I agree there was probably some semblance of collusion. However, we need to put on our scholarly, unbiased hat on if we are to have an impact on the commission.

However, some of us are mulling over whether of not to mention the net sales angle at http://wizbangblog.com/archives/003652.php as a kind of place marker for the investigative alphabet soups if it gets that far. If you follow those links, it is pretty telling re the "Bath" mention which is in the USA Today Memo versions.

Unfortunately the key Newcomer analysis at http://www.flounder.com/bush2.htm clearly confirms from the spacing analysis that the "111" are not lower case "LLL" but actual numbers. Actually, when mentioned it is pretty clear as numbers are uniformly and somewhat wide spaced, but "lll" (as in lower case L's) are proportionately spaced and much tighter together as in "lst". Thus, that section had to be rewritten to accommodate that additional information that the one's in the heading are clearly numbers.

If you have some edits that you would like to suggest, please let me know as we had to redo some of the links anyway.

Regards, Dick

Sent E-Mail to Jim some time ago and never heard back. Figured he was busy.

Will obviously try again, but no sense bothering him again since if we do not get around 30 signatures we are not going to send it to the Investigative Committee in fairness to those who do sign.

As you know, CBS has just appointed two people to the Commission that is to look into the documents matter. They are former Atty Gen Dick Thornburgh and former AP executive Lou Boccardi.

Wow! They're going to have a "Commission" look into it. That will really help everyone toward the truth. People here aren't quite so naive. The truth has been obvious to most people here since the buckhead post, or maybe a few hours after that. This wasn't a mistake. It was intentional; not by some underling, but by Dan Rather, the Mapes lady and CBS News management. Think your commission will say that?

I am sure that this is a very impressive document. I am also sure that I will never read it. 20 pages? ack, ack,

Some people like detailed reports some don't. Don't take it personally if you don't get the overwhelming response you hope for. It's not that I am not behind you, I just don't read reports unless I am being paid to read them. Sadly, I suspect people at CBS will probably ignore it as well, even though they shouldn't.

Are the CBS Forgeries and Free Republic both Moribund?

Excerpt (from comment post #1):

As you know, CBS has just appointed two people to the Commission that is to look into the documents matter. They are former Atty Gen Dick Thornburgh and former AP executive Lou Boccardi.

Concurrently, most of you know that the Free Republic CBS Memo Forgery Project has just completed a major effort running some 20 pages. This includes:
* Conclusions and Recommendations (shown below in blue and red)
* Main CBS Memo Forgery Report (pages 1 to 10)
* Executive Summary (pages 18 to 20)
* Technical Appendix MSWord Overlay on a forged CBS Memo (pages 14 to 16)

We are now thinking that the time is close to sending it to Thornburgh and/or Broccardi. Alternately (or concurrently), we may also want to send it to the CBS News Division with request that they forward it to the newly established Commission in the interest of a full and fair review of this matter. We could also ask them for a response.

We would tell CBS, and Thornburgh and Boccardi in the cover letter that the Project Report is (1) a definitive, scholarly work primarily intended to establish that the documents in question are forgeries, and (2) recommends certain actions that the Project authors believe must be taken to restore CREDIBILITY to CBS and its news division. And, that we believe that the Commission is a first and right step in this process.

Before I raise some questions that we now need relatively prompt Freeper attentions and effort, the key section is the Conclusion and Recommendation shown below .....

Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my General Interest ping list!. . .don't be shy.

I'm sorry to see you're discouraged. This looks like a good idea that has been overlooked due to information overload. We're being deluged.

I have one concern about the aftermath of all this. The forgery was discovered because CBS posted the PDF files on their web site. I suspect that CBS will be tempted to stop publishing the documents and revert to their former practice of flashing an illegible picture of the documents on the TV screen for a moment, or have a reporter wave some papers in front of the camera, saying "CBS has obtained these secret memos..." That would effectively prevent future Buckheads from embarassing them again.

Instead, we should demand that CBS - and the rest of the news media - increase the amount of evidence they post on-line in order for us to independently verify their reporting.

How many more forgeries would be uncovered if we could see all of the documents the networks claim to possess?

As for getting in contact with the review panel, I'd suggest contacting Brent Bozzell. He'll know how to do it.

Perhaps you missed Pharlap's excellent three page Executive Summary which was specifically designed for MSM types and executives who don't read long reports?

But, there were so many good points raised by the many people who contributed, that we really did need a ten pager detailed report to cover the 51 excellent points discovered by the effort.

Just tell me what you want me to do. Why can't this go in the mail to Thornburgh? He'll read it.

The GOP Research division came out with a Chronology that looks pretty good, but they missed the collusion with the Boston Globe and the New York Times.

We have some credibility now since everyone in the country knows FREEPERS started the ball rolling in investigating the Rather forgeries. I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't get the door opened at CBS by simply calling the news division and saying that we have a written report we want to submit to the investigating panel. Maybe use Buckhead to call or write on his letterhead.

My guess is they'd pee in their pants and be very cooperative and respectful at this point. They can't afford another week of thousands of emails criscrossing the country about how they won't accept our report and testimony.

I'm afraid you have a bit of a misunderstanding about how FR works, and its function.

But putting that aside, I FReep every day, and this is the first I've heard about this.

And your communication skills could use some work. I read your vanity at the top of this thread and only vaguely understand what it is you're trying to accomplish.

Most folks would have to dive for the dictionary to figure out what 'moribund' means, as one small example.

But anyway, good luck.
