Is this the same guy that was on Fox and Friends last week? If so he's a skerry lover and he did not seem to fond of Fox either.

I didn't see that but a few weeks ago he was going to disavow some of what he had published about Kerry.

Was hoping it was live, also taking calls, but might be interesting either way.

I guess I won't be watching SVU on USA tonight.

I'm thinking this may something new that Brian Lamb is trying out now that he has ended the Booknotes series.

This puppy is a historian? He just referred to My Lai...pronounced it "my" like the possessive pronoun. And the battle of "caisson." LOL. Interviewer asks how old were you in 1968? "I was seven..."

Now he's trashing the swift vets and saying the attacks on Kerry actually helped him, got him sympathy. Says Kerry is now up in the polls and his record in Vietnam is sterling.

Wow, Brinkley is so full of Kool-Aid, it's a wonder his skin isn't purple.

Mark my words, this invective against the Swifties is a desperate attempt to shore up the "they've been completely discredited" talking point before the Swifties drop the bomb in their upcoming ad! Wow, whatever is coming must be BIG.

When they first got a lot of publicity in August, it seemed like Brinkley was backing off his Kerry-is-a-great-American-Hero paradigm somewhat. Tonight's interview makes it clear he's decided to go down with the Kerry ship. Sole purpose of the interview seems to be to call the Swifties a bunch of "bitter men who hate and resent John." [paraphrased, but the gist is accurate.]

Wow, this is ugly, ugly stuff. A small man who may be fluent in the mechanics of historical research (diaries, interviews, etc.) but seems utterly oblivious to the devastating and blood-drenched impact Kerry had on at least two nations, and oblivious to the legitimacy of the Swiftie's outrage.

Brinkley said that the co-author of the Swift Boat's book was anit-Cathelic. Just wish he would have backed his statement up w/some facts.

Thanks for your analysis. I had been out during yard work all day and fell asleep before the program came on.

They are replaying now.

I agree, Brinkley is submerged in the tank for Kerry.

C-SPAN is following up the replay with John O'Neill's speech from about a month ago.

You listen to that maggot Brinkley, who by the way mentioned an article he published for Salon magazine, so you know where this guy is coming from, and then it is followed by John O'Neill, who, with the truth, just blows away everything that Douglas Brinkley just had to say. Hahahahaha.

Brinkley is a little snot with a high opinion of himself. He's probably horrified that his book was actually called on the carpet for false content, and thus is freaking out as to how this has reflected on him and his "scholarship" (I use that term loosely). Also, Brian Lamb asked him how it was that Brinkley's book was doing so poorly in number of sales as opposed to the SwiftVets' book "Unfit for Command". So now we know that Brinkley's book on Kerry ain't bringing in the bacon for Brinkley, comparatively speaking. I love it.

Brinkley is doing some serious back-filling in an attempt to save his own a$$.

Two other unrelated thoughts come out of this interview:

First, I believe it was Douglas Brinkley who organized some student history bus tours 12-15 years ago that gave Brian Lamb the idea for the C-SPAN School Buses.

Second, I'm now convinced we will see more of these types of shows from Lamb now that he is done with the Booknotes series. He said he was going to try some new formats.

Thank you for posting the heads-up, I probably would've missed it otherwise -- glad you caught the replay!

A lot of interesting info in this show, but the timing seems odd to me -- unless it's viewed as a pre-emptive strike on the Swiftie's next volley. Sort of a strange format for C-Span: similar to a BookTV In-Depth with an author, but was not a live call-in show; and it was taped earlier today and aired in prime time instead of being held for BookTV on the weekend. Why did this show air tonight specifically, I wonder? When does the new Swiftie ad come out?

I recorded it, and skimming through it again, I noticed Brinkley is very emphatic about only John Kerry can release his diaries. Claims Kerry possesses the actual diaries, Brinkley only has notes and very limited photocopies. Has this claim changed from earlier?

Brinkley's remarks about the Swifties ("a bunch of bitter ex-navy guys that are [to the] right of right, who just can't stand anything about John Kerry"), and especially about Jerry Corsi ("he's a known anti-Semite, a known bigot, a known anti-Catholic guy, he calls Katie Couric a communist, NBC News the Communist... he's a whack job."), are breathtakingly vicious. I'm sure it's just an insignificant coincidence that Brinkley reveals to Brian he's under contract to NBC, after all, he's an objective historian, an academic! Also compares Admiral Hoffman to Lt. Calley ("blood on his hands"). Like I said earlier, just wow.

Also claims Kerry has 40% or more of veterans?? Will get many more votes from veterans than Al Gore did in 2000??? (Well, that last one I might believe, since Algore went to such lengths to have military votes thrown out, LOL).

I have a headache after watching this smug little man be SO impressed with himself and dismiss legitimate questions with such dripping contempt. Not having read his book yet, I didn't have an opinion either way on Brinkley's part in this whole thing. But tonight Brinkley outed himself not just as one who's sampled the Kool-Aid, he's actively helping mix up the ingredients and serve up the pitchers to the unsuspecting.

I'm sure glad this thread caught your attention. You have incredible transcribing and analytical skills. Did you go to the same school as YaYa123?

I'm guessing that the program was recorded earlier in the day because either Lamb or Brinkley had something else to do in the evening when they wanted to air it - - - or, - - - - Brinkley wanted to be able to stop the interview in the event things got too sticky. He appears very nervous to me.

Two things about C-SPAN: This weekend's BookTV schedule has not been finalized and the interview should - emphasize 'should' - show up for RealPlayer on their front page. I'm glad you recorded it. I'll ping this thread if I see the program on the schedule or available for RealPlayer viewing. In the meantime, I direct everyone's attention to post #15 above.

When he went into attack mode on anyone associated with John O'Neill (Including the coauthor), it was obvious that at least that segment had been rehearsed by Brinkley.

He's such an idiot.

He came right out and stated his publishers forced the book out early because Kerry may have lost the primaries.

I don't see how he can hold to complete truth under those circumstances. I wonder if he was so willing to change the next edition to correct the mistakes Hoffman pointed out due to fear of legal issues or if he actually has a shred of integrity.

Still nothing available for RealPlayer on C-SPAN. If it doesn't show up by this afternoon I'll believe Brinkley put conditions on his appearance with Lamb. I'll check back.
