Kerry: Cambodia Mission Top Secret

John Kerry's presidential campaign claimed on Tuesday that his Christmas 1968 mission into Cambodia was top, top secret - and that's why there are no documents that verify the implausible claim.

"During John Kerry's service in Vietnam, many times he was on or near the Cambodian border and on one occasion crossed into Cambodia at the request of members of a special operations group operating out of Ha Tien," Kerry spokesman Michael Meehan said in a statement. But Meehan told the Boston Globe that there was no paperwork to confirm the claim and he could not supply a date for the incursion.

What's more, two of Kerry's crewmates who enthusiastically back his candidacy and who served with him on missions near the Cambodian border insists the crossing never happened.

Michael Medeiros, who served on Swiftboat No. 94 with Kerry and appeared with him at the Democratic National Convention, told the Globe that Kerry and his crew chased an enemy to the Cambodian border - but stooped there. He could not recall dropping off special forces in Cambodia or going inside Cambodia with Kerry.

James Wasser, who accompanied Kerry on the Christmas mission aboard Swiftboat No. 44, said that while he believes they were "very, very close" to Cambodia, they did not enter the country. "It is very hard to tell. There are no signs," he told the Globe.

A third crewmate who opposes Kerry flatly accuses him of lying about Cambodia.

"Never happened," Steve Gardner told the Globe, insisting they never came within 50 miles of the Cambodian border.

Why do I get the feeling this guy thinks running for POTUS is like trying to pick up chicks in a bar?

To him it is. Last chick he picked up got him five free houses. If he becomes president, he gets another one.

An additional question: If Porter Goss, who Bush has nominated to head the CIA, was found, through the confirmation hearings to have made up a bunch of lies and stories about his service, like Kerry has, what would the democrats do to his nomination?

In addition to your addition --
If John Kerry joined VVAW as the result of his epiphany during this double-secret mission, and the double-secret mission did not exist, does the epiphany still exist?

If a democrat falls flat on his face but no one will admit it, does he still break his nose?

Sarcasm.
It's fact that Kerry submitted a request for another medal based on his secret mission into Cambodia.
He currently tries to line up participants and witnesses by jogging their memories.
He claims that up to now such services have been kept secret.
The medal request apparently is on fast track to get a positive decision prior to elections.

Isn't that the same excuse given by SEAL wannabes when they get busted?

Yep.

"Errr, my records were top secret, um, purged since it was a black on black op."

Any purported SEAL who tells you that is lying.

Check them out with the folks at AuthentiSEAL or VeriSEAL. They have complete rosters of all real SEALs and they want to hear about phonies.

If it was "top top secret", then it probably still is classified

I was wondering about that myself. Of course, after 30-plus years, wouldn't it be declassified now? And if so, wouldn't it be verifiable?

I'm still waiting for Kerry to show us the magic hat. Not to descend to the level of name-calling, but I am beginning to think that Kerry is a liar. No, let me add some nuance to that: You bet I might think Kerry might be a liar.

Show us the hat, Senator Kerry.

'Extra double special maxi ultra top secret'

That's pretty secret, but not having gone to Nam, I think Tippy top secret is only eclipsed by Tippity Top Secret.

John Kerry did NOT spend Christmas of 68 in Cambodia...

Because he was here -- looking for a wife!

Your post indicated the "hat" story Kerry related has been debunked. (The one where a secret CIA operative gave him his hat on one of these "secret" missions) Can you share details or pass along a link? I hadn't heard that one.

To me, that's the link that has to be pursued here. If he has a physical artifact from these secret forays, cough it up and show the world.

He claimed he carried it around in his briefcase as a lucky charm. Let's see it.

Also, let's hear from Kerry himself a response on this and let's hear what these secret missions were. Sending out a spokesman who you can say got it wrong later doesn't cut it.

The conservative media needs to continue to pursue this story. It will unravel as more information comes out and Kerry will be exposed as making up a lie to cover up a 30-year-old lie.
