REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — With only a few days until Amber Frey takes the stand in Scott Peterson's double-murder trial, she has told her family that she's tired of being dragged through the gutter by people who know nothing about her.
Smut king Larry Flynt has insinuated she's a prostitute. Trial observers expect her to be portrayed by the Peterson defense as a harlot who pursues married men, and possibly as a participant in Laci Peterson's murder.
In an exclusive letter to The Post and Fox News Channel, Ron Frey says his 29-year-old daughter is proud of the choices that led to her having two children out of wedlock.
"The other day I asked her how she was holding up and she told me, 'It's so hard to hear myself criticized by people who don't know me, especially when they take issue with my being a single parent. But you can choose to remain a virgin until you're married, and then never be asked. Or you can have consensual sex and get pregnant. Then you have two choices: terminate the pregnancy, or thank God for the blessing. I've chosen to give thanks for the two wonderful children I love very much.' "
Frey wrote that his daughter's words "brought tears to my eyes. I hope everyone .............

REDWOOD CITY -- Lawyers in Scott Peterson's murder trial Wednesday argued over previous testimony that defense attorneys said shows a detective lied on the stand.
Judge Alfred A. Delucchi had planned to discuss a motion on that issue and other matters behind closed doors, but appeals from media lawyers resulted in a public debate.
In the process, Delucchi revealed in court -- without the jury present -- two topics at issue: whether a detective fabricated parts of his testimony and the admissibility of television interviews Peterson took part in before his arrest..............

Attorney Mark Geragos has been picking apart the case as an exhaustive search for hard evidence that turned up nothing incriminating.
In a barrage of sarcastic questions last week, Geragos forced Hendee to acknowledge at nearly every turn that searches of San Francisco Bay yielded nothing to link Peterson to the killing of his pregnant wife, Laci........

REDWOOD CITY -- Modesto police Detective Allen Brocchini declared early on he was going to catch Laci Peterson’s killer.
"I probably told that to everybody," Brocchini testified during Scott Peterson’s preliminary hearing. "My intent was to catch … whoever got Laci."
The case, defense attorneys suggested, became personal for Brocchini -- Laci Peterson and her fetus were dead and someone had to pay.
Defense attorneys claimed the detective even told friends of the couple he was going to "take Scott Peterson down."
Brocchini denied making the statement, but acknowledged he tried "planting the seeds of suspicion" with friends and suspected early on that Peterson did the deed.
Now, with Peterson’s double-murder trial entering its eighth week, Brocchini has become a flash point as defense attorneys try to sidetrack the case with attacks on Brocchini’s character. .........

Scott Peterson's defense attorney staged a dramatic courtroom demonstration Thursday to try to discredit prosecutors' contention that the fertilizer salesman molded cement anchors to carry his wife's body to the bottom of San Francisco Bay.
Holding a block of cement found in Peterson's boat and the plastic water pitcher that a detective had suggested was the mold for the weights, defense attorney Mark Geragos showed that the two didn't match -- the pitcher was easily larger than the weight, was shaped differently and had a dimple the concrete block lacked.
It was an awkward moment for police Detective Henry Dodge Hendee. He had testified Tuesday in the Redwood City courtroom about how police had found the pitcher with cement residue in it in the warehouse that Peterson used in Modesto, but he admitted Thursday that detectives had learned at some point that it wasn't the mold.
Some courtroom watchers said it was also a victory for Geragos in his effort to persuade jurors that Modesto police and Stanislaus County prosecutors focused solely on Scott .........

Scott Peterson was posing as a rich bachelor when he took up with masseuse Amber Frey — who went to police after she learned her lover had a pregnant wife who was missing.
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Amber did it. That's what Scott Peterson's defense is expected to argue when prosecutors call their star witness in the double-murder trial: Peterson's mistress, Amber Frey.
Several legal observers believe defense attorney Mark Geragos will try to portray the young single mom as so desperate for a husband that she helped kill her rival, Scott Peterson's pregnant wife, Laci.
"Geragos has already tried to lay the foundation that Amber Frey was somehow involved in Laci Peterson's murder," said Dean Johnson, a former San Mateo County prosecutor who is following the trial.
Geragos has already grilled Frey's pal Shawn Sibley - who played matchmaker for the Modesto fertilizer salesman and Fresno masseuse - about when the women first learned Scott was married, and not the rich bachelor he pretended to be.........

Of course men are "complicit," by definition. They follow the course of least resistance.
Throughout the history of our culture, women have understood that they are a "civilizing influence" on men. When women give up that role, men are far more likely to be "uncivilized."
One of the biggest ironies of the women's movement is that, in the name of "equality," young women are being conditioned to behave like the fantasies of the most selfish, irresponsible men. Making themselves easily sexually available, with no strings, and no responsibility placed upon the men. How can they be so stupid?
By the way. For the others on the thread, this was just an aside. I was just struck by the stupidity of Amber's remark.
I agree that it has no bearing on the credibility as a witness. I think Scott is guilty, and I hope he "Freys."

I want to hear VERY SOON that they've put into evidence many more of the things that we have found out--things that strongly point to guilt. No. 1 on my list right now is the sign Scott made. (You've seen it, haven't you? It's very eerie.) In it he speaks of Laci as one would speak of the dead.
And then they'll play the Sawyer interview in which he referred to her as being "at peace".
And in closing arguments, the prosecutor MUST take those two statements by Scott, the sign, and the Sawyer remark, and tie them together, and ask the jury, "WHO is at peace? The dead!! To WHOM would you speak when they are not physically present? The dead!! WHO might you 'feel' has answered you when they are not physically present?? The dead!! And ladies and gentlemen, he said these things in JANUARY, full THREE MONTHS before the bodies were found!"
Must have been, and we are still feeling the effects!

