Texas Vietnam Veterans Soliciting Donations?

I just received a phone call from an organization which is soliciting donations on behalf of disabled Vietnam veterans in the Texas area.
The call was somewhat suspicious because, when prompted for their affiliation with any political groups, their response was "We're completely legal. So, once you've confirmed that we're completely legal, you'll make the donation?"
I said I would make a donation if I could confirm that they were not connected to any anti-Bush groups, such as MoveOn.org, etc. Once I made this statement, I immediately got a "Have a nice day. Click."
Does anyone know if this group is related to that Texas group which is attempting to push anti-Bush propaganda? Is the money actually going to help disabled vets, or would it be used to finance anti-Bush propaganda?
TOPICS: US: Texas; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: donations; soliciting; texas; veterans; vietnam
They claim to be mailing a packet of info to me, but I thought this should probably be vetted quickly, before some less paranoid folks make immediate donations by credit card.

Contact your State Attorney General, Secretary of State, and other offices that deal with phone fraud. Find out more about them.

I'm not sure. That's why I posted this thread. I vaguely remember seeing something about some Texas veterans who were planning to counter the Swiftboat TV ads. I've been extremely busy for the past couple of weeks, so I'm not really sure what's going on.
If anybody has an answer, I'm sure somebody around here will.

As a matter of fact, they gave me the number of the State Attorney General's office. However, will the State Attorney General's office know anything about connections to MoveOn.org or other leftist swamps?

Texans for Truth I believe (a George Soreass production) Now we're getting somewhere! That is the group I remember reading about. I'm wondering if they could be soliciting donations on behalf of "disabled veterans"...

Never, EVER, give money to anybody over the phone, even if they're being held hostage.
Most phone solicitations for charity are phony.

Ha! This mega-paranoid FReeper doesn't divulge any personal information over the phone. I most certainly wouldn't give out my credit card # over the phone, even to the police if I was being held hostage!

Never, EVER, give money to anybody over the phone, even if they're being held hostage. Darn, there goes my "Hello, are you a liberal? Can you send money right away so I can battle the evil Republicans?" telephone fundraising idea... Thanks a lot!

I've received plenty of calls from Disabled American Veterans before. This was a different group which specifically localized itself to Texas. I never got a direct answer when probing for the organization's name. I just kept getting something along the lines of "on behalf of Texas veterans."

Does anybody know how to perform a reverse lookup on an 800 number?

Go to www.anywho.com or go to google enter the number it the search bar, lump all the digits together. You could also just call the number back.

AnyWho and Google struck out, so I called the number. I got a recording which announced itself as "Texas Vietnam Veterans", and yet another 800 # to call during business hours. Google and AnyWho also struck out on the 2nd 800 number.
