Foxx wins Fifth District Run-off.
Maybe this race should be a wake-up call for the Republican Party to move back to the right, and stop pussy-footing with the Democrats.
Vernon Robinson was an absolute class act tonight. He called Virginia Foxx and went over to her victory party to concede, congratulate her and encourage his supporters to work as tirelessly for her and they did for him.
I want to thank all on this board who were helpful during this very hard fought campaign. As someone who was very involved with the race, I want to follow Vernon's lead here and extend the olive branch to those Foxx supporters on this board and lurking about.
You all have every right to be proud -- it was a hard fought campaign and victory and every bit of excitement you all must feel right now is well-deserved.
I wish Virginia Foxx nothing but the best and am hopeful that she has a productive tenure in Congress.
Now we need to make sure that Dr. Jim Harrell is defeated in November.
Buchanan and Tancredo don't represent conservative thought. They represent racist and xenophobic thought. If Robinson accepted their endorsement he has only himself to blame.
I'll take Buchanan and Tancredo over the RNC and Republican hierarchy anyday. I do not consider record deficits, $10 billion to bail Africa out of ITS A.I.D.S. crisis, and open borders (read the posts on FR about all the incidents of Middle Easterners flooding across the Mexican border) as conservative policies.
Buchanan wrote a piece about the race but to my knowledge he did not endorse Vernon in this race. Cong. Tancredo did endorse Vernon and I am sorry that you disagree with Mr. Tancredo and Vernon on his immigration position.
Thing is, though, you might disagree with Vernon on this position, or any other, but there was never any ambiguity about that position.
Again, I'm sorry that you disagree with him, but his concern about illegal immigration comes from the national security and economic security concerns that ran rampant in the district and indeed, in the nation. In some areas of the district, 80% of kids registered in some schools were illegal immigrants. Congressman Walter Jones (who also endorsed us) just had an article reported today about the number of illegal immigrants in the North Carolina prison system.
It is just wrong to label Vernon a racist on this issue or any other. Clearly you don't like him and that's fine. But howsabout we put this stuff aside and concentrate on defeating Democrats.
The race is over....support the winner and go after the RATS.
I would never refer to Vernon as a Buchananista..thats pretty low. Further I dont think he is anti GOP.
Time to move on.
I don't know anything about him except what I read on the Tancredo website which is a front organization for Pat Buchanan (Bay runs it).
It would be comparable to a candidate being endorsed by the KKK. In case you haven't heard, Tancredo has been warned by Tom DeLay and thrown out of the White House by Karl Rove with instructions not to ever come back.
Mr. Robinson may be a very fine man, I don't know, but people are judged by the company they keep, and anyone associated with Buchanan has serious political problems.
I sure as Hell did! I never voted for him and I'm getting pretty darned tired of getting what someone else deserves!
Alright, bayourod, I have just gone through the longest year and a half of my life. I have known Vernon for 10 years now. For those of us who cared deeply about this race, not only for Vernon but for conservative principles as a whole, you are doing nothing but throwing salt in the wound.
As a Robinson supporter, I offered you and other Foxx supporters an olive branch. No matter how many times you want to slap it out of my hands, I am going to wait out your desire to gloat and continue to call him names.
There are Democrats to defeat. Let's focus on that.
I feel your pain.
You have never lived until you try to reason with a clinton worshipper.
You will have more success putting the fires of Hell out by pi$$ing on them than getting a democrat to admit to the truth about clinton.
In 1976 former California Governor Ronald Wilson Reagan conceded defeat to President Gerald R. Ford in the Republican primary. Reagan was portrayed by the press as too extreme, out of the mainstream and dangerous in that he might cause a nuclear war with the Soviets. Sometimes he spoke of truths that made people uncomfortable. For the most part, the GOP establishment and party leadership did what they could, behind closed doors, to downplay (or in some cases undermine Reagan). They supported Ford, who, after all, already had the job, was a pretty decent guy, fairly presentable, and not likely to be as irresponsible on social programs, taxes, and defense as the Democrats. Ford was also not a true conservative by any measure, and in fact continued the advancement of some of the liberal trends of the 60's during his administration. The rest, as they say, is history.
Virginia Foxx fought and won a tough primary and has pledged to fight for conservative principles. We need to give her our support, but also hold her to the commitments that she has made. It's now time for unity, but with eyes wide open. It is my sincere hope that Senator Foxx will put our concerns to rest regarding her background and will serve with honor in defending life, marriage and free speech, supporting the defense of this country, working to reduce taxes and the size of the government, and to protect our borders, our language and our unique American culture so that we can remain that Shining City on a Hill.
Congratulations to Virginia Foxx!
Last night I saw Vernon encourage 300 of his volunteers to get behind Virginia. I saw him hold up a Virginia Foxx sign. I saw him go visit Virginia and congratulate her. I watched him the rest of the evening, with a Virginia Foxx sticker on his lapel, speaking to groups of his supporters, encouraging them to work for Virginia and conservatism.
I saw a man with dignity doing the right thing.
Let's follow Vernon's example by putting it all behind us and working together for conservatism in congress!
You, and Robinson, are class acts - hope the victors have as much class.
I doubt you are a personal friend of Ballantine because you spelled his name with an "E" and not with an "A", the second A in the name. I learned to spell his name. Have you?
You will probably regret Foxx's win in that district. Too bad that you did not see the light before.
Start a write in Campaign for Vernon Robinson-if it fails to get him elected and throws the victory to the Democrat, things won't be much worse than they already are. The other candidates, the Democrat and the Rinocrat are as alike as peas in a pod.
What does spelling have to do with friendship?
And just so you'll know, I am a friend of Patrick's.
Ballantine yard signs will be available about mid September. What county are you in?
