THE PROBLEM WITH GOVERNOR MCGREEVEY’S ‘STRAIGHT TALK’ [2002 Article]
Atlantic Highlands Herald ^ | May 2, 2002 | Gordon Bishop

Posted on 08/12/2004 6:38:21 PM PDT by Koblenz

Governor James McGreevey was elected on his campaign theme “Straight Talk.”

The problem with McGreevey’s “Straight Talk” is that “straight” is a cover-up of what he really is.

There is really nothing “straight” about Jim McGreevey. His voting record in the State Legislature and as Mayor of Woodbridge is one of tax-and-spend liberalism.

Now, he’s done an about-face and is preaching like a conservative Republican about cutting Big Government.

If you believe that then you might want to buy some wetlands in Florida for development.

Those who know McGreevey intimately know he is not “straight.” It’s just a word he uses to make him appear exactly the opposite of what he is.

The big question the media avoided asking during the Governor’s race is why McGreevey’s first wife divorced him and moved to Canada with their only child, a girl who’s now nine years old.

Why wasn’t McGreevey’s ex-wife and daughter at his inauguration at the pinnacle of his career, while two weeks earlier Mike Bloomberg’s ex-wife attended his inauguration as Mayor of New York City?

The liberal media has trouble asking hard questions about liberals and their positions and their pasts.

What voters and taxpayers should be asking is, “Will the real Jim McGreevey please stand up?” We’d all like to know who you really are.

There are those in the State Legislature and in Woodbridge where McGreevey served as mayor in the ‘90s who know where McGreevey’s coming from. But they don’t like to talk about it – “straight” talk, or otherwise.

Why? Because no one in today’s politically-correct society will go where McGreevey has gone or ask him about it because, well, it’s just not PC.

So Jim McGreevey’s hypocritical “Straight Talk” – his message to “the people” – stands as is, until only Jim McGreevey is willing to stand up and come clean about who he really is.

As Jerry Seinfeld would say, “Not that there’s anything wrong with that!”

As a life-long journalist who deals in facts, and reality, I simply want to hear from Jim McGreevey. I don’t want to hear it from others about the Jim McGreevey the general public doesn’t know. I want to hear it from Jim McGreevey himself.

The liberals and their cohorts in the media know how to play the game. Bill Clinton was a master at the art of obfuscation and fooling people with words that had no meaning, such as “is” is not “is” or “alone” is not “alone.”

It must be a liberal thing. Use as many words as you want, but never, ever say anything that communicates a true meaning, like “Straight Talk.”

What is “Straight Talk?”

My understanding of “Straight Talk” is that you know exactly what a person is saying.

Not so anymore. Even a cliché like “Straight Talk” has lost its meaning because of the political spin-meisters.

I realize, at this point, that trying to fathom the meaning of real words that take on other meanings becomes confusing. But that’s the name of the game today, especially in liberal politics.

“Straight Talk” no longer means “Straight Talk,” as “oral sex” to Bill Clinton no longer means “sex.”

Then what it is?

Anything you would like it to be.

If all of this sounds ridiculous, or insane, then it is. It’s what us professional writers have to deal with, live with, everyday.

Shakespeare, the master of language, said it hundreds of years ago: “Nothing is but what is not.”

Never hold a politician to his words, especially in today’s politically-correct environment. Because words today no longer mean what they mean. It’s what the spin-meisters want them to mean.

So much for language – and the real world.

We should start a pool on who will be the next Democratic politician to come out of the closet. I'm thinking Edwards. Have you seen his wife? She has to be a "beard."

OH, no! He "knew." But....how?

Seems it was inside knowledge for quite a while. Which would hint that his wife probably knew, too. "Don't ask; don't tell"?

He knew. So did a lot of other people. The entire piece is a double entendre stating that Gov. McQueery is a fag.

As a life-long journalist who deals in facts, and reality

Not many journalists can truthfully make this claim, huh?

These rumors were going around about Jim Thompson in Illinois for a long time. Too bad they never caught him if it was true, RINO scumbag.

The journalist knew exactly what he was writing about. Everybody who followed politics in the state knew the situation.

For the media to call this a bombshell is such a hunk of shit. They all knew that he appointed his boy toy to be the state anti-terrorism chief after 911, though he had absolutely no qualifications that could be demonstrated outside a gay bath house.

But the media didn't share it with the dumb jerk electorate, because he was a Democrat and it was none of their business.

And the NJ Republicans didn't share it because they didn't want to appear "intolerant" or get shut out of any mafia contract money.

And the NJ Democrats didn't share it because their the mother of all corrupt scumbags.

In the end, it was up to the c#*ks*#king boyfriend to tell all in a hissy fit.

So the governor had to run out and pretend to be a victim. But there's so much dirt on his knees, he's going to prison whether he likes it or not. I hope he doesn't like it, but we all know he will. You just won't read about that in the papers either.

That would be inappropriate.

What is really sick about this country is that the next terror attack will come from somone who snuck across our borders and not one politician will do anything to stop the flow. I hope they all lose their jobs after the attack.

The guy engaged in criminal conduct and he should be in jail. He should resign effective tomorrow. How much will it cost the state of New Jersey to fight the sexual harassment lawsuit? He placed his boyfriend in well-paid state jobs in exchange for sexual favors. Disgusting conduct no matter if it involved straight or gay sex.

I have heard many opuses by politicians, but the Jersey governor gave one that is a new low. Self pity, smarmy, self victimization, how his "hidden" inner life made him so much more in tune with that which he should and needed to be in tune with in the public square, and of course a lie, because none of it was the real reason he is resigning, albeit resignation at a date that precludes any new election. He is resigning not because of any of that (which is ludicrous), not because his lover tried to blackmail him, and is going to sue him, not even because he gave his boy toy numerous jobs for which he was totally unqualified (plus one he tried to give but the heat got too great), and for which he did no real "work" other than servicing the governor, but because he criminally accepted bribes, and will be indicted for that, and presumably convicted, and jailed, in due course.

That's my take.

That's my take.

Mine too. I just have more vitriol about it, after 40 years of dealing with NJ politics.

Today's little press conference was machiavellian, in many more ways than one.

Somewhere deep beneath my cynical skin, I'd like to believe that his problems might be the key to opening a few more locked closets - not in the gay way but the corrupt way.

I don't think McGreevey will take all the fall if he can sell some info on Torricelli, for example.

Maybe that's too lofty a target. There's a few hundred lesser lights of corruption he could sell out first.

I typed my rant before I read yours in post number 15, which had the same theme, albeit with considerably more literary talent (no surprise there). And neither of us is really known on this site as ranters. But apparently we both have it within us. :) After all, we are human, and certainly stimuli tend to make humans vomit. It really isn't our fault.
