After Crossfire and Hardball Tonight, is There Any Question Remaining? The Media is the Real Enemy.
The Media is the Real Enemy ^ | 8-12-04 | Bob J

Posted on 08/12/2004 9:40:42 PM PDT by Bob J

On the 5th I posted an article title The Media is the Real Enemy - Watch Media Reaction to the Swift Boat Vets Story and be Convinced!. After observing what has happened since and in particular the performance typified by Crossfire and Hardball tonight, is there any question remaining that our primary activism objective needs to be defeating the media hegemony that nourishes the beast?

I've been involved in FReeper activism beginning way back with the March for Justice in '98. I now believe my energies have been nothing but shadow boxing. Every single action that we have undertaken against groups or individuals can trace their existence to an adoring dim media that creates them, props them up and then protects them from damage through propaganda, misdirection and lies.

I think it's time we redirect our efforts to the source that creates, sustains and drives liberalism.

Comments and suggestions?

Speaking of hateful serpents, Estrich screeched throughout the interview with the O'Neill, on Hannitty. It was impossible to hear what he was saying.

I emailed Hannitty congratulations to Estrich for selling Unfit for Command. Since I couldn't hear him, I guess I'll buy the book.

Then I bought one.

How can I help?

SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

JOHN KERRY ON 911

John Kerry ran for Congress in 1972

Kerry lost that election and became very deeply depressed.

Kerry's next political and professional move was to withdraw and stay home for six months making model airplanes.

Kerry has criticized President George W Bush on 911 for spending seven minutes in a classroom after hearing the second terrorist highjacked jetliner struck the second World Trade Center tower.

John Kerry was in Washington DC on 911 watching the terrorists attack the World Trade Center on TV.

What did Senator John Kerry then do?

"And as I came in [to a meeting in Sen. Daschle's office on September 11th, 2001], Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid were standing there, and we watched the second plane come in to the building."

"And we shortly thereafter sat down at the table and then we just realized nobody could think, and then boom, right behind us, we saw the cloud of explosion at the Pentagon."

"Nobody could think". -- Sen. John Kerry

It should be noted that the second plane hit the World Trade Center at 93 a.m., and the plane hit the Pentagon at 9:43 a.m. By Kerry's own words, he and his fellow senators sat there for forty minutes, realizing "Nobody could think".

When America was attacked on 911 Sen. John Kerry "could not think" and sat for forty (40) minutes paralyzed and impotent and unable to physically or emotionally or mentally function!

US Senator John Forbes Kerry said he "was stunned" and just sat down for forty (40) minutes unable to do anything at all!

Leadership!

"More thoughtful" and "more sensitive" leadership!

Not too "swift" John!

I like your theory that the center needs to be moved, and what better way to do it than through changing the propaganda machine (a/k/a 'the media')? Fox News and talk radio have shown there is a market for right-of-center news programming, and I doubt that demand has been tapped out yet.

The rub, of course, is how to do it. Conservatives still own talk radio; I doubt there's much more that can be done in that particular medium to advance the cause. Seems to me the focus ought to be on changing television news reporting.

Alas, my own experience has been that there is not (or was not) sufficient interest among conservative activists to mount any kind of sustained effort against Rather, Jennings, et al. Do you agree, or no?

The assault on the mainstream media ought to be two-pronged: (1) assault their bias head-on; and (2) push for alternative 'slant' in their reporting...the classic stick and carrot approach.

BTW, whatever happened to CCRM? I see the web site is still there, but it appears that nothing has been added to it since 2003.

This is a good time to re-focus on this problem. Good luck finding enough support for a particular strategy. Herding cats, and all that, ya know...??

"...Talking Points laid out clearly on all the topics we cover here. Permanent threads that are easily found by everyone. Such as, Swift Boat FACTS, Social Security FACTS, Lists of lies from pols, Ntl Debt Facts, etc."

That reminds me of the book "The Vast Rightwing Conspiracy Handbook," by David Smith, I believe. My 16 YO daughter got it for Christmas from one of her friends, and I loved it and got my own copy. It has talking points and factoids to shut the liberals up, all in one convenient little book. It's a bit on the thin side, but it's a start!

Here's an idea I had that might be possible to affect the media.

With CFR, there is the I think thirty-day period in which us regular citizens cannot buy airtime or print ads to support our political causes. This leaves the newspaper news coverage (and its bias) and the opinion pages as the sole "advertising" during this time.

The papers wanted it this way and were in support of the CFR laws.

My idea is that 31 days before the election (or is it 61?) we have a massive number of people cancel their newspaper subscriptions citing the reason to the effect of: CFR wanted to make sure that none of us were influenced during the election cycle by external influences, so we must cancel our newspaper subscription.

