Thirty-eight years for a frat prank is a bit much...she did a stupid, and wrong thing, but it is hardly worthy of a longer jail term than most murderers get.

She deserves far longer, for the damage she has drought to the troops. Funny or not, she has not helped anything but the opposition.

38 years? Are you serious? We treat our soldiers more harshly than criminals in the US. Recently a man who raped a 12 year old girl got 60 days in jail (no doubt from a liberal judge). She is not innocent but 38 years?

PFC England is getting a possible 38 years for putting panties on the head of terrorists.
Sgt Akbar kills two US officers and wounds 14 and his lawyer is trying to get a mistrial on a technicality.
Something is out of whack here.

38 years is far too much for this kind of offense for one so young.
I'd give her a BCD special and send her back home. No jail time and lost honor is sufficient.
No one was hurt. No one is dead. They don't give that much time to serial murderers in some courts in the US.

This is about as much out of line as what she did.
And yes it is a bit much.
But I think a POINT is being made. A big POINT!!!
She just happens to be on the other end of that point!

Kerry got nothing for his what he admitted doing in Nam, maybe if he would have stripped some Gooks and put underwear on their heads, he would have been taken seriously.

Her punishment should be no greater than what Sandy Berger gets for his stealing classified documents.

I believe what the article fails to mention, is that some of the charges are sexual misconduct type charges. It would be extremely hard to prosecute on the prison guard charges, since she was, allegedly or not, doing as ordered. On the other hand her sexual misconduct charges would be very hard to defend against. If they threaten her with 38 yrs, on some very hard to defend charges, this would essentially force her into some kind of a plea bargain.

Too bad for Lyndie she's not an illegal alien. Illegals in Illinois can molest a 10-year-old girl and merely get deported, rather than do jail time.
38 years is excessive. What she did was wrong, stupid, and damaged our mission. 5 years sound about right.

The Courts Marshal judge can give her anything up to 38 years. I think when it is over you will find that she doesn't get much more than 3-5 years.

If it were up to me, she would get a commendation instead of condemnation. Turning up the heat on the prisoners was a valid tactic that could have generated worthwhile information.

She's the one on video. But what about the ones running the cameras? And those responsible for running a proper military interrogation center?
A lot more heads need to roll than just this one stupid cow.
Her offense is more serious than it would be in the civilian world. Her actions have provided a propaganda victory to our enemies and former allies (like France) and might lead directly to increased recruiting of terrorists and attacks on honorable soldiers who do serve conscionably.
She requires severe punishment.
Twenty years in the stockade. And adopt the child out because she is, prima facie, an unfit mother.
