Pollsters say 20% of Russians would like Kerry to win

MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax) - Every fifth Russian believes that Democrat John Kerry's victory in the next U.S. presidential election would benefit Russia more than the success of any other candidate, and 13% of Russians would like George W. Bush to be re-elected, pollsters said. Fourteen percent of those questioned in an August survey said Kerry and Bush stood practically equal chances of winning, the ROMIR Monitoring group said.

ROMIR said 33% of Russians did not expect any of the candidates' victory to be in Russia's interest and that 20% were undecided.

ROMIR said a substantial proportion of Russia's population was interested in the U.S. election and that people with average education standards and average income levels made up the bulk of the group. ROMIR questioned 1,500 people

Do people in other countries really care about our presidential elections? I find this hard to understand because most Americans couldn't care less about the leaders that other countries elect. Certainly, I can't imagine a poll in the United States about a presidential election elsewhere in the world. In fact, I doubt that more than 10% of Americans can even name the president of Canada or Mexico, our two closest neighbors. Why the apparent obsession in other countries about our presidential elections?

If 20% of Russians wish for Kerry, doesn't it mean that 80% want something else? The Spin makes me dizzy.

This is interesting... I received a lengthy email off my website from some deranged Canadian the other day who kept telling me what a fool I was for buying into "America's conservative lie" and that "most of the world wants to see President Bush thrown out of office..."

I kept thinking ... "Hmm ... if our enemies don't like him, then he is definitely doing the job right."

The Russian poll solidifies my thoughts...

Heck, that settles it as far as I'm concerned.

Henceforth, in the interest of multicultural diversity and inclusive fairness, any Democrat that a minority of Russians vote for must immediately be declared President of the United States.

I doubt more than 10% even know Canada doesn't have a president.

Well, to be fair, there are fewer Communists in Russia than in the US.

Just like the unemployment #'s, 5.4% unemployed. That means 94.6% employed.
Nothing wrong with that average.

2 questions:

1) Who give a flip WHAT foreigners think about our elections? THEY are not voting for OUR president.(Unless they are Mexican illegals in CA)

2) Why is this even considered news?

These polls are asinine at best...when was the last time an American was polled about whether we'd prefer Tony Blair, Schroeder or (ugh) Chirac?

Dumb, dumb, dumb...

This means that 80% of the Russians DO NOT want Kerry as President.

Well, America is the world leader. The super power.
I'm in Ireland. What happens in America has a knock-on effect on our economy etc. Of course the world should be interested. Now I couldn't care less about a presidential election in some splinter Eastern block nation (well, I probably would - but that's only because I am interested in global politics). But I'm fascinated by American and UK politics, (and am interested in the machinations in Europe because of Ireland's EU involvement), because those are the nations whose decisions impact on my country most.

Is this poll implying that 20% of Russians actually even know how Kerry is?

I'd say that Kerry has a bright future--as the President of France.
