Eating our own...Time to make a new start in Free Republic.
7-26-04 | Bob J

Posted on 07/26/2004 7:41:11 PM PDT by Bob J

The last few months I've seen an increasing trend for FReepers to start going for each others jugular. Sometimes we forget (I've certainly done it myself) that in the grand scheme of things, we are on the same team. We may disagree on priorities or how far we are willing to go, but we have enough enemy in the left without creating more amongst ourselves. We can disagree but be civil to each other. We can debate nuance, but not believe that our personal positions are more important than the health of the whole. Let's argue vigorously but remind ourselves the guy whose trachia we are ripping out today may be sitting next to us in a foxhole tommorrow.

I'm going to propose that we all make a new start. Let's put all past differences behind us and resolve to band together and fight the good fight, the elimination of liberalism as a significant culturual influence in America...and see that to its end in our lifetimes.

If you agree, please post your thoughts and ping your lists and your friends to this thread.

Does that mean let's be nice to trolls, stealth "progressives" and the myriad "I used to be a staunch Republican, but...", and "I can't vote for Bush this time because..." morons?

And it does seem to be true that discussions in the old days were more civil. Points of fact were debated, and early documents were quoted often.

You must have missed the really early days, when FR first started. We were constantly under attack by the racist, white supremacist, neo-nazi's etc. That word war was to save the site. JR was banning as fast as he could, but many helped to save our reputation. Yeah sometimes certain people get a little uppity about spell check and sometimes people make mistakes. But as always the way to stop the nusance is to not reply.

Actually, it's Mr. Dumas. Like in that commercial where the guy is applying for the job, and he goes, "Mr. Dumass, I would LOVE to work at Dumass and Dumass, because the man I look up to is a Dumass". And then the guy looks are the applicant and says, "That's Dumas."

Can you explain to me how BobJ got his original date. Mine says 1999 and I was here almost from the beginning. I know as FR was upgrading some of us lost our original dates, but how do we get it revised.

For example some Conservatives see abortion as a major issue but others are fiscal Conservatives but not social-issue Conservatives --- so we're going to argue. Arguing doesn't have to be bad or ugly though.

Exactly. That's normal and to be expected. But I think that we all need to vote GOP - most especially in the Presidential race (preferably straight ticket GOP, imho). I sometimes have to hold my nose for some of the GOP, but I vote for them. I do practice my tagline. Every DemocRAT that we can get out of office/power, the better for ALL GOP.

Those that threaten to withhold their vote for Bush because their PET issue isn't being processed like they want Bush to, THOSE are the ones we need to get onboard, imho.

I have no idea. I've been a member since September 25, 1998, but I don't really know much about getting old credentials back for edited profiles or anything like that.

vote GOP - most especially in the Presidential race

I can't even believe that would be a question. Standing together on that is a given. However, I would vote for Zed Miller over some RINO. I'd vote for an independent that stood for conservative causes and the constitution over a RINO on the GOP ticket. Unless of course, the candidate didn't stand a chance and the race was tight and the race mattered so much that a RINO beat the heck out of a liberal MISSION.
