"They were led on a leash. Our self styled 'friends' having been working for several decades, I deem, to dismember Russia."

What 'friends' are they talking about? Any ideas?

I'm just speculating it's Iran, and he mentions "counties" in the plural.

I noticed via stories here on FR that the Russians immediately and publicly played kissy face with the Israelis. That may give some hints.

Remember there were reports about jordanian and Syrian passports.

Thinking of it, he might be refering to Syria. Iran gets Syria to do some of its dirty work (for money, I'm sure.)

Maybe we could let the Ruskies into eastern Afghanistan to clean out the rats nests.

Oh, I'm sure they will be brutal and, in their own heavy-handed way, efficient. But since the Russkies wear chain-mail gloves, what happens when they "take the gloves off?'

What kind of monster thinks he's a tough guy by killing little children in school? It's time for the world to take out this kind of trash once again. Go get 'em, Putin. Tell us what kind of help you want and need.

From my link in #43:

Most of the attackers were Chechens and Ingush who had been trained at Al Qaida camps in Afghanistan.

The 10 Arab nationals came from Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Syria, officials said. They said security forces seized notebooks in Arabic in the school taken over by insurgents. Officials said survivors told authorities that some of the captors spoke Arabic during the three-day hostage ordeal.

Sounds like the usual suspects...

Russia, Israel Agree on Anti-Terror Union Posted on 09/06/2004 8:11:12 AM MDT
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday that Israel's renewed offer to share its experience of combatting militant groups, in the wake of the Russian school massacre, would give a boost to the fight against global terror.

Speaking to Israeli opposition leader Shimon Peres at the start of a whirlwind day of meetings with officials in Jerusalem, Lavrov said terrorism is one of the biggest challenges facing the international community.

"We appreciate the very strong readiness of the Israeli people to help Russia at this hour and this will certainly strengthen the counterterrorist coalition these days," he said.

In a telephone call to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday, Prime Minister Sharon called for expanded intelligence coordination between the two countries.

Whirlwind? Reads like the FM rushed to Jerusalem, why would he in a time of crisis? Maybe a Syrian issue involved...

The reporting went that these terrorists called the New York Times.
With whom did they talk, what was said or exchanged?
Will we be informed, did Putin intercept the call?
Questions, questions only the NYT can answer.

Just a guess here, but I know Russia and Georgia have been close to war - I'm thinking Putin could use this as an excuse to pursue an agressive policy against Georgia. I sympathize to the utmost with what happened to the Russians but given Putin's history, I don't trust him to not use this to pursue a ruthless and agressive policy that has nothing to do with the current massacre.

I recall a few years ago when kidnapping was in style. The Moslems were kidnapping quite a few foreign nationals including American citizens. As I recall, when they kidnapped a Russian diplomat, the Russians found out who was responsible and they killed all their relatives and mailed their private parts to them. After that, the Russians were safe.

One wonders what the future will bring?
