Hispanics threaten California boycott over license bill veto

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Angered by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's veto this week of a bill to allow illegal immigrants to drive legally in California, Hispanic leaders and pro-immigrant groups are organizing protests and a national boycott of the state in their campaign to win the licenses.

Supporters of the bill, which was approved by the Democratic-controlled Legislature, said the Republican governor will pay a political price for reneging on promises to reach a compromise. They charge that Schwarzenegger belatedly added a demand that such licenses be specifically marked to differentiate them from licenses held by U.S. citizens and legal residents, a suggestion many said would encourage discrimination and persecution.

"If this is the posture the governor wants to take, then our community is going to be forced to kick it up a notch," said Nativo Lopez, president of the Mexican American Political Association and Hermandad Mexicana, based in Southern California.

Lopez, who led a one-day state boycott in December over the same issue, said he will organize a national boycott to drive convention business away from such popular destinations as San Diego, Los Angeles, Anaheim and San Francisco.

I am willing to bet that you obtained your citizenship legally and/or without threatening the public harm thru intimidation and 'blackmail'? ;-)

The system has worked for those who are prepared to use it, howeverm as long as employers are not punished for using illegal workers or until we once and for all resolve our immigration issues/nightmare, we have a mess on our hands.

I don't think we are in a position to give licenses to anyone anywhere anytime without better security checks (which are dang near impossible anyway) or that a different color marking or such on a license is going to make a wit of difference either in the long run.. Even Arnie should realize that.

Either do it right or don't do it at all, imo. As well as the past half-baked amnesty plans and such that seemed fine in their time but we are post 9/11 now... and can ill afford to continue to stress this nation anymore than it already is financially and socially.

The rest of the country should boycott Californicate until
they get serious about the illegals that are flooding the state (and country). Once the ilegals are returned to their country of origin then maybe we can call off the boycott. My money is on Ahnold caving in.

What do you mean that you support IDs? That you support them the way Arnold wants them, or what?

"Logistically, we have the support to do this," Spence said. "This issue is hot, hot, hot, and with paid signature gatherers ready to go, we're going to do it."

Let's hope so! I'm getting REALLY tired of this! I sent in about 40 signatures last time... and I'll get them again, plus a few.

" They charge that Schwarzenegger belatedly added a demand that such licenses be specifically marked to differentiate them from licenses held by U.S. citizens and legal residents, a suggestion many said would encourage discrimination and persecution."

Just got my latest ATFE newsletter.

One of the articles is on the Tennessee "Certificate for driving".
It warns gun dealer that the certificate is NOT acceptable as a valid identification for the purpose of buying a firearm!

If the illegal's get their way they will be able to use the Kali. drivers licenses to more easily buy firearms illegally, very lucrative for the gun runners and gang bangers among them.
And of course it will only be the gun dealer who is at risk of prosecution if he is lied to, shown a valid Kali. license, and makes the sale!

I am fairly sure that this is probably the REAL reason Arnie is insisting on the mark that would differentiate citizen licenses from those given to invaders.

Personal note - I've been out of the loop; droning at the Dell computer factory in temp status can really take it out of you (I can hardly believe there was a time when a hardworking guy could hire on with a company and be assured of their loyalty and a good retirement). Good genes are kicking in and I'm leaving the illegals in the dust with stamina and intellect. (Thank you, God.)

Yep, there's illegal aliens working at Dell despite stringent filtering that I can't fault their hiring standards over, due to the rampant document fraud industry (a legal resident Honduran chick told me about the illegal's bragging about this). That really hacked me off because I had to provide my birth certificate despite having my driver's license and military DD-214 on hand at initial hiring. Dual standards, real and inadvertant.

Just wanted everyone on the Illegal Immigration/Border Issues List to know that you should post Gubamyster or Hijinx during the weekdays and myself during the weekends so those fellows can get some well-deserved time away. Lord knows how too much of this stuff can threaten anyone's sense of reality.

Lopez, who led a one-day state boycott in December over the same issue

A boycott that nobody noticed or cared about. By the way, "Nativo" Lopez was originally named "Larry" until he decided to become an Hispanic activist.

In Arizona you can register to vote over the web. You don't have to provide any proof of citizenship whatsoever. Just fill in a few blanks and hit "enter".

A couple of years back, one of our "acting" Arizona governors (the real one having been recalled) attended a citizenship ceremony in Phoenix. At the end of it, she gave a little speech about the importance of voting. A bunch of the brand new citizens assured her that they had been voting for years.

Fine. Let them all gather for protest and "boycott."

It will be a target rich environment to sweep them all up and flush them back over the border where they belong.

I'm a Hispanic and I'm not going to protest. I find the heading of this news story insulting and prejudice... liberals are such racsist... it makes me feel like liberals are pure dirt of the highest order... I really hate liberal scum.
