Can anybody help me uderstand the thinking of pro-choicers? (vanity)

Posted on 10/15/2004 5:33:37 PM PDT by RogueIsland

This is a serious question. I am posting it because I have come to the conclusion that I quite literally do not have the neural wiring to even conceive of the pro-choice point of view and I need it explained to me. I know many intelligent, otherwise decent people who are passionate about the "right" to abortion. Some of them will even concede that the fetus is a human being and they still favor abortion-on-demand.

I simply can't grasp this. Not all of these people are simply selfish. Some of them seem deeply committed to this on a philosophical level and even a Constitutional level (although the ludicrous Roe aside, how the Constitution can be construed in this fashion is simply beyond me -- at best all you can say is it is silent on the subject of anything but state-sponsored execution).

So what's the deal here? What "nuance" am I missing that these seemingly intelligent people appear to grasp? I can usually at least intellectually understand those I disagree with on political issues -- this one utterly eludes me however.

I have to disagree and I have yet to understand this. I am a Catholic and was dating a Jewish girl for about two years. Her family was all democrats and the ONLY reason that they would vote for a democrat for president was because "if a republican gets elected, he'll try to overturn roe v. wade" That was their only arguement as to why to vote for the democrat.

My take on the issue is that roe v. wade will NEVER be overturned... it just won't happen. not that i wouldn't want it to be but i just don't think at this point it ever could be. If the only reason that most jewish folks (and I'm not stereotyping, it's just the way it is) vote democrat is the social issues, mainly abortion, why don't we as a party explain more that even though we may not agree with it roe v. wade won't be overturned? I don't get it, people are scared shitless that it will be changed and when we are really honest with ourselves we know it won't so why not say it?

Pro Choice = Murder on demand; allowing a quick and deadly option for a embarasing social dilemma in someone's lifestyle that cramps their style but ends up in the killing of the innocent un-born human who has no choice but to die! Welcome to the "Brave New World" and your fast track to HELL!

This mystifies me. I believe what you say is true, I just don't understand it.

Pro-choice is about freedom, something anathema to the far right religious control freaks that infest this board.

The mother who can justify that in her own mind with her rights to abort

The mother loses her "rights" to her own body immediately after "her own body" is no longer entirely her own.

My gosh you are a big bag of demagogic wind. No body is good enough to debate you because you cut and dodge and dismiss out of hand EVERY argument anyone has made. And yes Susan, I've read the entire thread.

Oh that's right, your mommy was a nurse and her anecdotal evidence supersedes all.

I've rarely debated someone as dense as you. As you're completely misunderstanding my argument after the third time I've explained it, I'm moving you into the "too dense to debate" aisle....Sorry.

I'm not surprised you don't see your error, your entire foundation is based on it. You have decided that something you believe is wrong is not wrong. Its quite simple but your personal defense mechanism won't allow you to see it. If it did you would see how your posistion is based on a contradiction.

Most likely, some are people who themselves have resented being born from day one, and hated every second in this mortal realm.

Others are ignorant of just how human their babies already look when they are being aborted and others don't care.

Others are in real financial trouble and can't see how they can afford the expensive needs of a new life, and sure don't want tax payers picking up the tab.

Others are totally into self and will have a designer baby when they have met their own goals.

And for Democrat politicians it is covert racism, patting blacks on the back for their votes, while knowing full well that the largest percentage of abortions are, or have been performed on black women.

There are many reasons as excuses to salve the conscience, but it's still murder.

"Pro-choice is about freedom..."

Can you hear yourself? There is no freedom to murder another human being, an innocent one at that.

Again if you trust the UN with their population control agenda, what is there to say. Javalina use your own mind. If a country has made abortion illegal and women who have them do it in secret just how is someone going to come up with the number that are suppose to be taking place? That number could not be trusted to accurate. They extrapolate from the number of women who end up in hospital with a problem. That is an extrapolation without merit. If you read what they have to say they themselves will admit that there is no way to know.
Once again, If you do not make abortion illegal it creates a culture of death. In the end many more will die and be hurt then if you take the hard line and make it illegal. Another very good question in the argument is whether these countries that already have abortion as illegal prosecute offenders or mainly look the other way. This is an important question if you are going to use them to promote your claim that making abortion illegal will not have an affect on vastly diminishing abortion. We need a law against it and we need to vigorously prosecute it. Actually it's called tough love. One must make a clear and distinct stand against the horrific practice of killing babies or how shall the people know?

Egg + Spermatozoa = zygote Egg cannot become human being any more than skin cell. Same for sperm cell. The zygote has a compliment of 23 pairs of chromosomes and is therefore a human being that begins to grow. But then so does a 6 month old child grow. You have a right to your opinion, but not your facts. Get them straight.

My facts are straight. Nothing you've posted here is unknown to me, nor does it contradict what I've written. You might want to work on your reading comprehension. And check my profile page before your next presume to teach me elementary biology.

The purpose of pro-choice people is to live life like a mink devoid of any pretense of Biblical morals. If you get pregnant, you kill the baby and go on with your life. The pro-choice cover makes you feel good and helps to lessen the guilt of murder.
