Me too. I'm thinking it might go down as one of the big gaffes of Presidential debates period.

I just posted these on another thread, but I'll post them here:

Here is the letter I wrote to the Raleigh News & Observer (Edwards' mouthpiece) when Edwards said it to Cheney's face -- and the responses I got back!!! (Think they've got an agenda?)

Edwards' cheap shot

Regardless of who people might think won the vice presidential debate, the fact that John Edwards felt the need to drag Dick Cheney's daughter into the discussion of gay marriage was inexcusable and unconscionable.
It was one of the cheapest shots I have ever seen in a political campaign, all the more so in light of the fact that John and Elizabeth Edwards prefer that the media not question them about the death of their son, Wade, because they don't want to politicize it.

Apparently, discussing their son is something that they prefer not to do, but discussing the sexual orientation of Cheney's daughter is not out of bounds.

Respectful reference

The writer of an Oct. 8 People's Forum letter accused Sen. John Edwards of a "cheap shot" during the vice presidential debate. She said he dragged Dick Cheney's gay daughter into the discussion of gay marriage rights.

Three points need to be made. First, Cheney had just been asked a question about that, and in his answer reiterated that personal relationships are no one else's business, and that states should decide.

That is in contrast to the president, who, despite avowing that he wants government to get off people's backs, nevertheless wants to enshrine the removal of rights for gays in our Constitution.

Second, Cheney has spoken out about his daughter before, and while he doesn't wave it around he doesn't hide from it either. The writer acts as if he should be ashamed; he clearly feels differently about that.

Finally, how did Edwards "drag" this into the discussion? I quote: "I think the vice president and his wife love their daughter. I think they love her very much. And you can't have anything but respect for the fact that they're willing to talk about the fact that they have a gay daughter, the fact that they embrace her. It's a wonderful thing." That hardly qualifies as a "cheap shot."

No comparison

The Oct. 8 People's Forum letter captioned "Edwards' cheap shot," shows how logic has completely left many voters during this campaign.

The writer states: "Apparently, discussing their son is something that they [John and Elizabeth Edwards] prefer not to do, but discussing the sexual orientation of Cheney's daughter is not out of bounds."

The two are so logically far apart that it is shameful anyone would compare them.

The loss of a child is tragic. Where is the tragedy in having a happy, loving, homosexual child? There is none!

It is George W. Bush who has politicized his running mate's daughter. To miss that point is to live in a world where logic is absent.

I am starting to think this is going to be seen as the big gaffe of the debates.

Edwards got a cold reception for his remarks at the VP debate with CPCheney thaning him for the kind words about his family, but Kerry didn't learn a thing from the negative impact..two strikes on the same pitch..

Did anyone notice how Bush wisely left it alone?

Good for him!

"Howard Fineman on MSNBC says in the press room there was an audible gasp from the reporters when Kerry mentioned Cheney's daughter."

Edwards did it too.

I think Kerry hung himself out to dry on the abortion and queer marriage issues, and added the topper with illegals. Bush whupped Kerry's little girlie butt tonight. He will have to get into Tereza's stash tonight.

Kerry thinks we're all homophobic bigots that would tie a homosexual to the back of a truck.

Mary Cheney is a human being. You can disagree with the behavior and show her show and compassion.

How DARE that slime drag her into this to score some point. Guess what Senator? It's not Bush and Cheney we have a problem with, it's YOU!

Lynne V. Cheney, wife of Vice President Cheney, accused John F. Kerry Wednesday night of "a cheap and tawdry political trick" and said he "is not a good man" after he brought up their daughter's homosexuality at the final presidential debate......Then Kerry said, "If you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that she's being who she was, she's being who she was born as.".....

Steven Fisher, communications director of the Human Rights Campaign [i.e., the "Human Rightser" Campaign"] the nation's largest gay and lesbian political organization, said Kerry "was speaking to millions of American families who, like the Cheneys, have gay friends and family members."

Anyone who spreads the PHONEY "gay" and "human rightser" ideology that "they're born that way" is most certainly unfit to be President!!!! They are major league underminers of the basic structures of society, and are also attempting to brand the very large numbers of orthodox Christian Americans as "bigots" and "homophobes". How then can they possibly lead our nation, except into the SEWER?

"Cheney should give a pointed, yet very somber, speech.."

I would really like to see Kerry called out on this one. Both he and Edwards have both used Cheney's daughter as a prop--when they could have grabbed any number of well-known, outspoken genuine celebrities as an example of gay pride. Mary Cheney is NOT a public figure---she is the Vice President's daughter and has not been speaking on behalf of Bush/Cheney (unless I'm wrong). Clark and Cahill's defense of Kerry is indefensible!

It shouldn't surprise you, the Clinton scumbags who are running Kerry's "campaign" now are probably high-fiving each other that he said it. Remember who invented the politics of personal destruction.

I did see on another thread that Mary Beth Cahill looked pretty pained when asked about it in the spin room. I believe they know Kerry screwed the pooch on that one.

Kerry probably thought this fit his cheap political opportunist agenda. I hope it backfires on him big time.

I hope Lynne Cheney cleans his clock. And if I don't miss my guess, she will. This is as it should be.

Joe Scarborough just made an excellent point. He said he wrote down Vanessa Kerry's comments and she said that the gay marriage "issue is a very important issue and a very personal issue." Scarborough then stated the fact that they recognize it as a very personal issue makes outing Cheney's daughter all the more low and repulsive.
