WASHINGTON It was the first public allegation that CBS News used forged memos in its report questioning President Bush's National Guard service a highly technical explanation posted within hours of airtime citing proportional spacing and font styles.
But it did not come from an expert in typography or typewriter history as some first thought. Instead, it was the work of Harry MacDougald, an Atlanta lawyer with strong ties to conservative Republican causes and who helped draft the petition urging the Arkansas Supreme Court to disbar President Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Los Angeles Times has found.
is Ann a babe or what ?
Im throwin a jammie party for Ann, Laura, and Michelle next Sat nite. Wanna come?....just kidding ;0)
...and therefore the Rathergate memos are clearly genuine!
It's really amazing that a "conservative" would post a message on a "conservative" website. I really can't believe it. Must be a conspiracy.
Is there any way liberals or any media types can trace our IP address? If any more Freepers "break" news in the future, like Buckhead, can we remain secret? I've been concerned about this.
LOL...i'd be there
If this is true, then hooray for ourside!
Christ on a crutch! There is really only 2 major parties in the US! Do ya think a dumocrat woulda blown the whistle? Sheesh!
Excellent point! Just under a month ago, Congressman John Boehner, whom Gingrich was speaking to in that conversation, won a judgment against Former Congressman "Baghdad Jim" McDermott, who leaked the recording of the conversation with to the more-than-willing New York Times.
Cool your jets. It wasn't a high-tech search. The Times pieced together his identity based on the content of his postings, and, as it turned out, the Times lawyers were familiar with him in the first place because he aided FR against the Times-Mirror Co./Washington Post suit against Jim Robinson.
She's a babe *and* what...
*cough*
I'm not sure ANYTHING you say will get you out of this mess.
An attorney..
Hmph..
"You're traveling through another dimension,
a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind;
a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are
that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead-
- your next stop . . .
The Twilight Zone!"
How many editions of MicroSoft Word are in use?
Every owner knows intuitively the Rather memos were created on MicroSoft Word.
Looking forward to the Los Angeles Times' Compendium of MicroSoft Word users.
Crickets.
Slick work!
This Kerry campaign and the media inspire us
Funny thing is comparing Watergate to Rathergate look how quickly Buckhead nailed CBS and how long it took W & B at the WP
FR got several notches on it's grips these last several days
MSM and libs cannot handle PJ People
Think of the bucks Soros and Heinz have burned
Think how much it cost to expose Captain Dan
Rather ridiculous........
This is excatly why when some people find stuff they keep their mouth shut. They know as soon as they say something people are gonna start digging into their background & try to smear them so bad that no one would take therm seriously.
On the other hand with buckhead I'm afraid they are gonna go well beyond the usual smear tactics this time since so many that have reviewed the docs in question after him are saying it's bunk as well. I believe they will try their best to destroy him publicly & privately.
At least thats how the democrats do it here in Louisiana. Bets wishes to you buckhead & I'm sure we will all do what we can do to help you if ya need.
[the famous Post 47]
Howlin, every single one of these memos to file is in a proportionally spaced font, probably Palatino or Times New Roman.
In 1972 people used typewriters for this sort of thing, and typewriters used monospaced fonts.
The use of proportionally spaced fonts did not come into common use for office memos until the introduction of laser printers, word processing software, and personal computers. They were not widespread until the mid to late 90's. Before then, you needed typesetting equipment, and that wasn't used for personal memos to file. Even the Wang systems that were dominant in the mid 80's used monospaced fonts.
I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old.
This should be pursued aggressively.
ah yes, so VERY technical!!
Why not just come right out and ACCUSE Buckhead of beinf the author of the documents!! He obviously must be if he can come up with such "a highly technical explanation".
In other news Dan Rather was a honorary speaker at a DNC fund raiser for John Kerry. . .
They are all written by the same guy -- Peter Wallsten.
