My condolences on your troubles with creepy neighbors. Let me share a story with you too. This happened in New Haven, CT. I went to a drive-through Dunkin Donuts for coffee, and at the delivery window was a headscarved ME woman who handed it to me without a word. I struggled with the thought that caffeine withdrawal might be better than drinking from the cup she gave me. In the end, I acted like a typical American. I drank the coffee.
Besides the visible (and audible) presence of a group that hates us, there's the unfortunate other part of the equation; the trusting, unhardened American.

Did anyone else notice the pronunciation of the word "tyranny"? It was strange to hear the first Y in the word pronounced in the long-vowel fashion "tie-runny" instead of like a long E "tear-runny". Maybe insignificant, but odd.