I think Geragos has a plot to put the jury into a coma with his detailed cross, repeating and questioning each tiny bit of testimony and search action ..whether it is important or just monotonous...He wanted to be sure the jury understood the police found nothing in the bay despite massive searches, (therefore implying Laci was never there?)
I think the policeman will be back with the sex offender/ parolees investigation report so Geragos can imply they obviously overlooked likely killer of Laci, did a sloppy investigation, withheld this from the defense, another red herring.

By the way, I totally agree with your take on the "at peace" remark. As a matter of fact, when you so correctly pointed out that the dead are at peace, it gave me the willies.
I completely agree with you about the so-called women's movement. There certainly is a rich irony there, which you have aptly pointed out.
A further humorous irony is found when we consider that so-called feminists have repeatedly pushed passage of ridiculously nitpicking laws which purport to control how men and women treat each other. I will resist the urge to say that these "sexual harassment" laws are an attempt to push heterosexuality into a closet.
But the irony is that these "free-thinking feminists" come off sounding like overly-straitlaced Victorians. They appear to be worried that a man might somehow harm an unescorted woman by speaking to her without the proper respect. I can't help but laugh when I think how they have painted themselves into a corner.

IMO, Amber's father is kind of flaky.
The fact that he prefaces his public statements by saying, "I do not speak for Amber, nor for her attorney" tells me that they are trying very hard to rein him in.
He sounds like he wants to hog center stage. Sorry, Dad, this ain't about you. Period. And, come to think of it, it ain't really about your daughter, either.
I don't think so right at first maybe after a few days but not right away.
I was just reading the interview with Detective Allen Brocchini and there were a few things Scott said that you can just hear the loathing for Laci in those statements.
Here are the comments that perked my ears up.
1. In talking about the mop bucket Scott says: "Yeah she's, ya know, 8 months pregnant, ah can't pick it up for anything.".................................. ............................................"Yeah she wasn't about to lift anything heavy. "
These are the words someone who feels used would say. He probably felt he was always hearing, Scott do this for me I am pregnant. Scott do that for me, I am pregannt.
2. In talking about what coat Laci might have worn if any. "She usually steals my stuff. "
What husband would ever accuse his wife of stealing his stuff just because she wore it?
3. The phone rings during interview:(On the phone Amy, what's goin' on Amy? Yeah. Oh I don't know, where you at now? In front of my, our house..
There was nothing wrong with saying (my house,) I do it all the time, but he immediatley changed it to (our)
4. Telling Brocchini about the number of calls on his phone:
"Okay. Mine, three were three, two from me and one from Ron, her step-father, asking for whipped cream when we came over that's when I said hey man, he's calling (me) for whipped cream."
Already he is thinking he is the only one around.
5.When ased how long Scott and Laci were married. "So you were married in '97?" Scott says, I believe so.
They were only married 5 years and already he can't remember the year they were wed.
Yep! I think Scott hated Laci.
Right.
Who had the motive? (Maybe more than one person.)
Who had the means? (Maybe more than one person.)
Who had the opportunity? (Probably only one person.)
But WHO HAD ALL THREE? Only one person.
LOL! Wasn't that the funniest sound coming out of such a big guy?
I got the willies when I read that sign he put up to thank the volunteers! I remember others here had seen it, but I hadn't. They were all commenting on how weird it was. Then I saw it, and boy were they right!
Not only the references to telling things to Laci--as I might "tell" my dead parent something--but the reference to "early this morning." Kind of like she came to him when he was half asleep. Like a dream.
And to top it all off, his signature really rings bells: can't use his name, instead he signs with the very distant "Laci's Husband".
He was once again "keeping the focus on Laci", as he kept saying during the interviews. "I'm nobody, pay no attention to me, I'm only relevant because I was the husband of LACI." He wanted to be invisible. He was HIDING--not only from Amber, but from suspicion.
Oooh, good catch about the whipped cream message! I hadn't thought of that.
Yes, I also noticed how vague he was about how long they'd been married. I wrote it off as a guy thing, but he didn't even appear to try to remember.
As an aside, I also think Scott found her step-father intimidating. I can't help but wonder if the invitation to Sharon's (where he would encounter not only Ron, but Ron's mother and sister) was a source of anxiety for Scott.
Laci's mother said she'd asked her about 10 times to commit to coming over on Christmas Eve. Finally, on Dec. 23, Laci says yes, and... next thing you know, boom! Laci's gone. I wonder if Scott had adamantly refused to go, and perhaps that was why Laci had refused to commit: she knew that she couldn't go w/o Scott b/c she was afraid they'd all feel sorry for her coming alone, and it would make Scott look bad, which means she'd have to defend him, etc.
And suppose he was still adamantly refusing to go... and then he hears Laci on the phone, telling her mother, "Okay, we'll come"? Bet it made him mad...
It sounded so weak! As though he were trying to assure everyone that HE wasn't this big strong person who could kill a small pregnant woman!
Reminds me of the ending of "Psycho" in which Norman Bates, who has "become" his very formidable mother, says, "They'll see! I'm not even going to swat that fly! They'll say, 'Why, she wouldn't even hurt a fly!'"
I have to disagree with this statement. I believe Scott killed Laci to be free from marriage.
Scott would have soon left Amber, moving on to another affair with yet another woman.
Not only did he not want to be married anymore, he did not want to be a father either...
He was hoping for infertility...
He was thinking about getting a vasectomy because Amber's daughter would be enough for him....
