I am a swing voter

Posted on 08/12/2004 12:05:29 AM PDT by Lepidopteran

I am a swing voter, neither Republican nor Democrat. I supported President Bush in his response to September 11 and I supported the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. But I like John Kerry's message about the need to do something about the people in this country who have no health insurance. It's a hard choice.

I'm a swing voter too, though I haven't pulled a vote for a Democrat since 1976.

Starting & operating a small manufacturing business, creating family supporting jobs, including covering employees' health insurance, even when you can't pay all of your own bills tends to give ya an interesting perspective about things...

That said, if people feel it necessary for government to get into the business of health care, it can be done better at the state level than it can at the federal level.

Why is it the governments job to take care of you? If politicians would stay out of private business we would all be better off.

Gee, a kind word. Thanks. I'm not sure if I will stick around though. My skin is thick enough but I don't need this kind of abuse. I will look elsewhere to help make my decision in November.

First nervous post fellow FReeps. Wish me luck!

Lep, What is your age in general? Have you honestly listened to President Bush on medical saving accounts?

Unless you are near retirement age, the $5000 a year he proposes adds up nicely, and accumulates year to year. You can also pass it on to your dependents. Tax free.

What you are asking is for someone else to pay for your insurance for you. In that case I would propose that with each and every paycheck you receive, you and all other Americans be forced to go cash the entire gross in hard currency. Then, be forced to watch as the cashier turns and redistributes your hard earned money to the people on the other side of the cage, until you are left with the net.

Which side of the cage do you honestly want to be on?

True, true.

I think that this calls for a classic Byrd-skewering, courtesy of "Meek" and his brilliant photoshopping capabilities.

When I attended benefit meetings at work, I was amazed at some of the silly reasons the people had for going to the doc. My God, people, fluids and plenty of rest is the cure for your cold. No charge for the advice. And, if you do have to go to the doc, for crying out loud, look at the bill, it's probably wrong and overcharging your company's insurance. I needed stitches once from a work accident, I got the bill and by the time I finished with the billing clerk, the bill went from $600 to $220.
