the Reagan's first homecoming and wish it was on Saturday instead of Friday so I could be there for the open house.

It is really sad and sickening that Patti and Prescott can't/won't attend this in honor of the father. Or in support of their mother. Personally, I am glad they won't be there. But, I would imagine it is hard on their mother. I am so proud of both Michael and Nancy. I also think it will be really good for Nancy. I am personally looking forward to seeing her. God Bless Nancy. and Michael!

You're wrong. I heard Lil' Ronnie will be taking part in the ceremony with an interpretive dance routine.

I'm glad for Nancy that she's going out to do this.

Wish she'd asked around for a different escort.

What's the point in Ronald P. Reagan showing up for this, after all the trashing he's done of the ship's namesake.

Regarding the captain's quarters and use of the word "stateroom," that was my description. If I didn't use precise Navy or shipping terms, please forgive my ignorance.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPS.

I misread the name of the son who's attending.

It's very appropriate that Mike Reagan is escorting her and honoring his father.
