Folks,

The Democrats went a significant distance to ensure Bush could not lower expectations in the first debate, but like Reagan's in 1984, there is nothing they can do about it now.

Bush Does Not Have To Win The Next Two Debates. He need only improve. If he improves the Sunday morning pundits will be forced to say "The president was much improved and more on his game this time around. Kerry still seemed the better debater, but the president looked much better."

That phrase will do what needs doing. Bush has configured things now such that he need only improve. He need not win.

Bush Campaigns in Wisconsin Ahead of Second Debate

"President George W. Bush warms up for his second campaign debate in battleground Wisconsin, where he will get another chance to practice new charges that Democrat John Kerry is unfit to lead the nation.

His only public event today was an outdoor campaign rally at a park in Wausau, Wisconsin. From there, Bush heads to St Louis to spend the night ahead of tomorrow’s debate against Kerry at Washington University, where undecided voters will question both candidates. A third and final debate takes place next Wednesday in Arizona....."

This is a good sign. The President is taking more time to prepare.

Unfortunately the report delivered to Congress by Duelfer on WMDs in IRAQ is getting lots of coverage. Bet the rent Kerry will call the President on this Friday, Domestic debate or not. President Bush will need a very good answer and counterattack, whether the questions or comments come from Kerry or someone(possible shills) at the Townhall debate?

This Report comes on top of Paul Bremer’s remarks on Iraq about the number of troops needed in Iraq and Donald Rumsfeld's gaff about the connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda and all of it will be landing on the President friday evening and everything depends on how well he handles it.

The President faces the additional complication of not knowing exactly who is going to ask the questions because of the format and will have to be ready, rested and prepared.

This is No Limit Texas Holdum and Bush is all in. He has to have the cards.