Of course it needs to be more well-described to people, more pithy, and we would have to get a significant number to cancel their papers during this period, but it could make a powerful statement. We would need Rush, Hannity, Boortz, etc to make this happen.

Note: People could still buy the papers on the newstand during this period, because I've heard they don't count for advertising rates that way.

At least I'll be able to say I did something.

Cheers for you. You get the President Bush "Citizen, not Spectator" award for the morning! It is doing something that makes all the difference. Glad you are helping, we all need to do as much as we can, even if that just means not accepting the lies when they are presented to us, just to get along. The lies must be challenged with facts.

The media panders to corporate ad execs (their real customers) who are artistic types trained in Hollywood and Madison Ave.

And when it comes to controlling Hollywood or artists in general, is it any surprise that conservatives (who use the rational side of their brains) are truly clueless ?

"Bob, you must have missed O'Neill's excellent H&C appearance, and Hannity's dismantling of Jeh Johnson -- who then repeated his boob-like performance on Fox & Friends the next morning. Just a total washout for Kerry. "

And Buchannan's O'Neill interview on Scarborough Country or Brit Hume last night on Fox around 6:45 eastern. He wasn't taking any crap off the democrat panel member.

Carville's rant will do more damage to the lib cause than will help. The people who are diehard libs could care less how Carville acted. Anyone else with a lick of sense could see the difference between the way he acted and the way O'Neill handled himself.

The media vitrol this election, plus a trip to the Dem HQ in my town to get a Kerry sign (for alteration) has promted me to volunteer at the Republican HQ and try my hand at fund raising. Except for a couple of FReeps I've been a quiet conservative in my daily life. The media has changed my attitude towards that and hopefully others feel the same way and will contribute to the cause in ways they have never done before.

Chris Matthews' adieu (his mug contorted with a vile, self-satisfied, smug look that said, "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED") was even more telling than his so-called "debate" last night between John O'Neill and Kerry's nasty, lying, demagogic vet lackey, even given Matthews' outrageous false premises and circular reasoning (as well as his usual big-mouth short-circuiting of anti-"D" argument).

Matthews' shameless performance was about more than met the eye, I believe.

On his previous show dealing with the swiftee ad and book, Matthews expressed doubt about Kerry's version of events, allowing for the truth of the charges....

The Kerry camp must have gotten to him.... The 180-degree flip in mindset must mean that no less than Matthews' career was on the line....

For a start, I would suggest boycotting Matthews and boycotting MSNBC (including its component parts, i.e., NBC + Microsoft).

If everyone disgusted with the media enemies of America would boycott them, they would rapidly disappear. I am trying to do my part:

That's a truly good idea.

A database of organized info, documented, with a logical, easy way to naivigate it.

I can't tell you how many times I want to reference an event or article, and I know the information peripherally, but finding the exact thing is nearly impossible.

i totally agree. i think it is a great idea. if i am engaged in a debate with someone about some topic, i have often wished for a compendium of FR threads citing sources on the topic. sometimes i have been lucky enough to find it, but Humidston's idea is an excellent one. it would better organize us for battle, IMO.

The point is, how can we fight it.

The MSM has admitted that they want Kerry elected to the Presidency (gosh it was even scary to type that).

So at the grassroots, what do we do? Because I am ready to start doing it.

I've been writing letters to the Washington Post and the New York Times but none of them have ever gotten printed, even though I've been polited but insistent about their bias.

It is ingrained in their DNA. Liberalism is as innate as having brown eyes, dark hair etc. What fuels liberalism further is our affluence as a nation. The wealthier we are the more these whiners want. It's a gimme gimme mindset. The way to kill it is to have small government period.

Thank you for all you are doing.

I wish I had the time to do the same but it just isn't possible at thi spoint in my life.

I am however, neighborhood captain for the Bush-Cheney campaign, and since I remember all the lawns that Gore signs on them, am targating those neighbors with my special brand of conservatism.

I also plan to start holding neighborhood "election information parties" and get both Pubbies and Dims in the same room, for the purpose of helping to "educate" the Dims.

That is about the extent of what I can do.

So thank you for your Internet activism. I think it is really important to do because where else can we so pro-actively counter the lying, biased MSM:

We also need to know who finances these people. What conglomerates buy time to sell their products. We need to boycot the products. Hit them in the pocketbook. I do not buy anything made in france, though I love their cheeses. I do not buy anything made by heinz. We need to make a list of all of her holdings and boycot. Get them in the purse and they will become "blievers" thought they don't agree with us.

As I understand the payroll of some of these "mouths" they don't make thousands, some make millions, ie cute caty curic and diane sawyer, plus others.
